Alright guys, time for my first stupid question. My pixel is working perfectly, but a co-worker received one, and he is not getting notification sounds. We checked for DND, made sure sounds were on and turned up. The active display lights up, but emails received by the G-Mail app do not make a tone. Any suggestions? (Sorry, new to Android)

Go into the gmail app and hit the 3 lines in the upper left hand corner, scroll down to settings, press the gmail.com account and check to see if sound is on under "Inbox sound and Vibrate.

This setting appears for an @Gmail.com address, but the account that isnt working is Exchange. For whatever reason, that setting does not appear for an Exchange account.

I currently have the Nexus 6P, running a 7.1 ROM, and I am loving it. But I can get a great deal from my carrier to pick up a iPhone 7 Plus next month, and think I will, just to play around with it. Of course I would still keep the 6P.

And rumor says once Apple official releases 10.2, a new Jailbreak is supposed to be released.
Won't the 7+ have the same drawbacks you listed on the Pixel? No wireless charging....no SD card. Lack of customization unless a JB is published then it can be broken if IOS is updated. So security is compromised because you can't take the updates from Apple. I love my 7+ so I am not knocking it.
But even with a JB you can't make the changes you can with your 6P and Roms.
Oh and let me add price too...isn't it about the same price as the Pixel?

Good points.

#1 My 6P is running great with a sweet 7.1 ROM, and I see ZERO reason to side grade to the Pixel XL. Yes is the Pixel better than the 6P, for sure, of course the hardware is better, and display, etc... but in my opinion, lately the year to year upgrades are not night and day drastically different anymore. Yes better, but will texting be faster ? Will it make phone calls quicker ? Will GPS Navigation work better ? Will it surf the web better ? The answer to all of that is, most likely not. I rather wait for a major upgrade and get the Pixel 2 with the SD835, 6GB RAM, and waterproof.

#2: An iPhone 7 Plus with JB can be a pretty cool phone. Just something different to play with other than Android.

#3: I am shocked at how good old phones still perform today. Two old phones I have sitting at home as back up fun devices; OnePlus One, and HTC One M8, those were both released in 2014, and both are running custom CM14 ROM's, and I am shocked at how smooth and fast they perform. They are buttery smooth, and feel like a top high end phone still. And these phones are two and half years old. Yeah the display and camera tech isn't as great as new phones such as the S7 Edge, but they still run like champs.

Got the Pixel last Wednesday and let me just say this. This is Google's version iPhone. I had read that and laughed before I got the phone but it's really true. Everything "just works".

Yeah, I wish the design was a little better and that it had waterproof or wireless charging, but ultimately now I think it's truly up to user preference on whether they prefer iOS or Android but in both of their pure forms, they're excellent.

I'll update the thread when I have a little more time with it but I have had absolutely no issues with this phone so far. Love Google Assistant compared to Siri.

HTC One M8 was virtually a perfect phone. I didn't find the camera as bad as others had complained. Sometimes I think we tend to go overboard on camera expectations. Most folks take crappy selfies in bars or pics of their dogs.

I had heard there was some reason for them to get an update out to Canada before everyone else due to something with the signal that was affecting some users.

It's because Canadians are more tolerant, they won't fly off the handle if something is wrong. They'll just chalk it up to an early release "eh" and go have a LaBatts. As long as you don't **** with their Hockey they're GTG. With that said they're a little on edge since there wasn't a single Canadian club in the playoffs last year.

How is the Nexus 6P on Nougat? Is it as smooth as the Pixel?

I'm running PureNexus ROM based off 7.0, and it is off charts SMOOTH, and very fast snappy. Like ZERO lag ever. I'm extremely happy with it. So happy with my 6P running Nougat I'm in no hurry to get a Pixel XL.

But if your in the market for a new phone, the #1 best smartphone for 2016 is easily the Pixel XL, nothing else compares.

I already have a Pixel actually, I just like getting more phones :p

LOL all the millionaires here, buying like half a dozen brand new smartphones every year.

I make a pretty good living, but can no way spend a several grand a year on phones. I have kids in private school, and a house, and cars, etc... But good for you guys that have this disposable income, I'm envious.

Anyone got the latest update with rise to wake and double tap to wake?

Works great! Just picked up the pixel yesterday and got the update when I was setting it up. Not sure why we (Canadians) got it first. I updated it in the first hour so I didn't try it first. Hopefully our neighbours will get it shortly.

I'm curious, are a lot of you Pixel XL owners previous iPhone 7 Plus or 6S Plus owners ? Now that you've experienced Google's best Android offering, being on par with Apple's high end, did you sell your IPhone Plus for the XL ?

Or do you still find the iPhone Plus to be a good phone, and still like it along side your Pixel XL ?

Just curious, thx

I have both...the 7+ and Pixel XL and a S7 Edge. The 7+ and Pixel XL are pretty close to each other in overall functionality imho....

Yes. Absolutely. The Pixel is smooth and I haven't lost any functionality whatsoever.

I use both Pixel XL and IP7+. I find both run fairly close to each other until you start browsing. Chrome is still crappy, especially compared to Safari. In addition, iOS still has a smoothness that Android has yet to duplicate. Pixel is as close as they've gotten.
