First full day with it and I will spare you guys from another long and likely boring detailed breakdown.

I'll only say I don't think this is a keeper. While the software flies, I find it just a hair too bare bones. I miss the quick and reliable camera experience (pictures in daylight are absolutely terrific though). I miss the little touchwiz tweaks like direct access to toggles. Or the easier and faster gallery app versus the painfully slow photos app. There are more examples I can't think of. Little things.

I also miss the size of my s6. The 6p is manageable, but it's no question very big. And tall to be more specific.

Where it wins though is the software speed, the finger print scanner (I'm really warming up to the backside scanner. It feels surprisingly natural there), and the large glorious screen. Doing anything on the screen is a joy. But it's all this enough to keep me? I don't believe so.

Still not convinced.

And as rumors gear up for the s7, the 6p drops further into the shadows for me. I can't help but feel like I'm not really getting my $600 worth.

Good to read your findings epic... Pretty much everything you wrote is what I thought I'd find so didn't bother with the 6p despite the great temptation.

I did play with one in store but key things were: the size (tricky one-handing it); plainness of stock; scanner on the rear (annoying when on a desk or in a car mount); and camera (clunky launch and mixed results).

It's not to say it's a good device and suits a ton of people. However, no matter what I've tried this year I keep going back to the S6.

Screen -- pretty gorgeous. Definitely doesn't get as low light as the S6, and definitely not as bright either. But serviceable. And in normal use, the screen really is quite nice.

For those with a latest-gen S6 or Note 5, could you elaborate a bit on a comparison between the Samsung and Nexus 6P AMOLED display quality? I’ve heard a number of times the Samsungs have a brighter screen (not sure by how much). Do you ever find the lower max brightness an issue or wish you could go brighter? How do the colors compare? Viewing angles? Any screen defects or tinting (pinkish tints)? I’m testing a S6 Edge+ right now, and it’s the most beautiful display I’ve ever seen and used. Not sure how much of a step down the Nexus 6P screen really is – if it is one at all? Is it a letdown going from the latest Samsungs to the Nexus? For anyone with a iPhone 6s, how do you find the LCD display in comparison?

I explained this in this thread earlier.

The 6P has a fine screen with great viewing angles but ..

The Noye 5/ Edge + are better. They are brighter, they have better outdoor visibility and the ambient light sensor / adaptive brightness works faster and more efficiently.

They can be calibrated with a better white point, the 6P offers an SRGB mode ticked away in developer options but its just not as good.

Essentially it's a great screen, but the Samsung's still win out.

Interesting to hear your findings epicrayban

Pretty much how I felt from a very brief go on my mates device a couple of weeks ago.
It does lots of things well, but after seeing my other friends S6 Edge Plus yesterday, the Nexus seemed boring and clunky in comparrison.

Also interesting reading your thoughts on stock Android. I am using very close to stock on my One Plus X and it definitely has its annoyances. The no gallery app is rubbish and the camera layout it not very good at all in my opnion.
These aren't things that are easily overlooked and it's the biggest bug bear of my One Plus.

Sadly, I have no option but to stick with it due to moving house and needing the money I've saved from switching from my 6S. But if I had endless money I'd definitely look at moving over to Samsung.
I really really like the Edge Plus and the camera is just fantastic.

It may drop in price further once the S7 arrives so I might take stock of my finance then and see if I can move over to one.

Nexus should stay out of the phablet market. The Nexus 6 tanked big time, one will get a fairer shake of their money's worth with the 6P in a few months if they wait to purchase and then if they want to sell it down the road they will not get slaughtered.

And what about OTA update for the Nexus 6? Geez Louise!!

Don't forget the Nexus 6 was insanely expensive for a Nexus.

So is the Nexus 6P by that logic ;) Only in USA is the 6P priced lower than Nexus 6's RRP.

Here

32gb Nexus 6 sold for €649 ($715)
32gb Nexus 6P is €679 ($750)

The $499 pricing is nothing but a distant hope for anyone outside of the USA

The 6P is clearly Google turning a corner. Regardless of the performance of the 6 in sales, the 6P is unanimously considered better in every way. If the Best Buy rumors are true, then we know Google is making a killing on the 6P.

Where am I going with this? The 6P value, while not necessarily iPhone high, will be higher than previous "phablets" and Nexus absolutely belongs in the phablet market.

Still wondering if the Google-speced chips will ever come to fruition. I love the idea of a Pixel phone with a name like "Pixel M".

I missed something--what BestBuy rumors? The 6P isn't even for sale via BB.

Gotcha--but that doesn't speak to 6P sales volumes at all. BestBuy sold the previous Nexus phones and they weren't big sales leaders either.

In the US at least, the amount of ads for the 6P and 5X have been more than all Nexus phones combined. I never remember seeing an ad for the Nexus 6. Now they are on buildings, billboards, bus stops and during very high profile sporting events. My wife, who swore she would never leave Apple, just switched to a 5x and loves it. With little persuasion from me. I know the commercials had something to do with it. After a couple days of use she said she felt stupid for ever considering paying so much for the new iPhone when she feels now the 5x does everything the same, or if not better, for like half the price.

Obviously all anecdotal, but I am pretty immersed in the technology hype along with the rest of us here. And I have seen far more buzz for the nexus than ever before. Pair that with Project Fi growing every day here in the US. I think Google has finally got the ball rolling big time and its only going to grow over the next few Nexus releases.

Anyone still waiting like I am for the 6.0.1 OTA update ? I even went to the extreme of taking my sim out, erasing my phone and setting it up fresh without the sim to see if it would then prompt me for it, but nope .... :(

I'm almost certain the 6P is going back. Great device, but I can tell I will not be needing a full week with it to determine if it's replacing my S6 or not.

And in light of the growing S7 rumors, I think I rather save my money for that potential upgrade instead.

Based on the responses over at Reddit they just did another big wave in the past hour. If it still isn't there for you, I sideloaded the OTA last week with the Nexus Toolkit. Really easy, not root or unlocked bootloader needed.

It's only three weeks till the new year and then you can bet the flow of S7 rumours will only pick up even more in January.

You tried it and there is nothing wrong preferring another device. It's just a preference and at least by trying something different it reaffirms for yourself the important things you want in your mobile device. :). The nexus 6p and likely nexus devices generally are not it and there's nothing wrong with that.
