Edit: Already posted. My bad.

I was not nearly as interested once I saw the projected cost. The new photos didn't do much for me.

Then, just now, on The Voice, a commercial begin. The music from Redbone's "Come and Get Your Love" played, sans vocals, over a horizontal rectangle shaped like a search box. It morphed into a vertical rectangle in the dimensions of a phone. "Oct 4" appeared.

God damn it, I'm excited again. Ashamed to be so, but I am.

Edit:
Haha, I love this song!

very excited for the 4th. these leaks look very promising. they honestly look better than the 6p/5x leaks, and those turned out to be amazing.
[doublepost=1474336930][/doublepost]
The leaks continue to disappoint.

as do most leaks. like the s7/s7 edge. turned out to be an awesome phone. these are for sure promising. the design looks fantastic even blurry and cropped.

this is one leak i am choosing not to trust right now. that would be the death of the spirit of nexus for sure.

Edit:

I'm not at all worried about any of the leaks. I'll let them be leaks and then I'll check out the official phones. I thought the 6P looked like bottled up hot garbage last year. Until I actually saw it. Then I thought it looked fantastic. Still think it looks pretty good. So I'm reserving judgment. I'm guessing I buy one. Because that's what I do. Even though I already ordered a 7 Plus.

Honestly it looks like a very cheap Chinese phone. Certainly not a $649 handset ... and if it's $649 - it likely means this will be €699-729 here.... :(

Yep, unfortunately it looks like the Pixels are going straight to the iPhone/Galaxy price category with fewer advantages :( At least for me for example waterproofing is much more useful and enticing than VR.

Well at least it looks like the smaller device is just that - the same but smaller. Much like regular and larger plus size iPhone.

It would actually be nice to have a smaller more manageable top of the line nexus, not everyone's ideal size is 5.7".

Still not a fan of this 40/60 glass metal design on the back, but stick a case or dbrand skin and I'd guess you would never know it was there. I wish they had just gone wholy metal or wholy glass. Rather than some weird mix.

After reading all the drama in my G+ feed this morning I wonder if they are just adding the Pixel line. The intent of the Nexus was to be a dev phone not a flagship and it really doesn't make sense for them to kill their dev phone. I can see them wanting to add a Pixel phone to go with the Pixel Chromebook and tablet to complete the eco system but not at the expense off alienating devs.

My thoughts and hopes

I don't think it will be the death of nexus, or pixel or whatever Google calls the lineup. Google sure as heck won't sell many of them, but the only way this makes sense is if they are looking at this as a reference design. As a way to spur the other oem's to better quality. I can't see Google caring about profits on hardware, they only care about volume and eyeballs.

Still, it's an odd strategy. Similar to Microsoft with the surface lineup, but I think the quality of windows tablets was far worse compared to the first surface than current android phones are compared to what we've seen so far of the pixel. In fact it seems the pixel is underpowered, underspecced and overpriced compared to what is in the market currently. So if they want to make a profit from hardware they won't because the phone won't sell in any significant quantity. If they want to spur the oem's to better quality they won't because everyone else is putting out some darn good stuff. It's just a lose-lose strategy.

This is going to be a big problem if the Pixel looks exactly like iPhone
I feel like apple has somehow laid claim to white fronted phones in public perception. I literally cannot think of a smartphone with a white front that hasn't been accused of being an iPhone clone. I personally like the white front but I think we should also wait to see what the other colors look like. I don't think they will look so similar.

Well the only thing people can claim it looks similar its because of the big chin lol other than that well theres not much you can do with the form factor.

Never been a fan of the white front, phones look back when the screen is off but its not like we use our phones turned off.

Well I have not been in this section of MR in a long time. Been enjoying iOS for awhile, but was interested to see what Google was up to knowing their phone would be coming out soon. I tried to catch up on all the rumors and renders of the phone, and funny you guys are hating on the rumored design, but from that last picture of the white one. I kind of like it. Looks pretty cool to me. With that said, I am loving my jet black iPhone 7 but the Pixel looks pretty freaking good to me. It won't bring me back to Android, but it does look good.

I don't see the Pixel phones being that successful. At the crazy high rumored starting price of $729 for the 32GB version, and with the rumored locked down version of Android 7.1 it will ship with. I will happily stick with the good old 6P

Google is said to be aiming at iPhone 7Plus pricing.

Just speculating.... but if the camera will be as good as they say (6P shows to have just as good low light performance against the iPhone 7 even at a year old. And the ads are already showing a focus on the camera for the Pixel). And we get goodies in 7.1 (likely unlimited photo storage a full resolution). And say we get the SD 821. And say we get faster memory. And say they really push this as a daydream device and throw in a VR headset. Or a discount at the start. The XL for $729 might turn out to be an OK price for me. I certainly would still want it over a carrier locked Samsung or boring iPhone.

Agreed however if it is just the same basic phone as the 6P for that price, no way. But I think Google has some surprises up their sleeves. They are really hyping this Oct 4th event.

It's rectangular, got rounded corners and has a touchscreen?

:)

That's what I was thinking :). But speaking of which, why doesn't this phone have those squared corners like the Pixel C did? That made it look very sleek. If it were up to me, I'd make it have the same general design of the Pixel C. Much more attractive that the rumoured design.

I really hope Google has some killer software features to justify the $649+ price tags.

I thought I saw someone mention that unlimited full resolution photo uploading to Google Photos is rumored to be included with the Pixel phones. That alone makes it a very attractive option for me since I want to keep my library in its native form and that would cost me $10/mo of Google Drive storage.
