What do you have to do to get companies to realize we want better battery life then thinner phones. I am tired of having to compromise battery life in getting a flagship. Make a fatter phone and we would all be much happier. Stop making them larger in overall package, and give us bigger batteries. This war to see who can fit the most into the thinnest phone has cost Samsung the Note 7, and it's cost us all battery life. We have said over and over battery life is more important.

Agree 1,000%

I have the Nexus 6P, and very happy with it, running a great 7.0 custom ROM, but even with all the tweaks, and kernel optimizations, and settings made battery friendly, I only get like 5h to 5.5h Screen On time. Which isn't bad, but not great. To me IMO, if I can get like a steady solid 7.5h to 8h Screen On time, now that's amazing, but very few phones offer that, except with like 4,000mAh sized batteries.

I if was building a new Nexus or Pixel phone, or heck the OnePlus Four, I'd make it a 5.5" screen, but for sure put in a 4,000mAh battery, and then have the smaller version, maybe a nice 4.8" screen, but put a good sized 3,200mAh battery in it.

Look at the Galaxy S7 Edge, it has a 3,600mAh battery, and is probably the best battery friendly Android phone this year, besides some more niche market phone with a large battery and lower res screen. But for a flagship, you need at least a 3,600mAh battery to get great battery life. I think the Pixel XL should have come in larger than 3,450mAh.

Agree! Even the iPhones suck at battery life. I don't care what people say the 7+ is nothing special. You can barely get through a day on it, and if you use it a lot it won't even get through a day.

Picking a smaller screen should not mean you have to sacrifice battery life. The standard for battery life these days is terrible.

I've been using my 7+ often today and just before going to bed have 75% battery left. I could easily make it through a second full day. This is usually the case.

Yeah. Every one brags about the Plus models. I have a 6s Plus. It is FANTASTIC if I don't use it. If I use it a decent amount, I'm charging in the evening to make it to bedtime. I'm a huge Cubs fan and have been on Twitter a lot during the games and texting with friends about the games and the battery gets eaten up like candy after Halloween.

I'm not worried about the battery life of the XL. Much more worried about the regular pixel's battery life.

Especially if I'm going to be losing wireless charging (no more topping off).

I'm not crazy about the Google photos app. I think TouchWiz's gallery app is much better and easier to use.

I'm kinda glad the Pixel XL was sold out when I went to order. It gave me a chance to look at the LG V20 and realize it's a much better phone for me. I like plain vanilla but the little touches like second screen, IR blaster, removable battery, knock on, customizable soft keys and LG skin is very light and uniformed across the device.
That's the wonderful thing about Android many choices.

Wow you picked the V20 over the Pixel? Ouch.

Not impressed at all with the camera on the Pixel. Now real photos are showing up. Also Image stabilization is bad on the pixel. It needs OIS. The iPhone has the best performance in this test.

Just curious, everyone running Android 7.0. Do you use battery helping apps like Greenify or Naptime ? Do those truly help extend battery life like they say, by a substantial margin ?
When I had a Nexus 6P, Greenify definitely helped. That was in Marshmallow though.

The video is said to be fake. Their is a reddit thread going on accusing the video of being fake. When asked to show the actual phone in the video the user refused. Now he said he will show the actual phone in an upcoming video. Depending on how soon that is he might just be waiting on delivery of his.

You would think he would atleast upload a pic of it to his twitter or instagram but nope.

Link us to that thread where they mention this is fake? Android Central is where I pulled it from in the Pixel forum where they even said it's real and not fake, and they admitted the iphone was better.

I hope so.

Really can't wait for reviews. Hoping the embargo is lifted this Thursday.

I might be willing to compromise on a few hardware features like wireless charging and waterproofing, but I refuse to compromise on the camera experience. After the s7 edge, there's no going back. And what kind of powerful camera might Samsung bring with the s8 upgrades, too?

The Pixel camera has to live up to the hype or else it's a deal breaker.

He also uploaded the Verizon promo video for the pixel and YouTubers are subbing and telling him great editing. His response is "thanks!" Lol

The Pixel and XL are a no go at their prices. Look at the 6p, it does go on sale occasionally but only for $50 off usually for the 32gb. The 64gb does drop more at times. Because to this day the 6p is still a great buy at its price and I think lots of folks are holding unto theirs as well instead of the Pixels at those prices.

The stabilization doesn't look anything like the other videos from Pixel I've seen so far. I wouldn't be surprised if they're fake.

My 7+ has phenomenal battery life, easily the best out of any larger phone I've used in the past couple of years. I use it a ton during the day and I always get home with at least 40-50%, some days even more. I'm pretty sure it would go 2 days, especially with how little battery it uses up when the screen is off.

I'd hate the iPhone+ to get thicker, that would really suck and probably put me off buying the next one. I just imaging carrying around a monstrosity like the HTC 10, bleh.

I forget that the Pixel is only 1080p. I can live with that if it means great battery life.

I'm a bit concerned about the camera hype now. We'll have to wait for official reviews and feedback to see...

The Pixel software seems to be a given. The launcher looks great and, in my opinion, proves that you don't need 3D Touch to achieve similar features. Double tap the App Switcher button brings you to the previous app; long pressing a home screen icon brings up the shortcuts; gesturing on the space-bar or backspace buttons with the new Google keyboard allows you to edit text easily. These methods are easier and simpler than 3D Touch, which literally adds another layer of required interaction. Everything else about the Pixel launcher looks pretty great, too, and on top of Nougat, it seems to me that it'll run circles around iOS 10.

The hardware story is a bit more different. There's no spinning it -- it should have had at least waterproofing, and I also believe they could've achieved wireless charging had they made the whole back panel glass instead of only 1/3 (leading to a polarizing and frankly awkward design). Likewise, what a missed opportunity working with HTC to include front fire dual speakers. Apparently, the large bezels are due to a powerful microphone system that is meant to pick up voice reliably for Google Assitant. That's fair, but really wish both Google and HTC could've put their minds together to also engineer dual speakers.

And now, more importantly, the camera hype. At these premium prices, the camera simply cannot be a compromise. They will get burned for not including OIS at these prices if the camera doesn't live up to the hype.

I'm starting to get the feeling that next years Pixel will be what this years should have been. For the price I just can't forgive some of the features missing that other phones at that price have.

100% this. That's what's further frustrating about this year's Pixel. You know next year's will have waterproofing and possibly wireless charging especially if Apple finally gets into that game.

So I'm not going to tell you what you need and don't need on your phone, but my take:

Water proofing and *especially* wireless charging are the two biggest non-factors I can think of. I can see water proofing as a really nice convenience. No need to worry about rain, spills, etc. Fine, but not a deal breaker. Wireless charging? Completely "neat" but in no way necessary feature. In fact, I fail to see how it's that much of a feature. It's still slower than wired charging (even Sammy's fast wireless version), and you can't use your phone comfortably while it's charging. Whoever comes up with near field charging will have implemented a version of charging your phone that is entirely useful. Wireless is just a reason to overspend on another charging implement.

While I personally share similar sentiments about waterproofing and wireless charging, to be fair to @epicrayban and his criticisms, I think it's more of an issue of once you have those features on your phone, it's hard to go back. He's been using a Galaxy S7 with both of those and the added convenience I'm sure has become something he would prefer not to abandon (I'd love to be able to just rinse my phone of). I can relate to his criticisms with a different feature---wifi calling and VoLTE. After having both on my iPhone 6S+ for the past year, I really noticed how much of an impact it had once I switched to a device that doesn't have it (Nexus 6P). Does my phone work without it? Sure, but the user experience is noticably different and it may actually be enough for me to not permanently adopt the Pixel XL I have on preorder as it also won't have that functionality on AT&T.
