Have you considered just keeping it as a backup you can actually use if e.g. the Pixel is getting repaired? I don't think the 5X has that huge a resale value anyway so I've kept mine.

The issue is my iPhone 7.. I would like to keep that as well!
iPhone 7 and Pixel seem a good fit for me! :)

It is really an awesome phone. I have a 7+ and a Pixel XL, and like many things about the Pixel better. Do you feel tied to iMessage?
Hows the regular Pixel in terms of battery? Thats what i struggle the most with my 5s. As for imessage, not really, i never really take advantage of it

How do you get the Pixel for just $325 on T-Mobile ? The only carrier selling the Pixel is Verizon, unless T-Mobile just all of a sudden got it too ?

I have the Pixel XL, but I would say it's as good as my 7+. Gets through the entire day with no issues.

Hey guys I have another question. When you ordered your device, did you guys receive a digital receipt and did the receipt have the IMEI on it? I'm looking to take advantage of the Pixel promotion for Tmobile, and I just want to make sure everything goes flawless

Thanks!

Got my Pixel XL yesterday and surprisingly my first impression after playing around with it for a day were "meh". Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great device, the battery life seems like it will be excellent (based on my limited time with it), the camera is on par with my 7+ and better in some instances (and worse in others but some of that is subjective) but I don't know I just can't shake the "meh" feeling

I think most of it comes down to two prior Android experiences, one with the Nexus 6p and the other with the Note 7. I think those of us who (briefly) had the Note 7 agreed that it was a flagship device in every way (albeit with some software issues here and there no different than any other phone). When I had the Note 7 I was dead set on keeping it and I felt that from a value perspective the Note delivered.

My experience with the 6p was similar. It didn't have as many cool features as the Note but at the price point (think I paid $450 for the 64gb), I was blown away at the performance compared to my $850 6S+ 64GB. At that point I really couldn't justify the iPhones price.

While I still think $900 is a ridiculous price to pay for a phone, for some reason I feel that the 7+ offers a better feature set OVERALL than the $900 Pixel. This includes everything that goes into using an Apple device (continuity as I use a Mac and an iPad, and everyone's favorite discussion point iMessage/FaceTime). I'm in the US so no one I know really uses anything other than iMessage.

I was able to shake the Apple ecosystem thing with the Nexus 6p because of the value to price and again with the Note 7 because it was just such a better overall experience than the iPhone. I LOVED the Note and all it's features and the Spen really changed how I used a phone. It was because of that (and some other features) that I was "done" with the Apple ecosystem.

I just don't have the same feeling with the Pixel. It pretty much offers me the same experience as using the iPhone. Notifications are (as always with Android) MUCH better than iOS and I love the customization but at the end of the day I just don't see a real benefit in using the Pixel as opposed to the 7+.

Granted I've only been using the phone for 1 day but here are just my first impressions. By Day 2 with the Note I knew I wanted to keep it, by about 2 weeks in some of the Android cons (vs Apple ecosystem) were bothering me a little bit but I still knew I wanted to keep it. After 1 day with the Pixel I know it's most likely going to go back.

Now I do like the direction Google is going with the Pixel. Hardware feels premium, camera is excellent (for a phone), software is snappy, and of course the baked in Google services are so much better to use on Android than iOS imo. I think Google REALLY needs to focus on their messaging strategy. It's just absolutely terrible right now and there's no direction. I'm not saying iMessage for android needs to happen but at a minimum Google needs to pick a messeaging app and commit to it and build it out in a way that attracts users to its system similar to how iMessage does for Apple. A hard thing to accomplish in the US at this point with Apples current dominance in this area but u have to start somewhere. Maybe RCS will be the answer but even that doesn't have full carrier support.

Didn't mean this to turn into an Android v iOS post.

TLDR - the Pixel seems like an excellent device but imo doesn't offer the value to price that the Note 7 or iPhone 7+ does.

Edit:

Wanted to add one more thought. I currently have a 2014 MacBook and a 2015 iPad Pro. I'm pretty sure that my next laptop and tablet will not be Apple products as with those products I don't feel the value to price warrants a purchase for my use case. I can easily do all my personal "work" on a chromebook or cheap windows laptop. That said, if I had no iPad or MacBook I still think at this point I would give the nod to the 7+ because for the same price as a Pixel the iPhone offers a better overall experience for my use case. However, the decision wouldn't be as easy as again the Pixel seems like an EXCELLENT device. I can see it completely catching up with a few additional hardware tweaks and a unified messaging platform.
Quick update on my experience so far.

Battery life has been excellent I can easily make it thru a full day. I don't manage my battery at all but obv YMMV. I'm getting about the same battery life as my 7+

After taking a lot more pictures I think k overall the Pixel is the best camera phone that I've ever used. Doesn't mean it's the best in all areas but overall I'm getting better pictures with the Pixel than my 7+. I definitely notice some jitters in videos but it's not that bad

Don't have the "meh" feeling as much anymore but still a little weary about keeping this thing at the price point.

In light of the OnePlus 3T, Google should have done better.

Or to put it another way, the 3T really reveals how overpriced the Pixels are.

Partially true, if you ignore OnePlus and their software updates and commitment to the device software wise.

If you value software longevity, the Pixel is still the most reliable. But then you could almost buy two OP3T devices for 1 pixel XL so it's hard to argue with value hardware wise. You could buy this and next year's OP4 for price of a 128gb XL.

But I still have no qualms over the Pixel, for me, it's the first android device that makes me feel fully satisfied, and therefore I think it's justified it's price.

I agree to a point.....I mean for the money the OPO3t is awesome! But for me the camera and battery life on the regular OPO3 was not up to par. The Pixel XL has a better camera and battery life.
Then to me the Pixel XL offers a better user experience all around then the OPO3 did. For me the Pixel XL is worth the price I paid. I ended up selling my OPO3 on swappa once I settled in with the Pixel.

I do agree that Google can do better though. They should have a 64GB option available and wireless and SD card.

So I've got to move back to the states in January at the latest February so my wife and I decided that the Pixel will stay here with her and I'll take my N6 with me there. So I charged the thing up and started using it again and I'll say that my N6 with Pure Nexus is almost as good as my Pixel. I simply can't wait for a Pure Nexus Pixel ROM nor can I wait for a Pixel 2

i am not sure about it to be honest. I think you can. I just put a VZW sim in my Pixel and it automatically wanted to install a bunch of VZW bloatware. I think all VZW phones are unlocked for GSM carriers like AT&T and TMO as part of the deal with the FCC when they wanted to go to 4G service.
You would have to put the TMO sim in and do a factory reset so it would not get all the VZW stuff.

Yes you can. Take out the Verizon SIM before you boot up the phone, and turn it on with your T-Mobile SIM. Easy as that and you don't have to worry about the Verizon bloat app auto-installing. Your Pixel will also update to the latest International/Global build for the November update if the phone is still on October patch.

Pixel Update Rolling Out With Double-Tap and Lift-To-Wake (Updated)
Here is the step by step to install this if you don't want to wait for it to roll out to your area...

If you're on Windows, you can follow the steps I just did:

  1. Download and install Minimal ADB
  2. Download your Pixel OTA Update to your PC
  3. Plug in your Pixel, make sure USB Debugging is turned on
  4. Open Minimal ADB and run the command adb devices to make sure your Pixel is connected to your PC correctly
  5. If so, run the command adb reboot bootloader
  6. On your device, using your volume buttons, select Reboot Recovery
  7. Once the dead Android appears, hold power and press volume up once
  8. Select apply update from ADB and head to your PC
  9. Run the command adb sideload [filename of update.zip] - My zip file was located on my desktop, to which I renamed to OTA. So I ran the command: adb sideload C:\Users\computer\Desktop\OTA.zip
  10. Wait for it to finish and you're all set

Off topic:

But still confused as to why Google gave Verizon the Pixel's ? If Google wants this phone to be a smashing success and available for all, why limit it to just one carrier in the U.S. ?

Most people ( 90% ) still upgrade their phones through their carriers first and foremost. Just puzzled why they didn't also put this phone on ATT, T-Mobile and Sprint.

I know you can finance through Google or Best Buy, but if you're already on a carrier contract plan, that's not good, you prefer to just get a phone your carrier offers.

Oh well, rant over...I do think the Pixel XL is the #1 phone of 2016.

My point is, over the years shopping in carrier stores, and the few that sold Nexus phones, I recall the Nexus being plane Jane, but always so buttery smooth and fast in the store, and the hot phone of the year, be it Samsung or HTC, or LG always had some micro stutter, or slight lag.

Back in the Nexus-S days that Nexus was smoooooth, and the other Android phone's not so much.

Same with the Motorola Nexus 6, on display that Moto 6 was so hot butter smooth and fast, and the current other phones not even close to the same.

And now the Pixel, go to Verizon, play with the Pixel, then play with the S7 Edge or LG G5 or whatever, no other phone in the store seems to perform as warp speed fast, but also just so smooth and lag free.
