I have not found the waterproofing that big of a feature for me. When Apple announced it for the iPhone 7, I was like great I really don't care. If I am taking near water, I put a waterproof case on it. I will still that because I will be at the beach, or somewhere that could scratch up the phone. This has still not become a must have for me. Maybe just a "it's cool to say I have it"?
Apple Devotees will brag about anything Apple has, claiming it as a "must have". Water resistance is the perfect example. Before Apple had it, they scoffed and said it was no big deal. Now, suddenly it's essential. They'll make an attempt to leverage anything no matter how small. I simply don't care about water resistance.

I do think Google could have included more features, but they are very new to the hardware game. It's a compromise like any other and as such I'll overlook the shortcomings because the big draw for my preferences is Google Assistant, the pure Android OS, and its tight integration with the exemplary Google Ecosystem.

After a terrific year with the outstanding Nexus 6P I'm very eager to take delivery of my direct from Google Pixel XL.

I like iPhone, but Apple adding waterproofing means nothing to me. Not really that is. I mean on cool if it near some water or in the rain I am good, but like I said before. I don't plain on taking it to the beach with a proper case on it.

The Pixel not having waterproofing, again does not mean much to me. That does not stop me from buying a phone.

Possibly, it's whether the CC address and shipping address have to match which could cause me a headache. Thankfully a relative is going to UK at the end of the month so if they don't they can call to a CPW store and simply buy one there for me.
Ah, I forgot about that.
Your CC billing address may have to be in the U.K. as well.

Just curious, everyone running Android 7.0. Do you use battery helping apps like Greenify or Naptime ? Do those truly help extend battery life like they say, by a substantial margin ?

So a little research shows Pixel owners on AT&T are likely out of luck in regards to wifi calling and VoLTE. As much as I was looking forward to test driving Google's new phone, sadly, this may likely be a deal breaker for me--even considering just cancelling my Pixel XL order outright to save the hassle of going through a return.

If I'd never used wifi calling/VoLTE on my iPhone, it probably wouldn't bother me but after you use it, the difference in quality is so dramatic it's nearly impossible to go back. :( Thanks AT&T for your usual antics and Google for not taking the proper steps to insure your phone has the necessary certification for this functionality on all networks.

Haven't tried but probably should as my average battery life on my 6P is lackluster at best considering the size of the battery.

That is a real shame. Att blows my mind sometimes with their crap. I don't know who to blame more, but neither got their crap together.

I haven't setup greenify yet. While my battery life is less than it was on PN 6 with greenify its getting me through the whole day without issue.

Less than a week before launch date. I can't wait to read reviews and hear feedback to see if this thing is worth all the hype.

I predict that when compared to the S7 Edge, the Pixel will be the clear winner on the software side while the S7 Edge will be the clear winner on the hardware side. The question becomes by how much. I predict the software disparity, for me, will be smaller than the hardware disparity. There's simply no making up for the lack of waterproofing or wireless charging.

I think it is in the works. The nexus line and a pixel phone can coexist imo. The pixel phone would probably be 650-700.

Regarding the rumour, I doubt it is true. I don't see Google going from 6 inches to 5.7 then to 5.5 inches.

What I see as a possibility is Google switching from lg to htc for the smaller nexus. While hauwei gets the nod for the bigger one. Both being all metal.

That would be a killer – it would probably kill off Android. Who else is going to want to produce Android phones if Google are producing their own and only letting other manufacturers have OS updates much later (which appears to be the plan)? Google want to be the new Apple of smartphones but it's a dumb time to be doing it. And look at their last attempt at being a smartphone producer, when they bought Motorola. That didn't last long.

I'm kinda glad the Pixel XL was sold out when I went to order. It gave me a chance to look at the LG V20 and realize it's a much better phone for me. I like plain vanilla but the little touches like second screen, IR blaster, removable battery, knock on, customizable soft keys and LG skin is very light and uniformed across the device.
That's the wonderful thing about Android many choices.

How old is that quote you just quoted ? Looks like Blaze's quote is ancient from like Springtime. Back before we knew if the high end Pixel's for both suzes, and both being built by HTC.

All of that is old rumors at this point.

I will say this, I'll bet the Pixel XL, actually will have pretty good battery life.

I briefly had the LG G5 and HTC 10, which use the SD820 + 4GB RAM, and both were rooted and ROM'd, and shockingly they both gave me some very impressive battery life for those sized phones.

And with the Pixel having similar hardware, and underclocked SD821 ( being a good thing ). And running Android 7.1 with the better Doze than what those above MM phones had, and the larger 3,450mAh battery, I'm betting the Pixel XL does great for battery life.

My Nexus 6P is no better than my old Note 5 battery wise. Even though the N5 had a smaller battery my 6P just matches it, doesn't best it. I get ok battery life on my 6P. With kernel tweaks and everything maximized, I get like 5.5h ScreenOn time. And that's with the phone heavily modified to give best battery life, and it's good, but not amazing or great.

Here's hoping the Pixel XL offers some great battery life.

What do you have to do to get companies to realize we want better battery life then thinner phones. I am tired of having to compromise battery life in getting a flagship. Make a fatter phone and we would all be much happier. Stop making them larger in overall package, and give us bigger batteries. This war to see who can fit the most into the thinnest phone has cost Samsung the Note 7, and it's cost us all battery life. We have said over and over battery life is more important.

I hear you there.

I wonder if the phone coming to Verizon is temporary exclusivity.

There seems to be a theory that the phone may eventually come to att. Next question is, will the unlocked version from Google get it if the att version does? Pretty lame

Yeah, I'm not sure what specifically is involved but I suspect the manufacturer must request certification for wifi calling and VoLTE. The only phones that presently support it on AT&T are the last 2 generations of iPhones, last 2 generations of Samsung flagships, a handful of LGs (V10, V20, G4, G5, K10) and HTC A9 and 10. All except the HTCs are sold by AT&T, thus my suspicion it must actually be requested if the manufacturer doesn't sell through the carrier.

I wish they took the route T-Mobile uses--they put the necessary code right into AOSP starting with Android 5.1, I believe so it's there for everything.

I decided not to cancel my order and just try it out to see if I can live with the performance.

I agree. I dont want a paper thin phone.
