Plus those horrible soft buttons take up space, effectively making the bezel larger.

Actually bezels are slightly less than the iphone:

Don't have any issue with them personally. There is hardly any side bezel.

SIDE RANT:
Even current generation Nexus devices don't get the update right away; they're also on a rolling schedule.

Ummm it is a nexus (er Pixel). It is a developer phone. You sideload it day one straight from googles servers. if you want to wait for the ota push, that is a choice. but the beauty of a non carrier branded, non-locked down phone is that you can make that choice.

Geez these guys are talking about voice powered assistant and VR, and Apple about removing the headphone jack... I'm seriously thinking of giving android a go...

There is a difference between talking about things and doing them. Heck, they talked about Allo around six months ago. Where is it?

I'm eager to buy and evaluate a Pixel XL first hand. My past experiences with each Nexus to date have been very enjoyable. None have been perfect but each has been unique with distinct improvements.

Especially my Nexus 5X and 6P.

A compact and convenient pocket size the 5X continues to satisfy. My daily driver is the 6P which is my absolute favorite smartphone to date. The spacious 5.7" display in the high quality aluminum body is just terrific. Speedy, smooth and very stable I'm never disappointed in this phone.

Now running Nougat, it's like a brand new model all over again. Like any other OS it has its pros and cons, yet that said I'm impressed it's as good as it is this early in its lifespan.

Thanks Google... :D

I am really anxious for the 5 inch version. I use a Moto X 2014 and am seriously considering iPhone 7 as I don't want to go much bigger. I have a 2015 Moto X but I don't use it because I don't like the size.

I am also considering the Axon 7, S7 and Honor 8, but there are things I don't like about each of them that has kept me from pulling the trigger.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but Android Authority reported that the smaller Pixel will have dual speakers at the bottom (probably why the bezel is so big?). The headphone jack will be on the top left corner.

Sounds like it could be an acceptable trade off.

My point still stands that talking and doing aren't the same. If we go by pure talk, we'd say Apple is working on AR right now.

Not sure what you mean by "pure talk"? Does Apple have a release date for AR right now?

When Google introduced Allo they said it would be available by end of Summer. So far they haven't broken that promise. So at this point, they are still "doing" what they said:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Allo

Allo is an instant messaging mobile app developed by Google. It was announced at Google I/O on May 18, 2016.[1] At the time, Google said that it would release Allo in summer 2016.[2] The app will be available on Android and iOS.[3]

Nougat is an absolute joy to use. Someone is staying with me who owns the 5x and I've been really playing with it.

Everything just feels so natural. The UI, the animations, the features... Everything feels buttoned up and fast.

The Pixel devices will truly have software down pat.

This just in: pricing of the smaller Pixel device to start at $649! Hell, the XL must starts at $749 or more!

WTF...who does Google think they are? Apple?

Source? If that's the case I won't be buying.

I was just coming over to post that [Source]. If true, the smaller Pixel will be $649/32GB, which means the XL is, as you said, likely $749-$799 for the 32GB, which means $799-$899 for the 128GB (depending on the markup for 128GB).

That's crazy high, and I'll be waiting on reviews from actual buyers before I get it. I'm sure it'll be stunning, especially the VR, but come on....

Honestly it looks like a very cheap Chinese phone. Certainly not a $649 handset ... and if it's $649 - it likely means this will be €699-729 here.... :(
I agree. Disappointed. Was expecting more from HTC and Google partnership.

The only Android phone that has tempted me thus far is the Axxon and V20.

I was going to get next year's Pixel phone, but if this is going to be Google's pricing going forward I'll just go back to the iPhone next year.

At least now I have an S7 and 6S to swap back and forth to decide what I like better. I still refuse to support the iPhone 7 no matter what, though.

Man I don't know what new phone to get to replace my S6. I need more storage and don't want another AMOLED display that can have burn-in later on, like on my S6.

These phones are looking disappointing, and they were my last hope.

I was not nearly as interested once I saw the projected cost. The new photos didn't do much for me.

Then, just now, on The Voice, a commercial began. The music from Redbone's "Come and Get Your Love" played, sans vocals, over a horizontal rectangle shaped like a search box. It morphed into a vertical rectangle in the dimensions of a phone. "Oct 4" appeared.

God damn it, I'm excited again. Ashamed to be so, but I am.
