Hi there,

In the past I was able to delete emails directly in notification centre by 3D touching them and choosing ‘delete’.

In iOS 12 though 3D touching an email in notification centre seems to show a preview of the entire email and it has become impossible to delete an email conveniently because the delete button shows up way down below the email.

Is there a workaround for deleting emails in notification centre?
Am I missing something?

Thank you.

Is there a threshold for grouping (either time or count)? I have it enabled and it works in some contexts, but I still get separate/ungrouped iMessage notifications showing up on the lockscreen if the same person messages me a few times, regardless of whether the messages are 10-15 minutes apart.

I still get a red "Trash" option below the preview. Are you display fonts changed from default?

Thanks for the info on that.

So... basically it's a bit of a mess at the moment then.

It's not really a "group", is it? More like a "pile" or "stack".

I'm turning if "Off" for everything. Someone let me know when it gets better.

I have been experimenting with the notification grouping settings & I still can’t figure out how they are supposed to work. Earlier, when grouping was set to “Automatic” & I had more than one email listed in Notification Center, they were grouped/stacked. When I checked again later, they were separated & each had their own individual notification. I turned off “Allow Notifications” & turned it back on; the emails were stacked again. Later on, I repeated the process using “By App” & the exact same thing happened.o_O

Have you tried sliding the notification to see if that gives you some options? I think those can be xo

Well, it's still grouping them in the sense of gathering them together (the display of that grouping can certainly take on different forms, in the sense of design, like a stack, or something else).

There's definitely something related to that in play. It generally happens when there are more than a couple of notifications from the same app and if there are other notifications present as well that take up some more screen space so grouping some would help with making more screen space available for other notifications.

Yeah my nest cam notifications are not grouping together. I even went into settings to confirm I want them to group.

I’m having the same issue as @Baldilocks. Running an 8+ and my mail doesn’t have the option to group notifications. I only have my work email running through it and it’s an exchange account. This account is where I need grouping the most!

Edit: also tried to send myself 3 emails to see if they would group by sender and no dice....individual emails on the lock screen...

Edit 2: wow, strange! Now there are some grouped emails, but not by sender. There are random emails just sitting out there individually. Bug for sure..

And now for some new behavior with the built in Mail notifications.

Just had a bunch of mail come through. So, I have the badge with 9 showing on the Mail icon. When I pull down my notification shade, it only shows one email notification. The other 8 aren't anywhere to be found. BUUUUUUUUUGGY!!

So within an hr of posting here that my nest cam notifications were not grouping all of a sudden 2 nest cam notifications were grouped and tiles together. Then the next hr I got 2 more but they were not grouped.

It seems like it’s hit or miss.

Gotta love it. :)

I noticed that notifications are not showing up (no Grouped, Un-grouped either) for Gmail, Outlook, Fantastical and many other apps, the stock Mail app showed just once while I was testing Grouped notifications - once you tap on the stack, it un-groups but then doesn't re-group again.
Also, has Apple made any changes in Low-power mode and notifications because I don't get any notifications from any app while in low-power mode?

I had 5 notifications from the same app this morning that were not grouped so I left them alone. As soon as I got one more notification from another app, all 5 of the first ones became grouped.

I think I figured it out. Grouping is not triggered until you get a notification that would cause there to be more than one "screen" worth of notifications. So if you have 1 or 2 notifications, they won't get grouped. Once you get a 3rd or 4th that would push something off the screen, grouping kicks in.

I just tested with Messages and I still get notifications in low power mode.

I think you might be on to something so far I’ve only seen grouping with 3 or more notifications from the same app.

I am not getting email notifications from any app except the stock Mail app.. tried turning notification settings on/off - badge, banner-persistent/temporary, Grouping, but still Gmail, Outlook apps don't show up in the notification center. Only stock Mail app shows up but not all emails and that too when not in low power mode.

It’s difficult to tell whether some of the confusion in this thread comes out of not understanding how grouping works, or whether there are genuinely lots of bugs.

I’m not expert on this but I will just say what I believe to be the case, it may explain some behaviour some of you see. Or it may not!

Threshold: grouping does not kick in until there are a few notifications. The idea being we can all handle a few individual ones before it gets overwhelming. Not sure of the exact number, if it varies by device type and/or notification size.

Once the threshold has been reached, there are two ways for an app to group its notifications. The default is Automatic, but you can change this in your Notification settings.

By App: All notifications from the app are grouped into one stack.

Automatic: This is down to each app developer. The grouping is done based on a ‘thread’ property on each notification. One hypothetical example is a messaging app which sets the thread property to the name of the sender or group. But bear in mind, this is just an example and actual messaging apps may or may not do this. If the thread property is not used at all by the app (or all notifications the same thread value), grouping behaves the same as By App.

If only these things can be changed on a global scale and not on a per-app basis.

Can confirm that it seems like it has to do with lock screen notification quantity and not how many notifications are sent by an individual app. Tested with 3 messaging apps, mail (but this was wonky), and 2 social network apps.

For the rest, I think you're spot on.
