I use it daily. I like my phone in landscape in my car mount for a nicer navigation view. There's a reason all those old Garmin GPS units were landscape mode. Still too many apps in the store that don't do landscape though, including the iOS music app.

Do you mean the actual home screen? Because Maps/Google Maps works in landscape on any iPhone.

I can see using it in the car as a GPS type set up when in landscape, but for me it's just mad annoying. And you can always have your GPS app in landscape after you open it.

My homescreen is always sideways when I don't want it to be and it takes a second to readjust since I have to tilt the phone all which ways just to get it back into portrait. I'm glad that it's gone.

almost everything can be seen in landscape on every iPhone, except the homescreen which is solely for the Plus.

Personally I don't care about landscape homescreen, it is more annoying to me than anything (As I don't want landscape homescreen, but I also don't want to enable/disable rotation lock all the time just to stop it.)

The bigger issue I heard was that the phone doesn't identify like the Plus in landscape, inside of apps. Meaning an app like Mail shows a single column layout, and not the split panes like it does on the plus. That is really stupid if true.

I have tried it on iOS11 GM on XCode 9 GM iPhone X. -->

no landscape posssible on home screen, settings app, reminder app

Also when the home screen is not rotated while it is in the car mount, the swipe for control center is not functionally rotated as well meaning you have to swipe from one of the sides instead of the "bottom" of the screen. More annoyingness.

Maybe in portrait mode, but the X is definitely "taller" and wider when in landscape mode. Sad, thanks for the answer.

I think you mean the opposite.

It's wider in landscape, taller in portrait. It's definitely not as tall in landscape (for example, the tab bar in safari is not shown, apps do not have the expanded landscape view, etc.)

I tried the maps and messages app on iPhone X. Both apos supports landscape mode.
Many apps support landscape, yeah, but it's the size classes that matter.

In landscape the iPhone 6/6s/7/8 Plus use the "Regular" size class for the device width but the iPhone X uses the "Compact" size class hence the bigger display. I think that's because it effectively has lesser space because of the "Home indicator" at the bottom in landscape as well.

That's a real kick in the nuts, thank you for the info. I was hoping Apple would carry this feature forward with newer (increasingly larger) iPhone models, particularly when considering the iPad Mini might be getting the axe.

I cannot replace the iPad Mini with a large-screen phone that doesn't properly support landscape orientation.

Wait whaat? Since it's taller, it would be even wider in landscape mode.
In Mail.app, this wider display would be perfect to show both the mailboxes and an email.
Instead it will just show one single email?

That's ********, re-thinking of staying with my 7+ now.
