hows the battery life on the 6P? anybody got a 6S Plus as well? MRU? ;)
It's OK. I get around 4 hours SOT and occasionally but not often goes up to 5.

It still isnt as good as the 6S Plus and even standby with Doze can still be as inconsistent as ever with android. Standby - 1 day it might drop 3% overnight. The next it could be 15%. I honestly don't see any improvement there compared to Samsung or Motorola devices current which are on lollipop without Doze.

One massive advantage the 6s Plus has its epic battery life. I'm one of those who will fiddle with a phone all day long and it's no different with my iPhone. By the end of the day I still have 20% or more which is more than acceptable.

I'm sticking to the iPhone a little longer until after xmas at least anyway and the battery life is one of the reasons

Yeah

at 5am off charge yesterday even at 23:00 I still had about 18% left. I thought the 6P would have similar battery life. Surprised it's similar to the samsung ones to be honest.

Yep, I had a loaner 6s+ for a week and its battery was definitely better than that of 6P's, but for me the 6P is good enough. So while I'd like the 6P to have as awesome battery life as the 6s+, I rather had Android's advantages and saved almost 300€ compared to a 6s+ with the same storage.

Yeah for me regardless of which has more left at the end of the day, the fact is I haven't had the need to charge before bedtime with it so I don't find battery life to be an issue regardless.

Yep, getting through the day consistently is the key for me. If I've gone somewhere where I've had to use my phone a lot, I've typically taken my powerbank with me, but so far I haven't needed it.

Yeah I think as long as it lasts you a full working day thats the main thing. I know some don't like charging every night but I can't be bothered to charge at some point early in the next day

That's key. In my world, battery life is measured in whole days. If the phone lasts for a day and a half, that's one day. If the phone lasts two days, that's two days. I can charge my device every night.

I do wonder if Apple ever goes USB Type C on their phones. I can see either as possible

Apple should never use type C... They would then share the market with other devices. If they use proprietary components like they are, they would profit more $$$ because consumers are forced to buy said components.

In the end it's all about $$$$.

I don't see Apple going to the type C standard anytime soon. They have patents on the lightning port connector. Then if rumors are true that Apple intends to get rid of the headphone jack and just use the lightning port for audio....well that leaves out the type C connector.

I'll just keep voicing my predictions as I'm waiting for the 6P to arrive today... :)

Ya know what's another obstacle in the 6P's way?

The Samsung Galaxy S7.

Everything I'm reading about it so far, I like. If the rumors are true, Samsung is only implementing minimal hardware changes. The design will remain similar, which I have no problem with since I love my S6 design, and the obvious specs will be upgraded, like USB C, better processor, maybe bigger battery (cause the leaks so far make the chassis and all look a little thicker, but I am just speculating), and etc.

The real magic and focus is in the software. If the rumors are true that Samsung is spending more of their time and money on software next year instead of hardware, then the potential is very exciting. If that partnership with Google to optimize TouchWiz is legit, can you imagine what that could mean for the software experience?

Samsung has always had the hardware down; they rarely fail in the hardware department. Their software, despite having made good strides in 2015, still has room for improvement. I completely agree that software is where they should focus on in 2016.

And if that's the case, it could, once again, negate the strength and advantage the Nexus 6P has. The Nexus will always get quicker updates, sure, but the day to day experience between the 6P and what could be the S7 will possibly be more minimal than ever.

Exciting stuff. With the S7 around the corner in the new year, is the near $600 dollars I'm dropping for the 6P worth it? Especially when one of its main advantage (software) may be negated after a few months?

Not boding well for the 6P.........

I wouldn't go so far as to call it "ew," but I agree with you, the software can only get better for them. I hope their partnership with Google to tackle it is true.

If it is, the potential for the S7 to own will be amazing.

It would be great if Samsung could put out a hires screen with the ability to set it to a lower res

That would actually be an awesome hardware feature. Is that possible? To switch a screen's resolution? It's just software right?

Update: (Battery life)

So my experience with the battery life has been average, to not so good for me. (4 hours SOT with 12-15 hours usage). This might be a result of me living in a new country so I reply heavily on GPS turn by turn navigation which is a killer on batteries.

Anyhow I browsed some forums to find tips to improve battery life and I found this:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...mize-battery-life-samsung-galaxy-s6-edge.html

This video has some of the tips in article above but of course giving you visual instructions, so easier to follow.

Now before persons start bashing, there are many features that are enabled on Android that people don't or rarely use. So why not disable them?

Anyhow after implementing most of these tips last night, I am currently at 60% with 2 hours 45 mins SOT and 13 hours off charger. Based on this I am on track to have over 6 hrs SOT. Doze did not kick in last night either, lost 8% overnight. This is the best battery life I have had and I am 1.5 months into ownership.

The main things from the article that I think has increased my battery life are:
1. turning off wifi and bluetooth always scanning (instructions are in the article if you are not sure how to, if you're still unsure you can ask me and I will help you).
2. going to accounts and disabling sync features for your gmail account that you don't use or can easily manually refresh (like news stand, google sheets, google docs, google drive, etc). Some of these you may use so just disable what you don't use or rarely use.
3. Google photos backup only over wifi and when plugged in

I kept always on Ok Google because I utilize this throughout the day.

YMMV.

These things seem like the most "common sense" things to do to extend battery life (regardless of the phone)

Question: is swipe up from home button on Nexus devices now entirely gone? It's only hold for Google on Tap?

Well I thought I had wifi scanning off, checked and I did not. Bluetooth scanning can only be found in location and turned off from there (did not know about this one).

I didn't know about the additional sync features or that I could disable them so I didn't have that done.

The google photos backup I had just forgot to change. This along with wifi scanning I thought was off is because I had RMA my first 6p which I had done it with and didn't remember to do it to the second one I received. :)

Yes as far as I know. What I use is Nova Launcher. I set it to if I click the home button while on the home screen it goes to google now. If I am in an app I double tap it and it goes to google now. Now on tap still works if you hold down the home button.

Oh, that was not specifically meant for you! I just felt like all those steps were more common sense ones!

Argh. Again, I don't know why Google insists on removing features from stock Android.

haha it is fine. I figured that is what you meant and I agree. I was just explaining why those things was not changed on mine.

Also for persons who are use to iPhones and switching over, they may not know about these things.
