Man you have a crap ton of phones don't you? I have seen you on the S5 thread, the HTC One M8, and now the nexus 5. That is awesome.

LOL....its an addiction. I returned the M8 after a week. I will be keeping the S5 and N5. I will be selling my Lumia 1520 too...
The camera is not bad on the N5.

No it's not. I have it and the iPhone 5s. The iPhone is my daily driver, and the N5 is the backup. The iPhone still have the best camera.

It is much improved over time and the latest update with Google Camera made it even better. Much faster than it was when it came out and it takes pretty good pictures. Not the best camera going but its far from bad like some phones have been.

Looks like 4.4.3 is held up a bit. I hope it is out soon since it is supposed to have more camera fixes.

Seems we have a US counterpart to MRU...;)

Though if my scorekeeping is correct, you'll need to hold onto that Lumia 1520 if you want to keep up. :D

Actually, now that I think about it, you both pale in comparison to soulreaver99 and Lloydbm41.

Slackers....;):D

More still life shots. The issue with the camera has never been quality of shots of still objects, it's speed and ability to focus on people who aren't staying completely still.

I want my camera to perform out the box, not six months later. The slow focus and shutter of the GS4 was another reason I dumped it. I've owned 3 different iPhones and none had these camera issues.

Camera focus, Speed and clarity was one of the first things I tested with the S5 to make sure it wasn't a problem.

OK, well now it performs well out of the box if you buy one. It took good pics before, it was just a little slow.

I checked out a GS5 today. Nice phone but LOADED with bloat crapware. Id have to get rid of it instead of just turning it off. Since im w/ TMo, id root and delete.
I do miss things about my GS3 which draws me to the GS5. I miss the home button for one but my Nexus 5 screen is just as good with no slight blue tint. I put the demo in ART and it made it faster opening things up.

On another note....TMo has the Nokia 925 Windows phone. Not the TOL Windows phone but i really liked it and i can buy a brand new one outright for $199 on eBay.

You're in a great position....the TMO version has an unlockable bootloader. So you can flash all the roms you want........ You can get ASOP or just a stock rom with all the bloatware removed....

Or i can just use Titanium backup and remove the bloat without flashing and then return the phone back from root. Or, Cyanogen may have a ROM :)

yep...that will work....but to flash any ASOP rom...Cyanogen included......you will need to unlock the bootloader. Then flash the rom because ASOP roms take a new kernel. To flash a new kernel you need access to the bootloader.

I traded in my 5s for an N5. As someone who's been on android forever and then iOS for the last six months, I think I can make a few decent observations.

1) This is not a high-end device. It's very good, with a great screen, snappy and responsive, but it's a sub-$400 device. The camera isn't on the level of the 5s/S5/M8, the audio out isn't anything to write home about, no expandable storage, etc.

2) I honestly think the N5 has my favorite physical design of any device period. I know that's bizarre, but hear me out. Most of the other flagships feel luxury, when you hold them you kind of marvel at how well made they are. This is especially true of the 5s and M8, both of which are downright marvelous. The N5 is just invisible. Your experience with it has nothing to do with the device itself. The subtle black matte body makes you forget about the phone itself and puts all focus on the screen. I like it.

3) I forgot how much I love vanilla Android. Rooted, unlocked, Purity ROM for some tweaks, and I'm a happy guy. For all the qualms in #1, that doesn't change that I purchased this instead of the other, more expensive devices, and I'm happy I did. The N5 is a device that tries its damnedest to get out of your way and just let you use Android. It's the Google equivalent of an iPhone: no bloat, no mess, just you and what you wanna do.

4) It's just a solid device. For someone who's not using his phone as a primary or even secondary device, it's awesome.

It's unbelievable that this phone is $350. I absolutely love mine.

I think where they saved money was in the muted and plain design and the complete lack of bells and whistles. It's basically a $500 phone stripped down to its essentials and I love it for it.

I think the N5 camera is better than the M8 from the pics I've seen here from the M8.

Theres no expandable storage on three of the four mentioned there. I do agree the audio out from the speaker is weak though on the N5. Miss the louder speaker on my GS3.

Totally agree. I love that it's understated, simple, sleek--how the front is just a slab of near blackness, almost monolithic, unbroken by irregularities like logos, buttons, or speakers. And while the rear panel is plastic, I really like the simple matte look, nearly soft texture and the sunken 'NEXUS' whose glossy finish briefly shines when it catches some light. Best part--no carrier logos to be found or secondary branding (i.e. the beatsaudio that ruined the back my HTC One (M7)).

I've been trying to come up with an excuse to pick one up but just can't find a reasonable use for it. :(

I admit my big motivation was that by purchasing it and hopping over to TMo I have a fully paid-off device and no 2-year contract. I am 100% independent in terms of my cellular presence. That wasn't really in the cards with a $600+ device.

I'm happy I did it, though. I absolutely HATE Sense and Touchwiz, and going back to pure stock android just feels awesome.

EDIT: I'd also like to take back what I said about the camera. This was in a room with ALL THE LIGHTS OFF (click for big version):

I'm right there with ya--though I admittedly don't mind Sense. I absolutely refuse to buy any more carrier branded devices--cannot tolerate all of the carrier bloatware, don't want to see their logos all over my device, and in the case of Android, have zero patience waiting on their update schedules.

So as it stands now, it's either an iPhone, Nexus, GPE, or possibly developer/unlocked editions for me.
