Nexus 5

I just got the Nexus 5, but I have the weak vibration issue that some people have posted about here. I don't even hear the notification buzz when the phone is sitting on my desk in front of me.

Is it worth trying to RMA it, or is the problem very widespread and I'll probably just get the same problem in a replacement unit? Two of my colleagues at work have this problem with the N5 while two friends don't.

If you got it from Google Play, I would go ahead and request a replacement unit. It's a pretty painless process so it doesn't hurt to try.

I think they are all the same. Its just a little motor attached to the back of the cover. I think some just tolerate it better. The vibration on my GS3 would make me flinch when it rumbled on my desk, lol. I had to put something underneath it so compared to that, my N5 is very weak.

Oh and i got the 4.4.3 update today. The camera got a update but havent messed with it a bunch. This is what came up when i opened the camera app

Seems to focus a little faster. Here is the only pic ive taken with it but it wont show much. Just a typical pretty decent pic that i always get though there wasnt a whole lot of light in the room i took it in.

Thanks for reassuring me about the vibration. I guess I will try to get used to it. I had the S3 once as well and that one was always hammering away on my desk during notifications LOL, which amused my co-workers.

I took a few low light pics in my room last night after the new update. Didn't notice much difference in speed or quality.. iPhone 5s is still better in both regards but that's not to say the N5 is bad.. It is still takes decent low light pictures.

I have a Nexus 5, ordered it when it came out, and camera quality has always seemed sub-par to me. Even compared to iPhone 5s's and 5's that I've used in the past. In some cases I held an iPhone in one hand and the Nexus in the other and the pictures from the iPhone in almost every case indoors looked noticeably better. The picture posted earlier showing an Intuos Pro is about what you can expect from a Nexus 5 indoors. It is just not a good camera.

I can't argue with any of this. My wife's iPhone 5 gets most of the picture love. The Nexus camera just isn't very good.

Vibration is fine on mine, if you can barely hear it I would send it back for a replacement.

Was testing it again on my desk this morning, and then I realized my gmail push notifications were delayed by about 4-5 minutes. Once they did come, I didn't hear any vibration (just the LED lit up) because it is so weak.

On my iPhone (and PC) they showed up instantly and the vibration was just right.

Forgot to mention - I tested the camera as well the other day. Indoors, my kids and the room had an ugly orangish hue in the evening conditions, but this can be fixed later with software. On the iPhone 5s the skin tones were near perfect.

Ugh, the price of the phone was just right but I think this phone is going back due to the notification issues I'm having. Very disappointed.

After seeing iOS 8 I am most likely getting the iPhone 6. In addition to a subpar camera, the Nexus 5 also has very hit or miss battery life.

These screenshots are with bluetooth off, NFC off, GPS off, location history off, and location reporting off. And I have been in good cell reception almost all day with the exception of the last 30 minutes or so. And I have been on a solid wifi network all day so LTE hasn't been eating battery. Also, brightness was at 30%.

Normally I will get 2.5 hours SOT with the exact same usage actually. But about once every so often battery life will just suck. The Nexus 5 just does not have good battery life consistency. And this is my third Nexus 5.

I get around 4-5hrs SOT per charge for my N5 and good camera.
That's with wifi on, BT on, NFC on, GPS on battery saving, location history and reporting on.

Not sure what happened to your N5.

I've downloaded every battery stat app there is and it isn't some rogue app. I also have Franco kernel installed. It's just the phone. Look at every other 5 inch flagship with a 1080p screen. They are all closer to 3000 mah. Plus with the price google tried to hit with this phone, it's no surprise that some things are so inconsistent due to likely cuts to make manufacturing cheaper.

I should have done a lot of research before getting the Nexus 5 :( Just couldn't wait for the Oneplus one. Well it has to be better than my iPhone 5 with 1400 battery

The weak vibration motor + weak speaker + audio bug when recording videos + just decent camera + poor battery life where the reasons I returned my Nexus 5 last year and went back to my SGS3.

The SGS3 has better speaker, better vibration (I couldn't feel the Nexus 5 in my pocket and lost many calls), better camera (really really great camera), no audio problem when recording videos, stronger Wi-Fi signal and better battery life (I get 3 hours SOT on 24 hours usually but yesterday I managed to achieve 4 hours SOT with Boeffla kernel).

It's funny that Google can't get their Nexus phones right (based purely on people's complaints).

Maybe this whole revamp with the Android Silver program is a good idea...

Yea I dont know what to say, that there is some shocking battery stats.
I don't have an N5, but I have no complaints on the more power hungry snapdragon 600 w/ believe 2600mah?
wild that your experience could be that much inferior w/ 300mah less and a better chip

Hate to break it to you, but it's not better.

Google has gotten the Nexus 5 right, IMHO. A lot of people expect a $350 phone to be the same level of a $600+ phone.

For $350, Google didn't just get the Nexus right, they arguably built the best phone on the market for the price.

Fair point. You can't give a complete picture of Nexus 5 without mentioning the incredible price point.

My Nexus 5 was great. Loved that phone. Stock Android is blazing fast and the animations are gorgeous. No other phone (besides iPhone) matches the Nexus 5 in terms of fluidity.

However, the battery life is what ruined it for me. A 2300 mah battery in a 5 inch screen phone? Unacceptable. I didn't even use the phone that much and I basically had to charge it twice a day.

Excellent phone ruined by the super subpar battery. :(

I've since switched to a Note3. Beautiful large screen with great battery. But ugly clunky Touchwiz.

It's a tradeoff I guess.

Haven't experienced a lot of these problems people seem to be having with their Nexus. Still using my original launch day phone, everything stock and its still as smooth as day one.

So far nothing released this year has impressed me enough to make me consider upgrading.

I have a second batch N5 and i dont have any of those issues either.

The Nova launcher makes it nicer as well. I dont care much for the Google launcher. Nova has the "OK Google" voice command and when you download themes, whatever wallpapers you use, you can interchange icons from other themes.
Im finally starting to like Hangouts with its latest update and having more people in it.

This post right here.

I'm also most likely getting the iPhone 6 and going back to the iPhone after a 2 year fling with Android.

The battery on the Nexus 5 has been very subpar for me lately too.

But the Nexus 5 is a great phone outside of the battery. Great Android experience - not sure I'd have it any other way.
