Well you lucky duck Verizon subscribers, now have no choice not to upgrade to the Pixel with them. A truly great phone you can get on contract.

Well, Then: Verizon Says It’s Pixel Phones Will Get Updates When Google’s Do!

Verizon also said that “all operating system and security updates to the Pixel devices will happen in partnership with Google,” but maybe most importantly, that “when Google releases an update, Verizon phones will receive the same update at the same time. Verizon will treat the Pixel phones just like it does iOS updates, in a way, by allowing the Verizon Pixel phones to get updates immediately when Google releases them.

I'll believe it when we see it. Didn't they promise the same thing with the Galaxy Nexus?

I think it's less about 'Google grew a pair' and more Verizon reacting to getting skewered in the media because of their reputation. Hell, Android Central has a headline 'Don't Buy Your Google Pixel From Verizon.'

I think it still is about Google growing a pair. So in that link either Verizon became altruistic overnight, or Google grew a pair and laid down the law. Probably a combination of the 2. Verizon upper management probably does realize it delays updates way too long, especially this round where the carriers are being investigated for slow security updates. But Google also probably made a call and explained how this was important to their strategy.

In any regard, kudos to Google for getting this done. Now we'll see if it's true or if "the check is in the mail". It's a step in the right direction, although it was initially 2 steps backwards so I'm not sure if we are ahead yet. There also remains the issue of a locked bootloader, which few care about anymore, but would still make the pixel a dream phone in terms of customizing it.

I'm on Verizon -- with no plans to leave -- and this news is pushing me more toward purchasing the Pixel. I'm still concerned with losing wireless charging, but not as concerned about EIS vs OIS as I was initially. After convincing myself last week to not order it I'm having a hard time talking myself out of it right now, haha. I'm ready to go back to stock Android and 7.1/Pixel launcher looks very nice.

so then in theory the only difference btw the verizon & google pixels is that verizon will have locked bootloader?

not bad!

looks like folks that care about bootloader can byod the google pixel to verizon anyway

rather shocking  , I cant say I have any complaints

Haha I hear you. I am on AT&T, but they are not great just slightly better. I forgot, you are on T-Mobile right?

So if you are using the 6P, are you not using the JOD program right now?

You are on the best network. I think ATT has the most reliable and stable network in the U.S. and you get signal everywhere. I think better than Verizon IMO. I was on ATT for several years, really liked their network.

But...ATT has gotten pretty 1984 and locking down all their phones, almost on par with the BS Verizon does. So that turned me away to T-Mobile, who have been the most open network, and developer friendly, and not locking down their Samsung and LG phones like Verizon and ATT. I did have an issue with ATT billing, every month their bill was always different for me, always some crappy extra charge for this or that, never constant never the same.

But while T-Mobile's service is good and more affordable, with the same monthly bill, never an extra charge or anything, it's the same month after month, it's not killer good like ATT's network. I do think ATT has the best signal and network.

Saying that even T-Mobile Samsung phones are locked down now, so seems like all the carriers will be providing only locked down phones soon, just the iPhone, Samsung and LG mainly, being the carrier preferred companies to push.

Yes I am on JoD, but I spent the cash to buy my 64GB Nexus 6P brand new when it was on sale with Google for just $449 back in May.

Yeah I like Att for the most part. Your right that he bill changes every month, and of course they lock down their phones. It's seems like that is just a given with getting a phone from a carrier. The reason I have stayed with Att is because I have the grandfathered unlimited data. Now at 20gb before you get throttled, I am just hanging on as long as I can.

Nice grandfather plan 20GB that's pretty sweet. My wife and I on T-Mobile get 20GB shared, and then throttles after that. She uses maybe 2GB a month at most, and me maybe 10-12GB

Yeah I think that is pretty reasonable to give me 20gb before throttling. I have almost used it too. I have crappy internet sometimes at the house, so I watch YouTube videos on my phone, and it racks it up.

Does anyone know if Pixel has sRGB mode like the 6P to tone down the over saturation? I can't find anything about it. May have to wait for full reviews to find out. That's the only thing holding me back from ordering right now.

Isn't that specific to Developer Options in Setting? Isn't that available on any Android phone if you unlock Dev Settings?

Sadly no it's not available as standard even in dev options. It was a specific addition on the 6P hidden in dev mode.

So while I've been acclimating nicely to full time use of my Nexus 6P, one area it's falling woefully short (besides just mediocre battery life) is lack of wifi calling or VoLTE on AT&T. When your wife, who's basically tech oblivious, says during your latest call, 'Why does your phone suck?', it's pretty clear performance is substandard. :(

I believe I read it will have this functionality on Verizon but has it been published anywhere that it will also have this on the unlocked version on AT&T? It would really suck if I have to switch back to the iPhone solely because of this one single element.

Off topic,

I just installed the new "PureNexus 7.0" ROM on my Nexus 6P, and not sure if your familiar with this, but the developer Bean's is one of the best and most respected developers on XDA. He takes his time on new releases, does not rush anything out, he makes sure it's rock solid and ready stable daily use.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/development/rom-pure-nexus-layers-fi-wifi-calling-t3244563

So after two months of working on it, he released his Android N version this week, and my God, wow. It transformed my 6P into an even better device, super crazy smooth, plus warp speed fast, while also giving even better battery life, ( Easily getting 6h Screen On time, and all day heavy use, from 6:00am to 11:00pm ). Plus all the additional features a custom ROM gives you beyond stock 7.0 N, with even more deeper settings and more customization, and more tweaks. This ROM has WiFi calling, and VoLTE baked in by default.

I've been running it for three days now, and it's as stable as any phone, not one crash, zero freezes, it just all works perfectly. Plus he included the newest 7.1 apk's, like the new Google Dialer, and other features found on 7.1.

This is exactly the reason I love Nexus phones, or eventually I'll get to love the Pixel phone if it's just as easy to root and ROM, and comes down in price :) I really do not understated how people can have a Nexus device, and not run a good solid ROM on it, that's one of the big selling point of these phones IMO. This ROM completely transforms this phone into a night and day better phone compared to stock. With the extra added features like Wifi calling, VoLTE, and super deep tweaks and options, and significantly better battery life, and smoother UI, etc... Plus Android Pay still works with the systemless root stuff.

Living in Australia seems rough. Not only does every animal on the continent want to kill you, but you usually have to wait longer to get your hands on new electronics gadgets than folks in other regions. Google's Pixel launch is an exception, though. Pre-orders are live via the Google Store and on carrier Telstra, and the carrier managed to screw that up in the best way possible by sending out pre-orders a week early.

Those who bought the phone from Telstra are already getting their devices today.

This Samsung fiasco is such good news for Google. The manufacturer who moved the most Android phones ALSO had the worst iteration of it. Although its appearance had improved from some of the worst Android skin days (my god, Sense was the worst software ever, and TouchWiz was not much better), the laggy garishness of the device still persisted.

Then in strolls the ****ing Pixel phone. "**** YOU, Samsung!" it shouted as it showed off its unified design language and un-fettered ******** phone.

I hope this phone explodes (not literally, and after referencing samsung's debacle previously, I'm not so sure explodes is the best descriptor I want to use to describe my hopes for the phone's retail success but I've already typed this much so why not) and stock android finally gets the respect and attention it deserves.

Does anyone know if the Pixel will be sold in the UK outside of EE and Google's own store ?

Carphonewarehouse are definitely selling it. We have advertisements for it in the stores and you can also pre-order on the website and in store.
People might not be too thrilled about buying from CPW, but they do offer better contracts than the networks and price match. :)

I wonder if carphone would ship to my parcel motel address in Northern Ireland, might be a way of getting around the UK only release ...

Not sure who made this but an interesting look into a day using the Pixel. Nice way of showcasing the features.
