Just in time for Christmas.... the Anandtech 6p review is up:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/9820/the-google-nexus-6p-review

Lots of interesting stuff about the Qualcomm performance this year in Android phones. Very interesting recommendation for US vs Europe prices with. Definitely echos what I have seen around the forums. Shame that Google didn't price this about the same in all markets. For the US prices, I thought the 6p was a great buy. I totally get why my European friends have reservations though.

Awesome review as they always do. Also confirms quantitatively the difference between my 6S plus battery and the nexus, which was the driving reason for my returning it. The base mark score is interesting in that the chip seems efficient with higher CPU use, so those doing gaming and other more intensive things than my typical use case may not see a huge difference. Still, fantastic otherwise

Yep at €499 it's a steal, but at €679 it's a harder sell. Especially when you factor in its not subsidised by any carriers unlike your iPhones or Samsung Galaxy devices.

The 5X at €480 is really overpriced imho too.

after much gadget 'soulsearching' i've decided not to go for the 6P nor take advantage of the extended return period. At £499 its a little expensive for what it is. I still have my Nexus 7 tab to get my stock android fix and the 6s Plus is good enough , although not perfect .

Enjoy your phone guys , I'm outta here!

5X probably going back, gonna give the 6P another run for just $150 more. I've been in serious like with the 5X but it's never going to be love and even though it was only $300 the 5X surely would only be a transitional device until something more attractive came along. Thank you Google for giving me until January 22 to decide which to send back.

And $50 dollars off now: http://www.droid-life.com/2015/12/16/google-nexus-6p-deal/

EDIT: Oh, you already did the math. Thumbs up.

Terrible idea, Google: http://www.androidauthority.com/hangouts-losing-sms-integration-rumor-662998/

I don't want to use two different apps.

Google, seriously, stop REMOVING features. The keyboard recently lost "aggressive auto correct" and the keyboard has suffered greatly from it.

What in the world are you doing, Sundar?
I'll need a shower to cleanse the dirty feeling saying this, but if you're on Verizon I can recommend the Verizon Message+ app. It syncs with tablets cross platform (Android and iOS) via wifi including mms and voice calls. There are also syncing Windows and oSX apps for desktop messaging (tho no voice calling from desktop app). There's even MyVerizon web portal access if none of those are available.

...adding, I've never used Hangouts so I can't compare feature for feature. Never quite got (or looked into) what Google was doing with Hangouts and get the feeling they don't know either...

I am considering the 6P now that it's on sale, but it could drop in price even more within the next month or so. I have heard many good things about the phone and it's considered the consensus best phone of the year. I had doubts about Huawei, but they did it. LG's Nexus 5X ain't too shabby either.

The 6P is a great buy at $50 discount.

64GB Nexus 6P is $499 versus the 64GB iPhone 6S Plus at $849. Insane.

Don't forget free overnight shipping, and extended return period (til Jan 22nd, I believe). So you really have no reason not to try the phone in your hand to truly find out for yourself if it's right for you or not.

Google is pushing these Nexus devices hard. Good for them.

If I can use my Google Play $50 credit, then I would definitely buy the 6P and forget the 5X. $400 before tax for the phone, $428 after tax? Hot damn. I'll call Google soon.

So I ordered the 6P and will see if it's worth the extra money. I'll do some initial research on it now, if not, I will cancel my order and stick with what I have.

I think the dream for all of us is to unify "Gchat" and SMS. I could see them keeping Hangouts as video calling. But in principle I agree with you.

That's exactly what hangouts does. Gchats and sms. Don't know why Google wants to separate them.

Sure, but the implementation and branding are both garbage in hangouts.

Hm, I suppose. I don't find it that bad. It's a simple switch to go from either.

I do wish there was a universal "inbox" like there is on Gmail. So that all gmail accounts chats can be in one place.

I definitely don't mind Hangouts getting improved. It's often laggy, for example. However, it's a shame Google is planning to remove features from it (if that rumor is true) and force users to use two separate apps. :T
