Could use some help. My N5 is making a strange notification sounds in Facebook Messenger. I can only describe it as similar to when you lose in Pac-Man. I have app sounds disabled in Facebook Messenger and my default notification sound is Hangouts Messenger. Any ideas? It's really weird.

My Nexus 5 arrived but the vibration motor feels a bit weird :(

I'm debating whether I have the time/patience to get a replacement. I called up Google and they're gonna send me an email of stuff to troubleshoot but I highly doubt it'll do anything since it's probably a hardware issue but they insisted. I guess I can't get a replacement until I try their BS troubleshooting steps.

The vibration is weak in the N5 so if that is what is weird, thats actually normal.

No it feels different than the one I used in store and my friends as well. It could be in my head though so I'm gonna go to a store and check tomorrow.

Edit: anyone know the name of the app that let's you replace the Google Now swipe up gesture with something to turn off the screen?

Figured out the answer to my question. Want to share if anyone can chime in because it was a curious case. I tapped 'Notifcations' within the Facebook Messenger app. Under 'Ringtone' it simply listed the following numbers: 2131032147. When I tapped 'Ringtone' this list of numbers was not an option. I have no idea how this came to be. The sound itself was utterly bizarre. An arcade game-like sound when your character loses. I've now changed my ringtone for this app of course. If anyone knows anything about this I'm curious to hear. Thanks.

Screen off and Lock allows you to do this.

If you are rooted you could install xposed with Gravitybox and double tap status bar to turn off the screen.

I am having a problem with my Nexus 5. Randomly, about once or twice a day, it will just randomly freeze. Although it only freezes when the screen is off. And it seems to be semi-permanent. I can't turn the phone back on or anything just with the power button. I have to reboot my phone completely because it just locks up.

The reason I said semi-permanent is because there is one way kind of around rebooting the device. If when locked I get a notification, say a text message (which is the only thing I have tested so far), the second my phone gets the text it will go straight to the boot animation as if it forced restarted. The weird thing is it only stays on the boot animation for no more than 10 seconds before it is at the lock screen. Normally a full boot takes like nearly a minute, but when this happens its only like 10 seconds max. Its so weird and extremely frustrating. Battery life is already atrocious, this issue just makes me dislike this phone even more.

Anybody else have/had this problem?

Any of you see this sudden battery life improvement as well? I just switched kernels so my battery life has become amazing lol

No my battery life is awful. Today with my phone being unplugged for 5 hours, I was down to 40% with barely over an hour SOT. I had to recharge to 100% in the middle of the day and now after 8 hours off the charger I am at 17% and 45 minutes SOT.

Battery life has always been this bad for me. Even when I ran cyanogenmod. Then I switched to stock with xposed. Then I switched to stock without xposed. Battery life just sucks on this phone.

I've found battery life to be ok overall. A little disappointing sometimes but then I do have pretty heavy usage.

At the moment I have a wireless charger on my desk at work so my phone is charging all day. 100% when I leave work, 90% when I get home and then depletes slowly until I charge over night.

I've not had any performance issues at all. Recently deleted a load of games that I never play since I got my G Pad and it's running much quicker. Got 5GB of free space rather than 1GB and it seems to make a difference.

Big fan. Best phone I've ever had.

I used to have battery problems as well, but after switching to Franco kernel and Lux auto brightness it's much better now.

I've been using Franco for months now and battery still sucks. GSAM battery has been installed since December and says that my average SOT over 20 hours or so off charger is 2.5 hours.

Based on the price I decided to try a nexus 5 out. Unfortunately I found any signal of 100db or above and it tended to drop the signal entirely. The replacement Google sent did the same. Where I am at is not as bad as San Francisco, but is hilly enough that low signal is a given in my area. Other than that (and the speaker) a great phone for the price. Unfortunately due to that though they are on the way back.

Has anybody here used both a Nexus 5 and Moto X? Any thoughts? I love my Nexus 5 but I wish it were just a touch smaller.

I had the Moto X but I'm shipping it back as I've re-ordered my 32GB Nexus 5. As much as I heard that the Moto X had as good if not better battery life than the Nexus, my experience was the opposite. I was getting like 30%-40% more battery life with the Nexus. In addition.. that drop down in screen size was significant for me...

I think the Nexus is a near perfect size...

I had a Moto X and traded it for a Nexus 5, which I then sold after I bought my M8.

The Nexus 5 to me was better, its faster, had a sharper better looking screen IMO, and a much better camera. I also liked the screen size more.

That being said, the Moto X was more comfortable to hold and use, the battery life was slightly better, and reception and phone call quality was MUCH better. And always listing and Moto Assist were great features.

Really a toss up between those two, if you want better hardware and better performance, stick with the Nexus. If you want a better phone for phone calls, and a really nice expierence from features and comfortable hardware get the Moto X. Or maybe at this point you should wait for the Moto X+1.

If it says anything, since I got my M8 I have not missed my Nexus at all, while I still at times miss some of the features I had on my Moto X.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
What the hell? Seriously, there are times where Google feels like the new Microsoft.

No not really. Google's aim for the Nexus line was to simply introduce more people to Android, use the devices as a showcase for it and to do this they gave the devices great specs and amazing prices.
It also wanted to show the manufacturer's how to do it right. And now you can get Google Play editions of some high end devices, then they don't see the need for Nexus anymore plus it has achieved it's goal of raising Androids profile.

I believe the new range of Google devices set to replace the Nexus line will be packed with cutting edge tech and aimed squarely at the high end of the market, so iPads and iPhones. But I would think they will be priced to match too.

I have an upgrade available and plan on using it. I could always sell that phone and buy a phone from the Silver program.

I wonder what the pricing will be for the silver line? I wonder r if LG or Motto will make them?

Probably LG. I read an article on this a month ago, or so it seems that long and it said LG is likely to be the maker.
Gotta say i never really like LG before as a phone maker but they have stepped up their game considerably.
