no phone will "kill" the iphone. its not just going to magically take away all the iphone users, especially if its on another network.

also- for any phone to be "better" than the iphone would need to be able to add as many apps as itunes currently holds cause as of right now the apps are the dealbreaker when it comes to fights such as iphone vs pre...for example.

p.s. lol at all the pissed Pre owners whose batteries last 5hrs on stand by

Hard to say there.... I mean 90% of the Apps are garbage anyway.

lol, nokia has the biggest share.

Umm the iphone is anorexic and the battery life suffers because of this. I'd rather have a proper battery if I had the choice. if you are too weak to carry 180 grams then I don't know what to tell you

In cell phones, or smartphones? They make a bunch of crappy cheap phones, and then they make a bunch of highly expensive smartphones, or pda's. If your talking all around, sure, the marketshare is bigger. If your talking Smartphones, I doubt it.

if the phone has something like the App Store, then we can start talking. Otherwise, NEXT!

it has a maemo repository with linux applications meaning they are free. linux has way more apps than the app store does btw.

You really think the Nokia will get better battery life. It's a UMID, it will get 3-4 hours tops!

I actually would like to see the iPhone a little thinner, so I disagree with your point about it being anorexic. You will see that this Nokia will fail, end of story.

fact of the matter is that the majority of iPhone owners have one because it's by Apple.

hell no i have an iphone because i wanted an ipod touch with a phone built it iphone and ipod touch are the only apple products ill ever buy, rest of apple as far as im concerened is not my forté

Why, after 20 other iPhone Killers are their still 'iPhone Killers' being made?

Shouldn't these be 'iPhone Killer Killers'?

The only iPhone killer out right now is AT&T.

:D You have no idea how hard I was laughing when I saw that. :D They're the whole reason I don't have one now.

That Nokia looks neat and all but it doesn't run all those fancy apps that make iPhones and iPod touches sell like mad.

IMO my HTC Hermes is better than the iPhone for what I use it for.

The iPhone is a pretty cool toy, but I prefer to have a hardware keyboard, custom ROMS, 3rd party apps out of the box, bluetooth OBEX etc.

All this despite the fact that Apple > Microsoft, in fact, I hate Windows (although Win7 looks like it might be half decent).

And someone is going to re-engineer them for the Maemo platform?

The reason that the iPhone is doing well is that it is not running a desktop UI on a mobile device. It has a new UI designed especially for the touchscreen.

That success rests on a formula...

OS X - Unix core - which supports....
Cocoa - Object based software development which rests upon...
Standardised UI components built for the iPhone.. Which are rendered by
Hardware GPU.. which does all the heavy lifting.

Both Maemo and Android are missing significant chunks of this formula.
That does not kill them as platforms, but it does put them at a disadvantage compared to Apple.

Just an update. And while it won't be an iPhone "killer" (because having a full desktop in your pocket is not what the masses want) it will be a contender for my next phone. I was thinking of going all Android-ish, but this phone sparks my interest. I'll have to play with it when it comes out :D

Nokia N900 Tablet With Maemo 5 To Be Released Soon
Finally a maemo phone! I want to see what apple will offer to compete with this beast.

BTW maemo is based on Debian GNU/Linux and draws much of its GUI, frameworks, and libraries from the GNOME project. It uses the Matchbox window manager, and the GTK-based Hildon as its GUI and application framework. So expect to be able to use linux apps on this.

You've got it the wrong way around.Nokia hawks Symbian. Updates. Then effectively seemingly will soon drop it for it's high end smartphones.

Nokia's catching up to Apple's OS. (See the reviews wrt OS for the N97 for example).

Apple's response - have you seen Snow Leopard? ;) Multi-core OpenCL, OpenGL, GCD enabled iPhone, Tablet, Mac. OS 4.0 will be stonkingly fast.
