Do you think that extension applies if I purchased at Costco? I'll have to give them a call and find out. I have a love hate relationship with the N7, kind of like all the Note series but so far I've had the most issues with this one, that's saying a lot as I've only owned it for 2 weeks.

I'm not sure. I got mine at a Verizon corporate store. You'll have to call them. Maybe your replacement one will be better? A later build? I actually really like mine and will probably get another unless LG knocks it out of the park. The other issue is only the Samsungs and Apples qualify for the 1 year trade in upgrades, so unless they add the V20 that sort of makes me want to stick with the Note 7.

Thanks for posting that. I'm going to show my husband when he wakes up. We had a nasty argument last night when we got home from our vacation. He set his Note 7 up on his nightstand next to the bed and plugged it in for the night!

I asked him if he was crazy and he told me I was crazy for worrying about the minuscule odds of the phone burning up. I told him the odds got worse for him by his dropping the phone not once, but twice and shattering the corner. I told him how dare he disrespect my concerns and he better unplug that phone. Then I gave him "the look." :) I really can't tell him what to do unless I give "the look". It's my final option. It is the look that scares the kids, the dog and even the cats. He's the most stubborn man on the planet, but I noticed when I woke up this morning that the Note 7 was not plugged in. :p

Edit: just noticed that phone pictured in the news is an S7 Active. I can't watch the video at the moment. Is that the actual phone that burst or are they using stock footage?

Edit again: I got to watch the video. I guess it is a Note 7 in a special case. If I were a paramedic I would not get a Note7 or any Samsung phone made of glass.

Lol! Good one! Alas, we argue about stuff like that all the time. And most of the time he does it just to watch me fuss. I've got a temper that is usually pretty amusing to watch. Unlike a Note 7, I can be cute when I explode. :p

I think I will name the Note7 "Voltorb" after the exploding Pokemon. I call the iPhone 7 "Cyclops" and the iPhone 7S Plus "Bender" after Bender the robot in Futurama.

I may see when Verizon gets the replacements in, if they allow me to plug the new one and copy from the old one to make sure it's the exact copy over then I'll do it, otherwise I'll keep mine.

I was impressed with how well Samsungs sync app works, the one where you just tap the phones together for a second. My transferred apps even retained their settings and logins.

Apple QC is lacking lately.

You may not be aware that Apple and Samsung don't build batteries, they buy them, blaming Samsung QC is a vacuous response.

I live in the Internet Era... Hand holding isn't appealing, I don't need a store to make me feel safe.

I don't think it's handholding so much as ease of use. When there's a problem with an Apple product, you walk into a store and generally walk out with a resolution with a minimum of fuss. Their CS is usually top notch, and it's one of the items greatly discounted by folks when they insist their devices aren't worth the money.

FYI - Swappa has halted all sales of the Note 7. Not returning or exchanging it may potentially impact resale value.

Grumpy dad and I just completed our returns at AT&T. It went smoothly and they gave me my choice of the Galaxy S7 gold and my husband got the S7Edge in black. I also got the Smart Case Cover. I was told I will be allowed a full refund on the case as well as the phone when I go to exchange for the Note7. We were told that could be anywhere from a week to the end of the month.

These interim phones are new, not refurbished. The salesman was very nice and well informed and ready for all of this. it went smoothly and quickly. This was a corporate AT&T store.

I am loving my S7 so far. It's small and pretty in its smart case.

I was really impressed with how generous AT&T'S policy is. We were warned that we had to keep these temporary phones in good shape.

The salesman had an S7 Edge with a shattered corner like my husband's Note7 corner. It was a no brainer for me to get the non-edge phone as my temp.

I do have an iPhone SE but I wanted to try this one out. I like trying new things.

My husband isn't thrilled with his S7edge. He misses his Note7 terribly.

I hope everyone gets a good return experience.

This brings up an interesting scenario: unless sellers have a means to prove they have a Note 7 from the new batch, the resell value will be next to nothing on these phones.

I recommend using your phone like normal. Nothing will happen, and if it does and damage is done...you liable to get a decent settlement from Samsung. Just saying...

Maybe rock the phone naked and see what it's made of. Samsung will replace it either way. I'm not that brave, but would admire it. Hell...I had to jump into my pool while closing it for the winter today, to save a baby rabbit that I accidentally scared into running into the pool. Forgot the phone was in my pocket...note 7 is perfectly fine, and so is the rabbit; though I'm convinced he thought I was trying to eat him.

If you love the note 7 and leave it over this....I don't believe it. Simple as that. No company is perfect and Samsung response is commendable.

I usually get excited for the new iPhones....but this year I look at it with largely disappointment. Maybe I'll be wrong, but if we get the removal of the headphone jack, with the same design, dual lenses camera, and maybe waterproofing....I'll most likely pass. It will be a poor showing, IMO.

The ergonomics of the note 7 alone will be enough to keep me away.

That being said.....the upcoming pixel phones. I am excited for those. Most likely the note 7 or a pixel phone will be my phone until the new galaxy, lg, etc role out next year.

I just wish my darn gear fit 2 would ship.

I changed to the Note 7 from the iPhone 6 Plus due to the iPhone 7 will be to boring to even consider, and I have no 2nd thoughts about my Note 7, I haven't fully decided if I will swap when Verizon gets the new ones or not, just depends on how easy it is to set it back up with how I have everything now, Thats the ONE thing that will make me miss Apple, is restoring from the cloud is so easy.

Thank you for sharing this! I was curious how it worked. One of the teenagers from our church was gracious enough to loan me his old S6 until I get a new Note7. Not sure if I want to use the loaner phone or go into AT&T.

Does anyone know... If I decide to keep using my current N7, will I be notified by AT&T when replacements are ready?

I got the iphone 6s plus as could not wait for the note 7 after returning my s7 edge.

Any way from what they guys said in a few of the mobile shops, of the few explosions two where not using the genuine charger.

Does not explain all the incidents but you should be able to use almost any 5v 2amp charger.

although with the exception on my s7 edge i do use genuine charger.

on my s7 edge i uesd a note 3 charger.
only due to face s7 had fast charger upto 9v and i use same cable for samsung tablet which note support this.

You might not be.

The fact you are thinking of keeping your Note7 does underscore a point that Consumer Reports is trying to make when they state that Samsung should be complying with the US Product Safety Commissiom to do a real official recall. Note7s are still being sold by some vendors and not everyone is aware of the hazards and the unofficial recall Samsung has initiated. An official recall would do more to protect people.

I do urge you to turn your Note7 in especially since AT&T is doing its best to make the process as painless as possible. It's been a long time since I was impressed by any carrier. But they impressed me so far. I don't think you will be informed about replacements if you keep your Note7 but you will if you turn it in. We are supposed to get a text message but we will be checking with AT&T ourselves, too.

I know everyone keeps saying the odds of having your Note7 pop and burn are probably lower than getting hit by lightning or winning the lottery. Well. more than half of the people I know have near miss lightning stories to tell. I have nearly been struck by lightning three times in my life. Once was when lightning hit a tree next to the house and travelled along the plumbing and shot out of the faucet I was about to use. I've had enough freak accidents in life that I don't take unnecessary risks. Even small ones. ;)

Good luck and I hope it goes smoothly. Just in case you do get that one clerk who wants to be stubborn, ignorant, and unhelpful, politely escalate to the store manager if need be. However, the generous policies we encountered should be standard across all AT&T corporate stores and you should not encounter any difficulties.

.

I think the problem is that in most states (and Canada), if you ignore the recall and then have a problem with your phone, Samsung might not be obligated to help you unless you can prove you didn't know about the recall. Also, if you want to sell your phone later and something happens to that person, you could be on the hook for it if you knew there was a potential danger.

Seems like a lot of risk just to get to keep the phone for a month or so.
