Shocking treatment of Pro users by Apple.

Hmmm...Hackintosh or HPz840o_O

Custom Build PC, based on X99 Broadwell E. There's no point having a Hackintosh as Apple could ruin your day with an update at any time - lets face it, it's and unsupported platform. If you are thinking of a Hackintosh then your budget probably isn't in Z840 territory, not a new one anyway. X99 supports Broadwell E (up to 10 cores) and Xeon if you feel that way inclined with up to 22 cores and it costs less than a Mac Pro for a good build. RAM limit is 128GB.

The sticking point to that is will Apple be willing to support all that hardware? At this point, I think the idea has merit but I don't think Apple will see it that way unfortunately

It looks like apple has lost their way when it comes to the Mac! The Mac line up is in a sad state, and this new Macbook pro is anything but a pro laptop.

I have been using Mac's for a very long time and it seems like that road is sadly coming to an end!
There's an emoji for that!

I really don't know what that means, but if he was serious that the current line-up is their best line-up yet, then I honestly think he's insane, as the iMacs are quite old and even if the Mac Pro and mini are being abandoned I would expect there'd be some people wanting new iMacs this year. Maybe it's naive, but I think there's going to be at least another announcement coming next month of at least something.

It means the same as when he says "the best iphone they ever made"...Its just nonsense mumbo jumbo. If they ever release something worse than the prior model, they have completely failed. and the current line up is more powerful than what it was before, hense the best lineup they ever had. Even if they only release a new phone next year, it will still be their best lineup they ever had ;)

Current HP Z840 and Dell Precision 7910 support RAM maximum of 1TB for the dual CPU. I currently use 128GB of RAM. Yeah, 32GB is the minimum for pro work, it seems.

It is strange that the Mac Pro hasn't been upgraded. In the past every line was updated at least on a yearly bases.
it doesn't seem that much R&D would needed to upgrade the insides. I am still using a old 2008 loaded up Mac pro
with the old 30 '' display. I do have a high end ssd inside on a PCI card and amazingly it still holds its own including video editing. However now that the latest os x isn't supported I really want to upgrade? At least Apple if you are not going to support older machines give us something new to buy

Seems like there's no bridge for Apple pro users.)
Yep, Tim is taking Apple for a long walk off a short pier. Guess there are a lot of life preservers at HQ with the apple logo on them:D

Guess that makes Tim the Martha Stewart of the tech world. Only uses/has the very best of everything in his products

I could be looking to far into everything, but did anyone else notice that when they showed their Mac lineup the Pro and the Mini were missing? They included the iMac even though they didn't talk about it.

Didn't notice that, but totally unsurprising. Even the Apple stores don't have Mac Pros on display (and there's plenty of room in the ones around here (Houston, TX)).

Feel free to upgrade to Windows 10 or a current version of Linux. It's ironic the only OS which takes effort to install on this system is the one made by the company which built this system.

There are some very successful and very powerful X99 based hackintosh builds out there too, so possible to have it both ways. Most pros and shops are very anal about updating their OS. When something is not broke, you don't fix it. So a good stable hack can potentially last you a long while, at least until you are ready to upgrade again. I have no doubt that Apple will eventually break hackintoshing, not directly but organically via the addition of things like the Touch Bar, little proprietary co-processors and secure enclaves that the OS will eventually rely on to function. Luckily, that is a ways away yet. Apple released a new Mac today that doesn't have any of that, so we're probably safe for 2 - 3 more major OS releases. Even if macOS 10.13 broke hackintoshing for good, you could certainly get by for a time without having to upgrade, and/or dual boot Windows as you transition.
