My biggest problem is the crackability, before when I dropped my phone I had a 50/50 chance, now it’s a 100/0 chance it could crack — all for wireless charging that only heats your battery up and destroys it

While I am tracking on the 50/50 | 100/0 part of your statement, I am confused by your statement about the wireless charging causing the battery to overheat and destroy it...

Wireless charging typically charges much more slowly than you can from a wall outlet; less power in, lower heat produced. Anyway, even if there was a difference, I doubt it makes much of a difference in actual longevity of the battery...

The glass doesn’t bother me. You must not be using a case if you have a 100/0 chance now of breaking it. The X is an expensive iPhone, you might want to protect it better rather than chancing dropping it...unless of course you have money to burn. Just buy a case... and if you hate cases, I guarantee your iPhone will break on its first drop. Then how are you going to explain to your significant other that you now have to spend $500 (give or take) to fix or replace your precious iPhone X?

I never broke my iPhone 4 or 4s... idk what you people expect phones to be made out of...

Because in the sense of when you drop a phone, aluminum would be more durable in the sense that it would not shatter. It doesn’t mean the display won’t crack, but an all glass back makes it more problematic for those who don’t use a case. Either way, it’s all user choice and lottery if the phone survives a drop.

Ooh. Nice. Thanks. I’ve been looking for something like this since Colorware stopped doing most customizations. Not that I can afford it, but it is pretty! Thanks for sharing.

My 8 is in a thick case because I am afraid I will drop it again and break it. Initially it was in a thin case but after dropping it (no damage) I opted for something more protective. Needless to say I hate the case, therefore if I had my choice, I would rather a metal backside on my phone.
Yep, my next case will be the Apple Leather Case. I used to get the slim "hard plastic" cases, but when you dropped the phone, the impact on the hard plastic transferred directly to the phone. The leather case is a softer "absorbing" material, and so much of the impact will be absorbed by the leather case itself.

The bigger problem is the battery is glued and no metal to observe the heat at the same time the glue don't let the battery to expend

You might be interested in Neucase…;)

They do phone repairs and customizations.

Note, despite the name, these are not custom cases. They tear the phone down and customize the casings and external parts according to your specs.

They do sell traditional cases though.

Not a fan of that particular colour, however that does look amazing

I’d just be bummed out at losing water resistance, which brings up this double edged sword: it’s easier to replace things in a phone that isn’t water resistant, but also, it’s not water resistant

I don't use wireless charging so I would have preferred a metal back as well. Even more so I wanted a frosted back for grip and less likely to see micro scratches.

I found this case on Amazon for $10 (notice its cheaper now). It basically gives the X a frosted matte look and provides protection. Its black smoke so you can see through it a bit (they offer a white smoke version also). I take the case off once a week to give it a good clean and sometimes I keep my phone in this pouch case to appreciate the design from the safety of my couch.

Only other option is getting a skin (maybe a metal looking one?) but protection from drops won't happen.

I still have my 4S, its in mint condition. And while I like my 8, I am afraid I will break it. The 4S glass seemed thicker perhaps? The glass used on the X is a lot stronger than on the 4S.

I prefer the glass back. the grip over my 7+ is a huge plus with the glass. also the X is more comfortable to hold but still. been careless since launch. Phone looks brand new

Not going to happen when everybody wants some form of wireless charging. They will go back to plastic before going back to metal.

You never know, hopefully Apple is working hard to release inductive charging. It’s been a few years since they’ve obtained the patent.

I personally don't use wireless charging at all but i can give you a solution make a metal cast and make the Apple symbol in the back like on the MBP and charge it wireless you going to get nicer phone stronger and less glue

I love the feel of the X in hand although I never had a problem with the aluminum phones. I use a case for my X so I’m not worried about drops.. Another plus is I prefer a thicker phone and thought the aluminum phones were a bit to thin for my liking..

Love the glass. Wireless charging is super convenient and it looks so damn good. I don’t understand how so many people drop their 800$+ devices so often. Take better care of your electronics.

Is there any truth to wireless charging heating and destroying the phones battery? Or is this an example of someone exaggerating to support their opinion?

I don't find metal to be any better than glass. Both are slippery in my hand. The only backing I like is a grippable plastic like I used to have on my Nexus 5.

Perhaps one day Apple will make an iPhone that you can actually grip comfortably without a case.

And before you rush to reply about how you can handle your iPhone without a case without issues.....I don't care. The majority of consumers use a case, in part, so the damn phone won't slip out of their hand.

Am I the only one who prefers a metal-back phone rather than an all-glass design? I'll gladly forgo wireless charging for a more sturdy metal back.
I'm with you, dont see the point of owning a glass phone. Metal back is much better and more durable. Even if it never gets dropped that fingerprint goo,, yuck. Then those that love em and put em in a case, I don't get the point of that either as the glass is a show off, look at my cool phone thing. I won't buy a glass backed phone till there is no other choice.

Your metal backed phone has the same amount of fingerprint goo as if it were glass backed.

Wireless charging does degrade the battery life faster than wired charging but probably not as noticeable if you upgrade your devices every couple of years anyway.
