In fairness friday is a lot less of a wait than my frickin Apple Pencil now due 20th January !!!! :(

Waiting is a pain after youve commited to buy something indeed.
MRU...did you get your IPP yet? Did I miss your thoughts on it? I know for you it will be a great tool but ti won't be fully functional with the pencil for what you would use it for.

It arrived Monday but i didnt open it till Tuesday. Ive essentially set it up with my apps from my ipad air 2 and had a quick play. But really yes screen looks amazing, sound is great on the speakers, but for me without the pencil it is just a bigger ipad. Content and multitasking works better due to extra screen real estate and the keyboard works better due to extra space it affords on the bigger device. Apps like microsoft office work better on a bigger screen for same reasons. But yeah, its bitter sweet at the moment because I am not using it for the reason it was bought. And frankly i would not have bought it if there wasnt the apple pencil so the fact that I dont have that yet leaves me a little limbo opinion wise.

Its solid, well built, beautiful screen, but yeah without my pencil. Its just a bigger ipad. I wouldnt recommend it over the ipad Air 2 for people who just want a media consumption device.

The speakers on the 6P are simply amazing. It's been awhile since I had the M8 but the 6P speakers might be a little better.
The call quality is second to none. I am starting to get used to the fingerprint scanner on the back.

I'm completely spoiled by the call quality and speakers of this device. As well as battery life on Android. It's incredible.

For me, the two biggest hurdles the 6P must clear to beat the S6 are the camera and the size.

And the camera isn't just about photos. It's the camera experience too. I worry I will miss the S6/TouchWiz's camera app, which is fantastic. I fear I'll miss OIS not just for video recording but for less blurry stills during low-light or a lot of movement.

And the size is really self explanatory. I'll have to see what day to day with such a large device will really feel like. And if I can manage. I'm really quite put off by the size.

These two things will be instrumental in my decision to replace my beloved S6 or not. And to be perfectly honest, I don't think the 6P will win when it comes down to those two things. Time will tell. Google's large return window will give it the best chance it has.

Some other tidbits:

I think the screen will be interesting to compare, too. I love that the S6 can go super dim during bedtime use in the dark, and super bright during direct sunlight. Seriously, the S6 in direct sunlight is absolutely brilliant when you turn up the brightness all the way. Super useful. Can the 6P accomplish the same thing?

Software-wise, I think what will end up happening is the advantages/disadvantages of both will just cancel each other out. While I might lose some TW features that I like, I'll also gain some with stock Android in other ways. So this'll eventually balance out. You win some and you lose some. Initially, I was very worried about software, but now that I think about it, this is one area that won't make a huge impact swaying me one way or another.

I think I'll get over lack of wireless charging, too, but I'm also not fully ready to transition to USB C. It'll be sort of a pain to rebuy wires. But if the device is good enough, it'll be worth it. Plus, I'll probably gain battery-life advantage in day to day use since the 6P should last longer. Since both my wireless chargers are stands, I can theoretically still use them as just stands for the 6P.

Finger print - This'll be interesting, too, to see if I can adjust and then prefer the back reader instead of the front of the S6.

Gosh, I can't wait til Friday... Damn Fedex.

Reality ...

Auto brightness on 6P is not great, often takes a bit too long to adjust to different environments / lighting.

Outdoors it gets bright enough to view screen but isn't as bright as the SAMSUNG QHD devices this year.

Camera is very good but ..... it isn't as good as the Samsung devices and neither is the software.

If both of those are your 'key' important factors then you will likely be underwhelmed.

For me it's all about performance / speed and optimisation which the 6P has in spades. As well as quicker updates. They are my personal tick boxes that make it the better device for me, but If things like touchwiz being memory hungry and slower updates isn't a big deal for you, then I don't think there is enough to sway you to the nexus side :)

Yeah. It's not too early for me to guess the 6P won't make it. If it weren't for that extended return window, I probably wouldn't have pulled the trigger (a promo might have helped if there ever was one!).

But because of that extended window, I'm willing to give the 6P a fair chance. That's probably exactly what Google wants; put that device in people's hands to give it a chance to win them over. And it might. The strengths of the 6P might win me over. I might find TouchWiz unbearable after spending a week or so with stock! Who knows.

I will definitely report back. ;)

I'm gonna say not. You either like TouchWiz or you don't and you clearly do, so I reckon stock Android might drive you a bit mad at first like it did with me! (I also like TouchWiz).

If you've never used stock you might think that it's a little backwards as some stuff you'd expect to be there that Samsung builds in like dedicated gallery app etc is not if you use Google Play photos you're fine, but boy did I have an adjustment period with that!

I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts!
FWIW I have well and truly settled in with my close to stock Android on my One Plus X now and I really really like it I've made it work for me, which is the great thing about Android if you perseverance (as I'm sure you know already ha). But be good to read your comparisons against a device you love that although runs a data heavy skin is in my opinion the more complete and polished out the box.

Apologies for my dreadful grammar and nonsensical post in places above. Damn Samsung keypad on my Galaxy Tab S2 drives me insane sometimes.

If oversees shipping wasn't so expensive, I'd gladly pick one up locally (been appearing in stock on occasion at a couple of the Apple Stores in the area--and by 'in the area' I mean within 100 miles ;)) and send it to you MRU. I won't buy an iPP until I can also get a Pencil so maybe within a few days, since the stores now all have stock of both wifi models.

Thanks matey, but with Christmas shopping and the postal service it likely wouldn't arrive till January a way. I'm just going to have to be patient but every time I look at the iPad pro I do feel a little peeved right now lol :) first world problems

Not to rub salt in the wound but I've spent more time playing with the Pencil at my local Apple Store than could be considered 'browsing' and it really is pretty damn nice. My basis of comparison is a few days of Surface Pro 2 ownership, a month with a Note 10.1 (2014), and a few third party stylii (Adonit and Pencil by 53) and it seems to be every bit as good or better than any of them. I'm looking forward to hearing your perspective considering your experience and expertise.

Aghhh the salt !!!! But good to hear. I do wonder how it will compare to my wacom's which I use daily as I'm so used to their weight and such.

Back on topic has anyone got the 6.01 OTA update yet ?

And does it fix the notification pull down animation slowdown in Nova Launcher?

I haven't noticed any notification pull down animation slowdown on my 5X using Nova on 6.0. Still waiting for 6.01.

Not if you pull down from the top as normal, but of you use the nova gesture to pull down it does it in slow mo and a message from Nova developers pops up to tell you its a known bug in marshmallow and they are waiting for Google to fix.

Nova official comment 'This is a bug in the Android 6.0 system framework, it is not something Nova has control over.

A bug report has been filed with Google and I’m continuing to look into work arounds (a root one is coming)

Please star (and do NOT comment) the issue in AOSP

Another thing for me to consider when deciding between the 6p and the s6 is when my s6 will get marshmallow. It's supposed to come in January, but when in January and when specifically for tmoble?

Coincidentally, the return window for the 6p ends toward late January. Will I have the chance to test marshmallow on my s6 before I have to return the 6p? Unlikely.

But will my s6 running marshmallow shortly after getting the 6p negate some of the 6p's advantages and its chance at winning me over? That's the interesting question to ponder. In about a month (maybe a bit more) I'll also have marshmallow features on my s6, like doze. Likely even performance improvements. Will my s6 experience improve?

Will sacrificing the camera and screen advantages of the s6 for the advantages of stock android be negated in about a month's time?

Hm.

Edit: I guess I also have to consider how well optimized they'll make the marshmallow update for the s6. No guarantee it'll solve all of touchwiz's current woes.
