Well.

You still can't change the fact that a 2300 mah battery on a 5 inch display is ridiculously small.

I used my Nexus 5 the same way I did with my Note 3.

Always on LTE (no wifi).

I would get 2.5-3 hours of screen time on my Nexus 5 on a day's usage.
I would get 5-5.5 hours of screen time on my Note 3 on a day's usage.

So that 900 mah difference does make a huge difference. Something the Nexus 5 should have addressed.

My HTC One M8 running a GPE has excellent battery life somehow. It's a 5" screen, and only a 2600mAh battery.

Right now I am at 25h 53m total with 5h 35m Screen On time. And battery now at 14% left.

I'm not sure what caused this, but it kept restarting once I decided to turn off my phone. Only thing that I did was install twitter and change the notification to do not disturb. It seems fine now after I deleted Twitter and turned off the do not disturb mode. Fixed issue it was light flow app.

Hello everyone!

I'm considering buying a Nexus 5. I have a couple questions.

- It's been almost a year. Is this still a good phone, up to date? How well is it holding up?
- I'm currently an iPhone 5 user. My only concern is battery life. How is Nexus 5's battery life compared to iPhone 5's?

Thanks!

Well its been out 7-8 months. I got mine in early Nov and it had been out for about 3 weeks.
I dont have a iPhone to compare the battery too but if you use it heavy, the battery isnt that great. Im talking playing games a lot but during a normal work day it easily lasts all day.
4.4.4 was supposed to help a bit with the battery and when ti gets Android L that will help it as well.

As far as everything else, it is fast and runs smooth and i have no complaints other than the volume could be a little louder on the external speaker. Camera takes good pictures in light.

I put the google case on it and a screen protector. Honestly I can't complain, I've been critical of plastic phones claiming to be premium in the past, but the Nexus 5 is the best plastic phone I have seen.

Typical of an Apple user, battery life is important (as it should be). Compared to your iPhone 5, the Nexus will probably be a little better (especially if it's a launch iPhone 5). However, the battery is not likely as good as a new iPhone 5S. Unless you're some ridiculous power user, I would expect the phone to last a full day. Bring a charger if you stay overnight somewhere, though.

On Android L I'm at 54% been on from 8am-9pm and it's saying I have 15 hrs left. Played some games nothing too intense just casual games like candy crush. I'm not sure how accurate it is, this is my third day of using it and I charge overnight.

That would be fantastic battery life if i could get that.

I stopped by Frys today. My purpose was was to check out some stereo units that with big screens that are XM compatible to go in my truck to replace the stock one just to have it more modern like it is in our 2013 car as the truck is a 2007. No luck there but i also wanted to check out what they had for over the ear type headphones.

I wasnt looking for real good ones as my main reason for them was to plug into my guitar amp so it will have sound thru the headphones instead of going thru the amp so it wont be so noisey at certain times when i feel like messsing around. Needless to say i think the Monster headphones sound great for $149 but here is what i found for what i was looking for. They have a lot of them and i went down a different isle and they had a bunch of these headphones called AblePlanet.

Never heard of them and they were all reconditioned and priced at $19.99. Typed in the model number(NC350SCST) on my phone and saw they were currently $63 on Amazon and a few other places so i read reviews. Some not so good, some great. They came with the 1/4" adapter and some other two prong adater and a carrying case. They also have a mic built in w/ volume control and a pause button which also changes the song so i bought em. Nothing to lose but $20.

When i got home i tried them out and man, surprisingly decent. Really good in fact. While plugged into my phone w/ music on i texted my Wife to call me and they worked with my Nexus 5 w/ phone calls.

I was told somewhere in another thread that it was very hard to find headphones that works with Android phones and less that worked with Nexus so if anyone is looking for some over ear headphones that work with your phone.....that one does. I do think they have earbuds as well.

I know, long story just to tell you they will work with your Nexus 5. If anyone is interested, you can see them below.

Here they are at Amazon

Here they are at Frys. They are $19.99 there.

Not shown in those links is the carrying case. It is a zip up, contoured hard shell case that they fit in real nice.

Really looking forward to get my Nexus 5 to replace my 5s. No more small screen, big bezels/home button, bad grip, missing wireless charging, overprice, camera without bokeh, missing multitasking button.. Aaah. Cant wait.

Thanks for your reply. iPhone 5 is a phone with a very very very bad battery. Anything better than that, I can live with.

Got my Nexus 5 now. I am totally amazed that this phone is miles ahead of my over double priced iPhone 5s. It is super fast, light for its size and it feels so good in the hand. Everything seems faster. I really like the multitasking and back button. I do not think that I can be without them now. But so hard to leave I message and upcoming continuity. I thing I will though.

Yes thats true but you can use Hangouts and get others to join it. It works the same and has video chat like Facetime.

Make sure you are receiving MMS consistently on this phone. Mine likes to randomly pop in and out.

getting one of these this week, best rom?

I've recently been using SlimKat in order to try out ART (can't use it with the Xposed modules I was running on stock); battery life is great and stability is essentially what I was seeing on the stock ROM.

If you decide to use the stock ROM, I'd suggest also using Franco kernel. I ran this combo for a few months and battery life was pretty good -- idle drain was low compared to the stock kernel.

Hello people......

I just got an N5 last Tuesday. While I love the device, certain things kind of tick me off. While I've been using it for 6 days now, I'm debating sending it back and keeping my 5S or keeping it. Not being able to send gifs sucks as I send a lot. 25mb for gmail and 5mb for hotmail allowance to send files through email is blah. I know apple shrinks it for you but still. I like the phone a lot but I feel I have to find workarounds to what I'm use to doing. Not a bad thing but more of "if it's worth it" type of thing. iMessage is definitely a feature you get use to quick. Handouts is my workaround. While screen is great....certain angles give off that washed out appeal.

Love the wireless charging (can even charge with my case on  ) installed nils for notifications on the lock screen. Google now is amazing. Love it. Google music is awesome especially with full screen on lockscreen. I would have to chalk this up as too attached to the apple ecosystem and comfortable within it.

Yeah, I've been looking at SlimKat. It's just a stock look, right?

It looks just like stock ROM as it's AOSP-based, but comes with some extra functionality baked in. Doesn't come with any of the Google apps (including the Play store) so you'll have to flash a gapps package separately if you want them.
