Sigh, whatever. Its a Nokia product, so I'm sure it'll cost around $600-up for it, which means a lot of people aren't going to buy it.

Not trying to be rude, but have you ever heard of "unlocked phones are more expensive?" An unlocked iPhone would cost about $700-$900, AFAIK. Don't take my word for it, though.

Nokia N900 Tablet With Maemo 5 To Be Released Soon

Finally a maemo phone! I want to see what apple will offer to compete with this beast.

BTW maemo is based on Debian GNU/Linux and draws much of its GUI, frameworks, and libraries from the GNOME project. It uses the Matchbox window manager, and the GTK-based Hildon as its GUI and application framework. So expect to be able to use linux apps on this.

There is no such thing as an Iphone killer. There are only newer designs, newer features newer technology, etc. If you go on say Treocentral, there are poster killers ranting about the next phone to kill palm's devices. I am not a fanboy of any company. I have Blackberry, a Treo and now an Iphone. The Iphone is the only Apple product I own. However for me, this is the best phone I have owned so far. Why? Form factor. Every time I see Iphone killer, the phone is large. Why does the phone have to be a brick? To me this is poor design. Phone technology should become more compact. IMO, in order for a phone to be an "Iphone" killer it needs to be simailar in size and have way more features. Look at everything an iphone can do without the 3.0 upgrade. And why after two years are people still looking for an iphone killer? Go buy the nokia brick and when you get tired of the cumbersome size and come back to iphone, tell us how you like the nokia.

There's so many reasons this won't kill the iPhone. But I'll just list one:

T-Mobile

agreed. i would likely have a G1 if the 3G coverage with t-mo was in my area. also disappointing that the 3G network is on a different freq. than AT&T so unlocked t-mo phones will not connect to the 3G network if my understanding is correct.

The Pre is the only device that can be considered a iPhone killer, but killer is such a misleading word. Nothing is going to "kill" the iPhone. The Pre is going to be the first real competitor.

like above. i think that one thing that is going to hurt the pre sales is Sprint. They are becoming a better carrier, but years of terrible customer service has left a bad taste in my mouth. a pre on vzw or at&t would be a much larger threat to apple

What is a Zeizz lens? Is this a chinese knock-off version of Zeiss?

Heh I guess it must be :)

To be completely honest, it really doesn't make any difference what type of lens is on an iPhone if that's what people have said. Sony made the same mistake of advertising the fact that their little, pocket-sized cameras came with Carl Zeiss lenses, and to be fair it makes no difference at all unless you have a really good-sized lens and a decent CCD behind it.

Well, you are 90% right. But a lens always matters. The coatings, refractive index, and all that allows for a lens to be more robust and collect more light (better pictures).

So they said with the N95, the Instinct, the Voyager, and the list could go on and on and on......

I am getting rid of my Nokia N95 for the new Iphone.

It is all about the software and user experience.

Wow that looks nice although I bet it will cost a boat load. I was at best buy the other day and shocked to see them selling the nokia n95 for $899.99. Who in there right mind would pay that much for a phone.

In most cases, phones will not "kill" eachother. More competition does not mean one has to fail. Look at McDonalds, Burger King and Wendy's.

More competition can just make the smartphone market bigger (like it has). Smartphones can live in harmony. Pleace, love and happiness.

By the way, that is a tablet. Have fun putting that in your pocket/purse.

And thus this reminds us that no matter how "uh-n-ahs" and how much the phone is going to kill the iPhone, what in the end matters is the en-user experience and software, something other phones lack and the iPhone has.

before, people wouldn't buy the iPhone because it was overpriced. Now it's at a wonderful 100 dollars. I would love to see what the cost of that thing is, the N95, last time I checked, was around 700 dollars. How much will this cost? I would be willing to bet, at least 800, 500 subsidized.

It won't come anywhere near being an iPhone killer. In fact, until someone makes an amazing progress in the cellular phone market, there isn't going to be an iPhone killer, just the same as there has never been, and probably will never be an iPod killer.

Apple has way to much marketshare to be taken down so easily.

lol, nokia has the biggest share.

Cool, so it's 37% bigger than the iPhone 3G S and the iPhone is already quite large for an phone.

Umm the iphone is anorexic and the battery life suffers because of this. I'd rather have a proper battery if I had the choice. if you are too weak to carry 180 grams then I don't know what to tell you

Because this device has anything to do with Microsoft right? Also the special thing about this device IS the software. Maemo is probably the most powerful and versatile mobile OS out there.

Hence "mobile OS"... The iPhone OS is based on OS X, so i'd say that's a whole lot more advanced.

The iPhone is so successful because of OS X and the SDK.... The only other platform that comes close is Android (that too is based on a desktop OS).

The only iPhone killer I see is a ZuneHD Phone (not announced, pure speculation) which if were to exist would be based on Nvidia Tegra.

no phone will "kill" the iphone. its not just going to magically take away all the iphone users, especially if its on another network.

also- for any phone to be "better" than the iphone would need to be able to add as many apps as itunes currently holds cause as of right now the apps are the dealbreaker when it comes to fights such as iphone vs pre...for example.

p.s. lol at all the pissed Pre owners whose batteries last 5hrs on stand by
