Windows phones work very well and are fast. Just the lack of apps is their problem and they are soo slow to update anything.

A 6" phone for me is just too big though. Hec im thinking the GS5 being a bit bigger than my Nexus 5 might be too big but i am going to check one out.

The lack of updates from Microsoft, Nokia and developers was true and still is to an extent, but I have seen a flurry of updates since the 8.1 update.
Windows Phone now has 250,000 apps in the store (100,000 more since this time last year.) It's definitely getting better than it had been in the past.

A few odd snaps with the 1520 in 16:9 rather than 4:3 and the smaller sharing size rather than full sized image as they're too big each to attach.

Nice! You should post one of those over in the M8 thread to forever end that discussion about the value of more MPs...

I got it! Got the Lumia 1520 from CL today for $275. It came with a case, charger and an extra braided USB cable.... Installed W8P 8.1...but now i have a lot of work to do! It is a big phone but not too big so far.....But man those corners are sharp......
More to come after i get aquatinted with WP8.....can't wait to try Cortana....

Slow to update what ? Surely every wp 8 device received much more updates in the last year than any droid (Amber, black, WP 8.1 so far ...).
The lack of apps is relative: how many apps do you need on your smartphone? I'm happy with about 20 apps on mine (maybe less) and there are more than 200k in the store.
I know, there is a lot of trashware like in any market, but would we consider 1 good app every 100 ? It is 2000 good apps ... and I doubt you are going to install more than 200.
Those are just raw numbers, to demonstrate that the lack of apps is an exaggerated myth.
I agree that there is a lack of some kind of specific apps, but I think it will be solved over the time.

Thanks Everyone! Still getting used to the UI layout. But liking it so far. The UI is very fast and smooth....very well laid out and intuitive. So far I have found every major app i need is in the Windows Store. I even found Zedge....didn't think that one would be there. Just feeling my way around trying to get pictures automatically uploaded to Dropbox...can't seem to get it to do that yet. But going to make this my daily driver....this way i will be sure to get acclimated! :) I was able to sync with my macbook pro and get all my music and videos on the 1520. Going to test the camera later today.......

The only app that I'm missing is the Disney one I mentioned in another thread.

The iOS/Android Disney experience app allows you to manage every segment of your vacation, from dinner reservations to fastpass +. The wp8 app only has wait times. I'm hoping by the time I head to DisneyWorld later this year that omission will be rectified.

I'm missing my home banking app on my Lumia (it exists only in iOS).
That and the lack of a proper YouTube stand alone app are the only complains I have about Wp.

As you can see in my signature I have two phones (iPhone 5s and Lumia 925) but surely I can't afford two flagships without having my wife killing me (I also have two tablets).

Well many of us here are to paying full whack for the device, and often buying and reselling / trading up so yeah were all in the same boat when it comes to paying the bills.

The 925 still sells at nearly €300 here on Amazon for example, when you consider I paid €350 for my M8 & my GS4 to be repaired (new sim reader tray) it's not that were being overly extravagant. I'm sure Jamezr wouldn't have jumped onto the 1520 ship if he had to spend full retail price for it. But when it's 'a bargain' it's hard not to bite the bullet.... just hide the expense from the wife or take her for a nice meal unannounced (to soften the blow) :p

Shoes are to women, as electronics are to men.

That's my argument with my wife and why my signature has what it has. :D

I don't buy subsidized phones because I hate to be tied with any carrier, so I paid 729€ for the iPhone in December and 289€ for the Lumia in February ....
But where did you buy an HTC One M8 for 350€ ?!? Big deal!!!!

Local independent phone shop / repair shop... I've posted about it on couple other threads. It was €529 (which was still €100 cheaper than vodafone / o2 / three stores) and when I asked how much they would give it to me if I traded my GPE S4 they said they wouldn't do the trade but would offer me a good price... I bit their hand off when they said €350... (and that price included them repairing my GS4 when I bent the sim tray pins with the nanosim-microsim adapter)

I think 350€ is about the cost price for a dealer ... You were very lucky.
Out of curiosity, do you know why they sold you at 350€ something they were selling at 529€ ? Was it a refurbished unit ?

^ It was new, someone just traded in their unwanted O2 upgrade ... They had the plan, they got the phone as a freebie and so made a couple hundred euro out of it in the process.

Only thing is it is locked to O2 and I'm with vodafone.

I rang O2 and they are more than happy to give me the unlock code, however they don't have it on their database as its a new phone, so they have requested it from HTC and will forward me it as soon as they receive it from HTC (takes 4 - 14 days) So at the moment I can't use it for my daily driver, and I could be waiting up to another week for the code. But for that little hassle considering the price it seems worth dealing with.

I keep going back to my Lumia 620, which is the lowest end WP8 I own. But I love the small size - it's about the size of a 4s, with the screen size of a 5. So I say go with the 1020 :p
