Overall it was "ok" in Beta but the bright sparks at Apple messed up changing some core frameworks in release and as they don't give a **** about third party functionality did not test with Office. No doubt the poor Devs are told to not bother as we will fix any big problems next year in 10.12 anyway
Exactly. Apple has to realize that 3rd party developers deserve the same respect. Especially Microsoft since without them, Mac would be dead.

hi, could you suggest a resource which could guide me on how to remove all traces for 2011. Want to be sure before I install 2016. Many thanks.

OFFICE 2016 and El Capitan are totally unusable together. 2011 OFFICE is fine. I just deleted 2016 OFFICE and reinstalled 2011. I was plagued with constant crashes on opening files in the entire suite of programs, saving files and printing files but 2011 OFFICE works just fine. It is kinda annoying but not the end of the world.

Do you know if there is a fix for this now? Installed Office 2016 on El Capitan and am now unable to activate the copy of Office. I was able to download and install, but when i try to activate (or even login to Office), it says "There is a problem with you account, please try again later."

You know where can i look for a fix on this?

Apple and Microsoft have both issued software patches which, together, seem to solve the problems.
I haven't seen reports that the incompatibility affects installation, though, so I think you should either try later or else contact MS Support by phone or chat.

Is the free preview for Office 2016 over? Mine is asking me to activate and no download updates are available. Just curious what's going on.

I have no doubt that Apple tests extensively and that they knew about this issue. It's just that they're on this "One OS Update per Year" schedule, so they release no matter what. I don't understand the value of releasing an OS update simply because Earth spun around the sun again, especially if it means cutting corners like that.

I totally like getting new OS updates, but I just want them to have great benefit and stability.

Yep, rather based on functionality. They should not be date bound, but its great marketing...and shifts product.

Same problem here, it's a massive pain in the ass. MS is as useless as ever, can't even tell us when they're going to fix this mess.

Apple have just released a patch to address it (10.11.1) - so does that mean the pain in the ass is actually coming from apple?

Run Microsoft's Office update and also Apple's update. Your problems should go away

I just installed Office 365 (2016) on my Late 2015 5K iMac (10.11.1) and all is working pretty well.

Only minor bug is an ocassional Office error when logging off that I need to OK.
Otherwise functionality seems pretty good.

Same for me: office 365 subscriber since three days ago, Office is running just fine on my MacBook Pro (and my iPhone and my iPad Air)

Whats the concensus on this now ? Office 2016 working well on El Capitan 10.11.1 ?

I was thinking to upgrade from Office 2011 - but have alot of projects on the go and don't want to lose time messing about with restores etc.

Personal experiences will probably differ, but my experience with Office 2016 on El Cap has been rock-solid. I find this quite a pleasant surprise because prior to this, any upgrades of OSX have resulted in degraded performance and stability on all the devices that I upgraded.

Thanks for the info. Actually I only recently upgraded to El Capitan from Yosemite. I'm finding El-Cap much smoother. Yosmite was getting slower and slower over time for me!

In the present
I have used Office 365 Office 2016 for a week or so and it seems to work ok from a functionality perspective, still I will remove it from my client and use 2011 instead.

Why? Because it's insanely intrusive.

It connects to 5-6-7 different servers constantly, per app. The Office365ServiceV2 is also triggered by actions not related to Office.

My impression is that it basically has the function of spy-ware.

And if I block the connections (work off-line) it's lasts a few hours or max a day until functionality is shut down. Read-only mode.

Would be interesting if someone with Wireshark or similar checked what information it slurps from the clients, if that is possible, connections are encrypted.

It's an Office version of Win10 from a privacy perspective.

I can't agree that Office 2016 on El Capitan is "rock solid". I frequently get the spinning beach ball of death. Frequently = 2x or 3x per week. I lost a presentation yesterday. It's not horrible, probably needs another stability patch or two from MSFT, but not "rock solid." By comparison, when El Cap was released, I couldn't use Outlook 2011 at all.

This is on a 13", 2015 MBP with 8GB RAM.

Seems to work for me with both Word and Excel. I waited to upgrade until 10.11.1 came out.
