The problem with the modern ecosystems is to switch is really expensive. I would love to try all Android stuff, but it's just so expensive to buy a couple of devices and Heaven forbid it's not for me, then I'm stuck because Apple devices are even more expensive to switch back.

That is why I love TMOs JoD. I can jump to different phone if i didn't like a certain phone. It would make it easier for people to try and Android phone then jump back to an iphone if they didn't like it.

Now with the Note a possible recalled dud and Google taking a new direction, this will be the phone of the year. I am super pumped.

People will still buy the Note and Samsung like hotcakes. Just like the iphone. Reviewers will love it. Yada...then reality kicks in.. You paid a grand for a locked down laggy mess with little to no support. Eventually people will learn. And the Google phone will just fly under the radar contining to be awesome.

Do we know when Google will unveil their new phones ?

At first, I heard earlier than last year. Now, I'm hearing later than last year.

Nobody really knows. Nougat is already rolling out and LG V20 will have it, too. It really seems Google is detaching the software from the Nexus branding, which they're going to drop anyway.

Many things up in the air. I'm very curious about the Google smartwatches, too. Should be an interesting announcement when it finally comes, if only to see the "new direction" Google is heading with their own phones.

There is so much up in the air right now. This is the problem with the whole Nexus\Google phones. They always come with too many compromises and uncertainty. Will the camera be any good...will the battery suck.....will it be fast......what is the build quality?
Then when will it be released? Why are other phone makers releasing phones with Nougat before Google? It's just a mess.

Ditto for the smartwatches. Would love to see more competition in that area. And I'd love to see the no-******** design cues of the Nexus line (especially the Nexus 5...) translated to a futuristic smartwatch with a rectangular screen - think a mix between the Apple Watch and the Gear Fit 2. Not sure if Google would have the balls to go against the round Android watch trend but who knows...

Anyway, the more smartwatches the merrier :D

And I'm also kind of pumped to see what phones they come out with. Hopefully they don't look like those atrocious renders from a few weeks ago...

I don't get your point? What is weird about the specs of a phone being up in the air until a phone is realesed? What compromises exactly are you expecting? No edge screen or waterproofing? Those really aren't standards. Camera is amazing on the 6p. Battery life is on par with other 810 phones. The 820/1 will be the same.

And why the confusion from anyone when it will be realesed? No reason to think it won't be like other years with announce mid September and shipping early october.

Other members here have given great reasons why Nougat was realesed prior to 7.1. It makes perfect sense really. Not sure what you find "a mess" exactly? Or just trying to divert from the bad week Samsung is having?

I so agree with you! Those renders from last week were horrible! I hope the new Nexus/Google phones don't look like that. It shouldn't be long now. I think late Sept or early Oct is usually when Google releases them.

I think at this point, those leaks are likely pretty accurate. My only hope is that the real thing looks better than the leaks, which is usually what happens. But even so, pretty uninspiring design anyway.

If uninspired means hundreds of dollars less, no gimmicks and no explosions, then call me an uninspired consumer and sign me up.

I would love to see Google take more control over the Google phone like the Pixel as was discussed earlier. Stop letting other OEMs make it for them.
Give me a Pixel phone with a 5.5 and display. Camera and screen equal to the S7...heck throw in a SD Card. That would be an awesome phone!

Didn't Google say they had more input this time around? I believe so.

It'll be a really interesting unveiling. A new direction for their smartphones, introducing smartwatches and some form of VR headset, and isn't the Google home thing launching very soon too?

With Nougat out of the way, looks like the focus could be hardware. Just hope it's not disappointing.

Let's also not forget the elephant in the room: HTC needs these handsets to do well, too.

I think HTC's future might be riding on the success of the Google phone to be honest here. They want the type of interest Huawei had with the 6P last year.
I would love a HTC Nexus phone if they just made it like the M10 as is just make it bigger.

I've always seen this as a life line to HTC. (HTC isn't helping themselves with the "upgrade" that they call the HTC A9s.)

Can't recall if this was previously revealed so thought I'd throw it in here (again?)

The end of Nexus: This year's Google phones to forge new path

Pixel anyone? What's everyone else's guesses?

Tigbitties, time to edit the title of this thread.

Twitter reporting the new phones are
Pixel and Pixel XL

Exclusive: Google's new phones will be called the Pixel and Pixel XL

Wow, I actually got something right for a change. What's the saying, 'even a blind squirrel eventually finds a nut'? :p
