I held off upgrading my M2 11" and my M1 12.9" to see what was announced and figure out if things like the extra memory/core in the 1TB would be worth it. Seeing nothing groundbreaking announced at all as far as usability or groundbreaking new features requiring extra horsepower, I may just upgrade the M1 12.9 to a base model M4 13" and stick with the M2 11".
Curious what you do with 2 iPads 2 inches apart. What does one do that the other can’t?

To be honest, it is also the apps themselves - e.g. iPadOS outlook has a lot of unpleasant restrictions, you won‘t find in the MacOS version.
Any specific examples? Trying to find out what I’m missing.

I was clinging to that slim hope—maybe that 0.01% chance—that Apple would announce an option for iPad Pro users to boot into macOS or use it in some capacity. But once again, I'm disappointed. It's baffling that Apple charges the equivalent of a mid-range MacBook Air or MacBook Pro for an iPad Pro, which offers significantly less functionality for power users and multitaskers.

The hardware continues to outpace the software on these devices and I still don't understand what Apple is trying to achieve with this class of device. Insane. Frankly insane....

Apple behaving kinda like Google in this regard where it shows that they don't have any idea of what to do with the iPad Pro.
Can’t you remote in to your laptop or desktop Mac if it’s at home and you are on your iPad?

Not yet, maybe. But they really are opening all this up to third-party developers so extensively it will make Apple platforms the best place to create incredible new AI experiences.
Agreed. And some of the things they previewed with Apple Intelligence could be absolutely revolutionary for multitasking. 👍🏻

throughout this post, we pointed to many things that keep it from being a logical prosumer only computer. NOT MACOS. a computer. it's not our fault you choose to ignore it. glad your daughter enjoys her ipad.

By the way feel free to also not respond to this topic. What's more cringey? people on macrumors tlaking about being disappointed that their favorite company didn't do much for iPad OS? Or coming into a topic thinking they know better than others and talk down on them?

Oh by the way, expecting apple to announce something for ipadOS on WWDC is literally what every tech person in the industry was expecting. look up any ipad review. look up most commentary on ipad os post WWDC. Acting like this is some forum-specific complaining is just largely ignorant.
Nope. Just a big fat nope. “We pointed”. Yeah totally because what a sample size to draw from huh? Surely nobody in the iPad forums or iPad Reddit or anywhere else can possibly use their iPad as their main computer. Oh right. They do. People do. People have for years. This exaggerating that iPad is a toy that’s completely useless for anybody without a MacBook to pair it with is just plain false.

People have different needs. For whatever freaking reason, the people that have a negativity bias always love posting here and circle jerking with other salty people about how pointless iPad is for THEM and make it apply to everyone.

Criticism is fine. Wanting more features is fine. We all want that. Framing iPad as a completely useless device that can’t do anything for anybody or be a main computer for people? Even pulling out the “what’s a computer” ad as if to say it couldn’t be anybody’s main computer? Yeah. Same silliness we’ve seen on the forums for more than a decade.

“It can’t do x? Not a real computer!” Never heard that one.

Apparently people were disappointed with the Mac portion as well so I guess nobody can ever be happy.

People just don’t have an imagination. Their world view is the only one that exists.

Blown up iPhone app 😂 years of working on it and nothing, can't use a floating calculator window in notes or anything.
What is the reason on these forums that people insist on ignoring new features? Math notes alone is completely new, the calculator app is just the showcase for it.

You may not *care* about it, which is fine, but MR year over year is becoming just a cesspool of “hot takes” that are just factually wrong and nobody seems to care.

I use my 11” for media consumption and my 12.9 with MKB as a laptop replacement. The 11” gets used more. I’d love to settle on one but I have big hands and its just too cramped to type on an 11” MKB for me.

Apple is mostly just about extracting rents now

They are out of any good new ideas of their own
Idk, there’s about to be millions of *regular* people who are going to be introduced to useful “AI” in a way that doesn’t require being a query nerd.

Makes me think that the Meta’s, Microsoft’s, etc are going to be reworking the UX for their offerings over the next year 🤷‍♂️

I don’t care at all about ChatGPT, but if my phone can organize the plans I’ve made in passing on my text messages that will actually be useful to me.

Apple introduced a ton of quality of life features with their “AI” yesterday that is going to be used by millions of people who don’t know or care that it’s “AI”.

Anyways my position here holds true for another year. The best iPad is the cheapest one you can get…full stop. I won’t care about iPad until Apple shows even a little effort. Will continue using my iPad Pro 10.5 as a multimedia/browsing device with no need/desire to upgrade.

This is it folks….this right here ^^^

iPad OS was such a dud and disappointment. A few Home Screen and control center hand me downs from iOS, and minimal improvements to individual apps. This is basically a nothing burger and insulting to the people that shelled out big bucks for M4.

I mean, depends on what you use it for.

I shelled out big bucks for the M4 and I don't feel insulted. I knew what I was getting, and I didn't buy it on some wild expectation from an unannounced OS.

So glad I dipped on this FOMO , imagine owning an m4 ipad pro and to still have no real usage for it or a real OS for that matter.

When are you people gonna learn ? :)

Maybe we people have already learned how to fit the iPad Pro into our workflows, and we don't need any such "real OS" you speak of? The hardware is amazing though, so I can understand why you are frustrated it doesn't fit your needs on the software side.

I’ve used both. But just one at a time. I prefer the bigger screen for my eyes, but the 11 inch is so portable. I move around a lot during the day, I’m a principal of a school so I’m in and out of classrooms almost daily. Try to get to 10 classes a day. And if I need bigger space I jump on my Mac mini/studio display.

This. I understand the frustration but it’s not the paperweight some people make it out to be.

This is my use case as well. I am a Middle School Asst. Principal and would love a more portable setup for evals, etc vs my HP laptop that my district provided that is just so cumbersome.
I have been leaning 11" but I am a big guy and struggle a touch typing on the MKB for the 11".

My plan is to prob buy the 11" tonight and use it a bit and decide before the 14 day window closes as I'm leaving for the East Coast trip and could play with it on the long bus ride. Also looking for the Back to School promo that hasn't dropped yet so will prob return it to get the promo.

It's not at all. People are just frustrated because of what it could be. If you can live with the limitations of iPadOS in your workflow, then you are set. But there are a few big pain points that could make it so much more useful without ruining the experience of the iPad.
