It is getting too much coverage for a 42,000-1 longshot to occur. Xbox 360 owners had a far greater chance getting the RROD. Scratches on Gorilla Glass 5 and Grace UX lag are more common problems than if the Note7 exploded. I would be worried if the chances were in double digits.
How much negative coverage do you want Samsung to take?
They recalled after less than 40 defective units. They will lose more money although $1B is doable to pay if they can make $6B during last quarter with their mobile division.. They should've kept their mouth shut but owed up to it. How much more damage do you want them to take if you're are simply suggesting Apple gets a double standard?
Other companies will tell you you're holding it wrong or here's a free case. Samsung replaced the phone completely for you! The purple photos on the HTC One M7 was far more common. Go on Craigslist and you will see it being mentioned having the purple photos. HTC didn't owe up to it at all and that was far more common. LG G4 has a reboot loop issue. Samsung didn't sweep this under the rug like other companies with less resources.
Even if you want to magnify it by 42,000x, Samsung can still leave the mobile industry and still make money. They are everywhere. They don't just make phones and TVs. They have their own city, tanks, military division, shipping company, and make buildings. Qualcomm has Samsung make their Snapdragon 820 chip. The memory storage you have inside your iPhone is made by Samsung. Google should be grateful that Samsung is their MVP (Most Valuable Partner). Android would not mainstream today if it wasn't for Samsung.
Samsung is too talented and skilled to be completely knocked down. They have more employees than Apple, Google, and Microsoft have combined. Apple isn't perfect either, right? Both Apple and Samsung had a poor brand image twenty years ago. Microsoft, Sony, Panasonic, Nokia, Motorola, and Nintendo were all bigger than Apple and Samsung back in the 1990's. Everyone has their peaks and valleys. And Samsung's Project Valley might get them back at their peak...
Wait five to six more months until Samsung changes the game for tablets and wearables forever. Then watch Apple copy it. This recall will be just a footNote in their history...
