I can't wait for the second generation pixel to right the wrongs of this generation.

But then where will both Samsung and Apple be by then? With both of them offering curve/edge displays, will the second generation Pixel keep up and have curved screens too?
I'm definitely in the flat screen camp. I tried the S7e and still have an S6e but, regardless of size, just do not see the benefit in function. False touches and distorted reading/movie watching are things I'd never trade just so my phone looks good at a certain angle.

Touchwiz never bothered me but now the Pixel has a great camera and does split screen, Samsung really need to sort out the fluency and updates to win me back. There's bigger pressure than ever to streamline software and I hope they do it. And, of course, release a phone that's safe.

It'll be interesting to see how they approach the S8 hardware after the design aging yet getting so badly burned by throwing everything in the Note 7. Can they stick with the same design again and get away with retina scanning without touching software? Personally, I'm tired of glass and want to see something new.

Agree with a lot here. 2017 will definitely be an interesting year. Big changes that are finally coming from Apple. Samsung will have to pull out all the stops to recover from their Note 7 fumble. And Google, now in the premium hardware space, will have to prove they can keep up with the big two.

Then there are the smaller players like LG, Moto, Sony, Huawei, OnePlus, etc. -- how will they continue challenging the industry.

It feels like the top dog space is up for grabs, at least for tech enthusiasts. Samsung, Google, and Apple all have obvious ways to improve. I actually wish there's another rival at the table to keep everyone pushing. OnePlus 4 Pro anyone?

The design is just a matter of taste and it's it my taste. If a phone has such big bezels use them, add a notification LED, physical home button and of course a micro sd slot.

I'm sure the OS experience os great since it's stock Android but the hardware is meh especially with the One Plus 3s for half the price and Samsung's next flagship just a few months away.

The Pixel has a notification LED in the top speaker grill, you just have to enable it in settings.

Never understood that - the whole LED in the speaker thing.

Absolutely terrible design decision IMO. Much prefer a dedicated space for it on the front of the phone.
Didn't even know the Pixel did that, but hardly surprising seeing the other weird design choices.

Eh. I've seen other phones do this like the HTC M8 and it worked just fine.

What difference does it make? It still lights up when you get a notification, why does the location matter?

I don't like it.
I think it looks better when it's a dedicated light outside of the speaker. It looks like an after thought shoved in there.

But that's just me. We all have our likes and dislikes...

I just my Caseology case for my Pixel. It's pretty nice and makes is so I don't notice that my screen protector is too narrow

Btw: the speaker on the Pixel is actually really good. Sounds loud and not tinny. This is going to sound nuts but I think it's almost as good as my IP7+ dual speakers.

8 REASONS GOOGLE PIXEL IS BETTER THAN THE IPHONE

A lot I agree with, especially the last point. I've been making this point for years now:

Z3twuwL.png

To this, I would add the frustrating inconsistencies with the iPhone's fingerprint/passcode to unlock the phone and to make purchases on the App store. Also, the inability to download "large" apps via data on the App store. Likewise, the inability to download software updates unless on WiFi (while Google has modular software updates happening in the background). Inconsistencies with what keyboard I set is frustrating too.

You don't have to worry about any of these things with Android. The Pixel handles all the mentioned things better, easier, and more seamless. It might be safe to say the Pixel is the new smartphone that "just works."

Well, unless it's submerged in water. ;)

Why does Google Photos separate screen grabs taken with the phone from the general/main gallery? You have to go to "device folders" or "albums" tab then click "screen shots" to see screen grabs.

Why don't they just appear in the main gallery like in the TouchWiz gallery app? It seems like it would be a no brainer. I believe the same is true with downloaded pics, too. All photos -- no matter where they're captured from -- just appears in the main TouchWiz gallery. But for Photos, you have to hunt for it sometimes depending on where they come from. A bit idiotic.

Can someone enlighten me why Google does this?

Really? After you take a screengrab with power + down-volume button?

Hm. My Pixel doesn't seem to do this. Is there something I'm missing? Settings? I have to go to "Device folder" or "albums" in order to see it.

Correct, unfortunately, it's always been that way for me so I don't really know how to troubleshoot the issue.
