The double tap on the app button to bring up the previous used app is so awesome! Why didn't they think of this before?! So simple yet so useful.

I cannot wait to get this feature. I would use it so much. I often switch between a combination of two primary apps.

This will be the alt-tab of smartphones.

Same here. I mainly use two apps at a time too. Another thing I found out which might be old news is if you're on your home screen and double tap then it will being up the last used app. Double tap again and it brings up the other previously used app like usual.

Yuck. Just my opinion of course but what's with the giant chin? There better be some hidden capacitive controls (highly unlikely considering the leaked animation tied to the softkeys in the new Nexus launcher) else that's the biggest waste of space since the HTC logo on the M7. And the back panel seems to suffer from multiple personality disorder--top wants to be a glass Galaxy panel while bottom wishes it was an iPhone. And even though it's got big section up top that's not metal, they still needed to include an antenna line at the bottom?

I'm perplexed by this design, too.

In fairness those images wouldn't do any phone justice. They are horribly cropped and you can barely see the real design. It likely won't be too bad in reality at all, indeed there are elements that look promising. This is certainly a device that we will have to wait for proper images. However Google's biggest issue is that it's also a phone that's probably best seen in person and of course with only Google selling it, that's something that's nigh on impossible to do for the majority of us.

So first, I would say Google needs to fully move into the "Nexus is a consumer device" realm from the "Nexus is a developer device" realm. Second, if Google doesn't want to open stores, they should start expanding their Best Buy efforts to combat the very large Apple and Samsung stands in the major retailer. It's nice that they sometimes have a small Google section with Chromecasts and Chromebooks, but they should also have Nexus devices so we're not left to guess what these devices feel like.

Completely agree. It's a joke that we can't actually get to 'feel' these devices before we commit to purchase. Yes it's fantastic that Google have a very easy return policy, but surely that has to be less cost effective than actually getting them into stores (even carrier neutral ones such as carphonewarehouse) so that consumers can actually decide prior to parting with their cash. These devices will never reach their true potential audience the way google retail them.

They're terrible leaks for sure. Regardless, not promising stuff.

I could understand Google not making any waves in the Nexus line if I knew there was some future Pixel phone around the corner, but I'm not confident of that.

I want a Pixel XL but can't get them on a carrier contract deal where I live, so I'm considering getting a cheap used 6P to test having the fingerprint reader on the back etc. And then maybe buy the Pixel outright once I'm more sure that it's worth the price, or get the Pixel 2 on contract next year if that one gets more widely distributed and offered by carriers.

I'm curious as to how much of the Google Assistant experience I can get with the 6P though, as that's one of the points that most appeals to me with the Pixel. Those of you who have used the 6P extensively - how well does "OK Google" work on it, and would using Google Now give me enough of the Assistant experience for my plan to make sense?

You can root the 6P and do a small edit to the build.prop file to get the full Assistant experience like the Pixel. Otherwise it's just Google Now with Assistant locked inside Allo.

If you want to go further, you can throw Pixel launcher, dialer and more on there, too.

What you're thinking of doing is what I did.
