It would be cool if there was a setting that when you double clicked the home button, at the home screen, it just went straight to the Camera App.

Actually you used to be able to do that, in 3.0:

Remember that it's a lock screen, designed to prevent accidental input when the phone is in your pocket or bag or wherever. If the button is already on the screen, the camera might be opened accidentally. The same problem occurs if it only takes one click to show the button.

A double click really isn't tough to do at all. The camera icon shows up at the bottom of the screen, in a natural arch for your thumb to tap. You don't even have to press the power button first.

I think there's a bug. If I bypass the lock screen to take a picture, sometimes hitting the home button again gets me to the home screen without a password. I'm sure this possible security bug will be at the top of Apple's fix list. :p

Do you have a passcode lock set, if so do you have a time limit set when it requires the password?

I have mine set to require a passcode after 15 minutes. If im in the windows of time where a passcode is not required, I can double click into the camera app and hit the home button and be taken to the home screen without needing to slide to unlock. If my phone is locked by passcode, hitting the home button after going into the camera app returns me to the lock screen and prompts for the passcode.

Double clicking is no pain, but it would have been nice to have the camera option somewhere on the lock screen with only one click.

Easy way to get around OP's problem...Set it to not sleep the screen automatically, and already have your camera app going when the game starts.

Obviously you can change the sleep screen setting back to normal after the game.

Pssst. Apple. Pssst. It's a camera.

Eh, no, it's not.

So it's a camera with a phone?!? I thought it was a Phone with a camera.

Technically I guess you're right but I'm very impressed with the pictures I get with my iPhone 4 so I don't bother with lugging another camera along most of the time. I also have a DSLR and a point and shoot digicam. They both sit at home on the buffet in the dining room. The best camera I own is the one I happen to have with me when I see something I want a picture of. That happens to be my iPhone. So for my usage pattern it's more like a camera with a phone. I have almost a dozen camera apps for low light and various effects so it's a very nice camera with a phone.

It's really not Apple's fault my IT guys require me to enter the first 953 characters of the pledge of allegiance to unlock my iPhone. But I am disappointed that you have to double click the home button to get to the camera.

I later found you could double click if you were on the lock screen to toggle the camera on and off. I didn't realize this. So if you forget to double click and are staring at the lock screen, simply double click again to get the ipod and the camera icon. Double click one more time to get back to the normal lock screen.

I think I see now why they did this. The normal lock screen is less "cluttered" and after "a while" ppl will probably get used to double clicking.

First post, OP has a doubt about how to activate camera on lock screen.

Second post, a friend tell him how to do it.

Done.

I have doubled clicked the home button

Let me emphasize that I have double clicked the home button. I get the music play buttons on the top of the screen but no camera icon on the lower right. No other problems that I know of from the iOS 5 update. Thanks for your help.

Any idea if I can change the camera default for this to Camera+? I bought the Camera+ app since it's beefier than the original Apple camera app.
