Arrived at my doorstep 1 week ago. It's a fun gadget (I wouldn't call it a computer), but this is unacceptable. A second-rate OS until November???

Eating my 10% restocking fee and getting my $$$ back.

Sorry Apple, maybe next revolution.

Why not wait till November and not swallow the restocking fee and in the mean time still have an iPad?

And someone promised it to you sooner before you bought it?

Wait, when is fall again?

Oh right, it's in Novermber!

No one said it was coming out earlier, who was of any recognition to Apple anyway.

You knew it wasn't coming out until the Fall before you bought the iPad.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. If you already bought it, return it.

Move along, just another troll going on here.

It does feel like they are not taking the iPad as serious as their other products. 4.0 will have been out 5 months when it comes to iPad. Seems a bit ridiculous to me. There are already iphone apps that I have that have been updated to the point of being 4.0 only.

What the hell Steve? 5 Months between iPhone/iPod update and iPad?

I'm sad that it will be a simple "copy" of the iPhone version. Same folders and multitasking interface, no special feature for that big screen.

Me to, everything looks stretched out - they could have added widgets / gadgets and expose multitasking.

and I'm also disappointed at the iTouch at no 3 mega pixel camera - just a 720p - 0.7 megapixel camera.

who cares. i dont see anything in 4.2 that would make me want to give up my 3.2.1 jailbreak functionality.

Agreed. Although I DO want printing, I would not even THINK of upgrading until Jailbreak is out.

Such a joke. After using the iPhone 4 for the last two months and the multitasking, it's absolutely painful to fire up my iPad and try to get anything done beyond checking my email or reading a book. Totally ridiculous that Apple could not have developed multitasking for the iPad when it rolled out and even worse that they are able to get this done for their other devices no problem but the iPad delayed until November?

Actually, fall starts in a few weeks, so it's also in September and October as well. November is pushing winter.

But still seems like an overreaction to return it because it's late fall instead of early fall.

You cannot be serious. Get a life!

iOS 3.2 is great and the difference to iOS 4 isn't that big...I can certainly wait till November.

I'm sorry but do those that are kvetching have ANY idea of what's involved in developing just basic software let alone an OS? Yes, the iPad is based on iOS but it is ultimately its own environment with its own hardware, its own problems and most importantly requires its own optimisations. Every built in app is different in some way shape or form to its iPhone / iPod Touch equivalent and that means EVERYTHING has to be tested as if it were a brand new product. Add on to that the need to get real world feedback on a new class of device for the company and incorporate that feedback into the development program and Apple's doing pretty damn well to get iOS 4 out for the iPad at all let alone so quickly and on target. Anyone who was seriously expecting it to be launched today was optimistic to the point of naivety.

Honestly, I knew as soon as Jobs said November that there'd be people bitching about it (despite this being within their initial timeframe) but frankly I'm quite happy with it. 4.1 comes out next week and is clearly a feature release. 4.2 will be the bug fix release (along with a few relatively minor features) and by waiting until 4.2 to unify the codebase we should receive a pretty stable release. Yes, I use an iPhone 4 daily so am used to multitasking and while it will be nice to have those features on my iPad it's hardly a deal breaker (if they were then you shouldn't have bought the damn thing until they were in place).

Add on to that the addition of wireless printing (a feature that's new to the iOS platform as a whole and something that's notoriously tricky to get right) and whatever minor tweaks the iPad will get as a result of six months of real world feedback and I'm more than happy to wait until November. It doesn't affect my daily use of the iPad in any way, it still works just as well as it did when I got it back in May and it's still by far and away the most enjoyable computing experience I have day in, day out.

You sap. Apple r selling ipads like hot cakes. Why would they want to give you software upgrade like backgrounding, folders etc. They don't make money on that.

Clearly they want to sell the features that make money on iPad users in 4.2 and that's why there is a delay.

You people thing apple is about technology for end usersb it's about $$$$

Spare me the B.S. Apple only said "fall" for iOS 4 on iPad. Last time I looked November was in the fall.

I guess I'd understand this better if it were in english. What on earth are you saying? Apple will release it when it's ready and they have said multiple times it will be free for iPad owners.

Does this mean you are not coming back too, or do you need something else to complain about considering the November date is nothing new.

Well English is my language. I typed in short hand be causing I am typing on a software iPad keyboard so I'm not exactly anti-apple.

Yes. If u need it spelt out. The software will be free but it will only be available once there are the new features to make money in iOS not when the free features like backgrounding is coded.

Obviously:p:p apple care about $$$ not end users experience unless they are in conflict.
