Might be a limitation on older devices. I recall your screen name from my howardforums days. I used to be a power user back in the day (boston_irish_guy).

I only have one account. I find it odd that if I only have one account that it won't group them all together.
Sometimes Apple frustrates me. :)

Is it an iCloud account? I just have 1 iCloud email account set up on my phone and I too am missing the option to group Mail.

I’m on an iPhone 8 and do not have the option to group Mail.

Thanks. So my guess at this point (albeit with only @Baldilocks and myself as reference) is that there is some limitation/bug with imap accounts using grouped notifications in Mail app.

My gmail account is an imap account I thought? Maybe not?
In any case in the stock mail app I have an exchange and a gmail account linked. Grouped notifications work fine.

Oh, Gmail is imap afaik.

After i added a 2nd account to the stock Mail app (2x imap) grouped notifications is available under notifications. So seems like that 2 accounts (or more) is required for mail app to group notifications. Ping @Baldilocks

It’s weird you would need two accounts... never would have thought about that. Doesn’t sound right for some reason.

I think iOS missed the point of Grouped Notifications somewhat. They should call them, kind of grouped sometimes depending on some criteria no one is really sure of --- notifications. :)

Not really, it gives you the option to be grouped by app or individually

I just have a single Gmail account (set up via IMAP) but still have the option. I do have VIP mailbox and a Favorite Mailbox set up, giving me separate notification options for each one of those (and the grouping option on the same screen).

But only sometimes, it seems. And then when it DOES group them together, it doesn't. SMS messages have multiple groups for each person. I guess, as one who uses both iOS and Android, I am just spoiled by the much better notification system on the latter.

It shouldn’t

My Twitter notifications are grouped by app on my phone but on my iPad I’ve done it individually so I can see more on my iPad at once

If you set it to app thats how it should be

Yeah, I've tried both. Doesn't matter. Sucks. I'm going to update the iPhone X later and see how that one fares.

This probably doesn’t make any sense, but the missing grouping option makes it seem like iOS isn’t registering that notifications are turned on for Mail.

Just spitballing here, but for the people who do not have “Notification Grouping” listed for Mail, did you have a bunch of notifications already present in Notification Center prior to installing the update?

I didn't, no. I cleared everything out before updating.

I only have my iCloud account in Mail, and I do not see options to group notifications as well. Toggling notifications on/off makes no difference.

If you don’t mind me asking, which device are you using? I’m curious to see if the age of the device is somehow related to the availability of the grouping option.

Probably a waste of time, but has anyone tried removing their email account in Mail & re-adding it to see if the grouping option magically appears?

No VIP or Favorite mailboxes setup, on a iPhone X.

And it looks like archvile posted above he's seeing the same issue.

I’m not sure how I even feel about grouped notifications... it seems to introduce an extra step (“de-collapsing” groups) to see everything. Maybe it’s helpful if you get tons of notifications.

I’ve already turned it off for Messages... when my wife sends me a series of 2 or 3 messages, I want to see the whole series at a glance.

From what I can tell, they group only after having 4 notifications from the same app / person (depending on which auto-grouping setting you have selected)

It’s grouping 2 or more from same sender for me (in Mail, Gmail, Messages...)

Actually, two or more Gmail messages are grouped, regardless of sender.

Thanks for the info on that.

So... basically it's a bit of a mess at the moment then.

It's 2 or more for me too. But it seems to be working well. I do like it and have missed this option since the took it away.

Probably should be an option though with a button that changes the sort for all notifications rather than doing them one at a time.
