I see a majority on here seemed to think that this feature was not important. For me, I use it a lot, especially when typing. I also use it when I use the Kenu air frame car mount (I have an older car, so that is my GPS / music player). Yes I can use portrait, but prefer landscape.

Agree, I used my 7plus for navigation and thought the big daddy of all phones should have this feature. I’ll bet some will wait to purchase the x if they knew this

I think there were a lot of empty promises when the 6 Plus first came out, about software being optimized for the larger screen and being able to do more with the real estate, especially in landscape mode. A lot of features either never materialized, or we were given what seemed like a stopgap, only to realize several years down the line that it wasn't going to get any better. So I say good riddance to landscape home screen mode, which was more annoying than it was useful when I wanted apps to still be able to detect the orientation of the phone. Loving the way the software is laid out on the iPhone X.

In a way this is the 6 Plus again, this being the first year of the new design and all. I'm sure in time it'll improve just like previous generations have.

You are such an amazing pollster, going around talking to 99% of all iPhone users. Amazing. You should be sorry for trying to pawn off your own opinion as fact. But hey, those are the times we live in, so it must be aok.

beware. they CAN produce statistical documents that prove the numbers. i saw it in one of the threads.. it was something like 10%-20% landscape usage. anyway not 99% portrait for sure.

Personally I don't care about landscape homescreen, it is more annoying to me than anything (As I don't want landscape homescreen, but I also don't want to enable/disable rotation lock all the time just to stop it.)

The bigger issue I heard was that the phone doesn't identify like the Plus in landscape, inside of apps. Meaning an app like Mail shows a single column layout, and not the split panes like it does on the plus. That is really stupid if true.
That is true.... on iPhone X the Mail app in landscape is a single column, not as on iPhone 7 Plus

Thank god

That "feature" is one of the main reasons I could never buy a plus iPhone. Would hate to see it spread.

For those of you thinking about complaining, WE complained for 3 years about making it optional on the plus and that never happened. So good freaking luck.

Went from an iPhone 6 regular size to iPhone X. I would have used landscape mode at my desk while it is charging and can see notifications. Portrait mode doesn't work since the cable prevents it from being propped up and doesn't rotate all the way when upside down.

A wired/wireless stand would solve that problem.

Not so sure of that. Looks like a design consideration to me. The X is a portrait orientation focused device. I think this is intentional. Apple needs people to get used to the new gestures that replace the home button. Dialing the phone for portrait enforces the location of the virtual button at the bottom of the screen, just as the hardware button was only on the bottom (obviously). I’d expect Apple to roll out landscape home screen mode on an X Plus first (more portrait focused) and then roll it out on the standard sized X via software update.

Well, I still think the iPhone X screen is clearly big enough to have a two column landscape mode for native apps, especially as it's wider than my Plus screen in landscape mode.

However, a landscape home screen mode not so much, since when rotated the icon labels wold cut the display down to 3 rows of 6 icons instead of 4 rows of 6 icons. This part I can understand them not including.

I always thought that landscape reordering the icons made no sense. Why don’t they jus tilt over? Why do they have to be reordered?

Anyway I don’t miss this at all. I have my ohoke in landscape in the car too and I can easily make sense of sideways text. I honestly find it worse when they’re reordered in the Plus. It’s like I need to memorize the order in Two different orientations.

All apps that work in landscape.

Yes they do work in landscape. Just not the same as they do on a plus, maybe you’ve never used a plus to realize that iOS apps behaved more like an iPad on a plus.

Which is why the X is more of a bigger 8 then a smaller 8 plus.

I traded my plus in for my X, so I’m not going back but I do miss not having 2 column mail and messages which the X should be able to do. Also miss the tabs in safari, but understand the X doesn’t have the height in landscape to handle that.

I guess all this will be solved next year when we hopefully get a plus size of the X

I use it daily. I like my phone in landscape in my car mount for a nicer navigation view. There's a reason all those old Garmin GPS units were landscape mode. Still too many apps in the store that don't do landscape though, including the iOS music app.

I will simply say this.. I never thought I would need it either until I tried connecting to my APPLE TV on the big screen. By not rotating on the home screen means the big tv I have becomes useless because the home screen wont rotate.

I might keep sending Apple feedback on adding landscape mode on the X since the wider screen can support 2-column mode.

Even if the text couldn't rotate on the home screen because it's not wide enough to keep the 6x4 icon pattern, I'd like to see the icons rotate, and maybe the text could stay on the side of the icon but rotate and switch to read from top to bottom

This is something Apple needs to fix in software update phone is wide enough in landscape to allow apps to rotate into 2 column mode.

I don’t care that the home screen doesn’t rotate, actually may rather it not, but the app need to.

Only people who have really used the plus phones can relate.
