It's all over the news and you would have known unless you are living under a rock.

Samsung did the responsible thing and replacing these devices.

If this has happened to Apple, Apple would most likely ignore the problem and blamed the users.

Also, what does this have to do with the iPhone and why is it in the iPhone forum?
It gets people's minds off of waiting for their order status page to change to 'Preparing for shipment'.

Damn sure has helped me. ;)

It is definitely being covered and is a big deal. Was on a Delta flight the other day and everyone with a samsung phone had to power their phone off.

everyone with any samsung phone.

I don't think they are really knowledgeable enough to distinguish the phones, so it is easier to have people do that.

Agreed. I often ask people I know what model Android phone they have and they have absolutely no idea.

I'm flying Southwest Wednesday. Curious as to what they'll say about my S7 Edge, if anything.

Guess the iPad Pro will come in handy...

A potentially combustible battery would hopefully motivate them to find out.:)

Will do.

One thing that crosses my mind is that Samsung went to non user-replaceable batteries a few years ago.

How they must wish the Note 7 still had removeable batteries.

True story. The timing of this could not be worse. The number of people who were probably debating note7/iphone 7+ no longer have a decision to make.

I had the original Unibody MacBook Pro.

The removeable batteries in that thing deformed and swelled enough to keep the battery from fitting properly, interfering and making the click feature on my track pad extremely stiff, and inhibiting the battery door from fitting correctly.

Ever since Apple went to these body integrated batteries, I've waited for some issues to arise.

Does anybody else feel like the coverage on these pocket bombs aren't getting enough coverage, I mean if this was apple this story would be huge not just oh the iPhone blew up so apple recalled the entire line. Think about for a minute I think Samsung is getting off to easy

Apple wouldn't recall them they'd just say your charging it wrong, lol :D
[doublepost=1473704172][/doublepost]
You're charging it wrong.

Damn, you beat me to it.

Well bad praise or good praise you gotta give Apple there props for as many blows they have taken from Samsung they just keep turning the cheek. You see I'll be honest I started this thread because I hate android phones mostly because most android user always try to tell you why there device is better than apples lol, see if I was on apples or team you'd see tv ads with kids playing Pokemon go and then exploding, high school girls taking selfies for prom and next thing you know boom. With the ad ending the Samsung galaxy note 7 6 54321 the next big thing is...........

That's a great reason to hate Android phones. Do you really "hate" them? Just curious if it's truly hate.

Samsung did the responsible thing and replacing these devices.

In the beginning I felt the same. But this afternoon I talked to several Note 7 users and countless users of other phones that had no clue about this. And it does feel like Carriers will not have replacements until near the cut off date of Sept 30. I myself won't be waiting that long.

I like the ad where a girl was trying to call 911 because her dad got in an accident, but he died because her iPhone 6 got the touch disease and she wasn't able to make the call.

And then it ends with, "Switch to the Samsung Galaxy S7 today".

It is getting too much coverage for a 42,000-1 longshot to occur. Xbox 360 owners had a far greater chance getting the RROD. Scratches on Gorilla Glass 5 and Grace UX lag are more common problems than if the Note7 exploded. I would be worried if the chances were in double digits.

How much negative coverage do you want Samsung to take?

They recalled after less than 40 defective units. They will lose more money although $1B is doable to pay if they can make $6B during last quarter with their mobile division.. They should've kept their mouth shut but owed up to it. How much more damage do you want them to take if you're are simply suggesting Apple gets a double standard?

Other companies will tell you you're holding it wrong or here's a free case. Samsung replaced the phone completely for you! The purple photos on the HTC One M7 was far more common. Go on Craigslist and you will see it being mentioned having the purple photos. HTC didn't owe up to it at all and that was far more common. LG G4 has a reboot loop issue. Samsung didn't sweep this under the rug like other companies with less resources.

Even if you want to magnify it by 42,000x, Samsung can still leave the mobile industry and still make money. They are everywhere. They don't just make phones and TVs. They have their own city, tanks, military division, shipping company, and make buildings. Qualcomm has Samsung make their Snapdragon 820 chip. The memory storage you have inside your iPhone is made by Samsung. Google should be grateful that Samsung is their MVP (Most Valuable Partner). Android would not mainstream today if it wasn't for Samsung.

Samsung is too talented and skilled to be completely knocked down. They have more employees than Apple, Google, and Microsoft have combined. Apple isn't perfect either, right? Both Apple and Samsung had a poor brand image twenty years ago. Microsoft, Sony, Panasonic, Nokia, Motorola, and Nintendo were all bigger than Apple and Samsung back in the 1990's. Everyone has their peaks and valleys. And Samsung's Project Valley might get them back at their peak...

Wait five to six more months until Samsung changes the game for tablets and wearables forever. Then watch Apple copy it. This recall will be just a footNote in their history...

Thanks for a response but yes it's been reported but I'm saying it feels like back page of the newspaper type coverage when you know if it were Apple it would be on cnn, headline news local news any and everything to discredit the top dog, it's people at my job that didn't know anything about it so I have to imagine it's still not dinner table topic

my father is in his 60s and doesn't have a smart phone and no computer and the day we all were posting about the note 7 having battery issues and even before the recall he told me I heard on the radio and TV news that the note 7 is catching on fire.

if my dad new the same day I found out without Facebook or a smart phone and doesn't use any social media.then they did a good job covering it.

everyone I know knows about the notes issues.

These Samsung apologists here are beyond comical. Just wait until "Micro Abrasion-gate" gets ten times more media coverage and posts complaining about it from the exact same shills here, than for exploding Note 7s have that are actually injuring people and destroying property...

I took a flight a day early on Southwest.

Made it from FLL to BNA and I asked the crew if they are mirroring Delta's directive.

They laughed and said, " Doesn't that affect only one of the phones?"

Next leg to Cleveland we'll see if that crew has a different opinion.

You're right. If it were Apple, you'd probably hear about it just as much as we hear about the Presidential race. Hell, I know quite a few people that didn't even know about the Samsung recall.

Samsung is letting you know if your Note7 has been compromised. They are handling it very well when they could have said nothing at all since many phones including iPhones have had batteries explode before. Samsung didn't sweep it under the rug like Apple, HTC, and LG do which probably had more common problems than this.

42,000-1 needs to have more media backlash? They raised their hand seeing they are guilty two weeks later since it is from their own battery supplier. The iPhone 6 "Touch Disease" didn't start appearing until two years later. The Red Ring Of Death affected several Xbox 360 over the years. Even the Sony VAIO battery recall was awful. I had one of those VAIO laptops. Used it for seven years. Motherboard eventually fried on me.

Lucky they caught the issue early and Note7 was released BEFORE iPhone 7 and Christmas holidays. If so, then the Note7 would truly bomb in sales, no pun intended. Samsung's situation will get worse if the replacement Note7 catches fire too. Then that's when the media can fire away. A few months of damaged reputation before Samsung blews us all away with Project Valley. Hopefully, Samsung can learn from this fiasco and bring back removable battery.

Samsung and Huawei should separate from Android. Have their own OS. Then each maker will make parts solely for themselves. Be wary that the same battery supplier of iPhone 7 is from Samsung SDI too. So don't assume this will apply only to Note7... Sealed battery that explodes is the karma from the greed of planned obsolescence. Tired of these manufacturers limiting our options (ahem, Apple) and hoodwinking us to upgrade frequently.

Samsung might as well get out of the phone business at this point. Rumors from some of the consumer monitoring services are saying there are 70+ cases of exploding phone in the that have been reported so far IN THE US ALONE. To top that off, they've already severely burned a toddler in Japan with their "Galaxy Core" model... so it's not even "just" the Note 7.

I say this to you few misguided macrumors members who post here(and no doubt at least one will see this post) who also bought stock in this Korean company:

Sell now or prepare to hold for a decade. If you were crazy enough to actually buy one of these phones and still haven't turned it over to your local unexploded ordinance officer please do so immediately, and then immediately drive home, open your Schwab account, sell your Samsung stock and put it all in AAPL if you want to make money. Or other stocks if you want to gamble. Then buy an iPhone 7 if you have any money left and enjoy that explosion-free iOS goodness.

This is the beginning of the end of Samsung phones. I'm eying my smart-tv suspiciously at this moment, and def won't be buying another samsung anything for safety reasons. Too bad for me, too... I do like their displays. They make a decent washer/dryer too.
