Yay!

My 2nd unit has turned up, took longer to get from Leeds to here ( about 60 miles ) than it did the 10,000 or so from Hong Kong to the UK...

Spoke to TNT who said they had the wrong address on the label thats why they couldnt deliver yesterday ( after saying no one was in, and not leaving a card... )

Peeled off the new label and lo and behold the same address was underneath :)

Hoping this one has a working wireless, will find out in a bit :)

Pete.

Wireless works straight out of the box on this one, full signal and 225 K/sec on our 2 meg link.

Not done a software update yet though - will post on the airport issue thread with more results.

Pete.

Glad your new one is working fine!

It does indeed sound like my, Spanky's and liketom's minis have been huddled together for warmth in the trip across.

Hopefully we'll all get our dirty mits on them tomorrow in time for the weekend. I bloomin' well hope so, but all this talk of TNT's less-than-exemplary delivery practices has me worried! :)

I got my Mini Core Solo with SuperDrive yesterday and today I noticed that when I click on 'About This Mac' it shows that I have an Intel Core Duo 1.5GHz... I double checked my order and also the sticker on the box and both say Core Solo... so I am wondering do all Core Solo report as Duo or did Apple screw up and give me a free upgrade??

again, I bought the $599 solo and added the superdrive upgrade for $45 extra.

Mine status has finally updated - now I'm at "Out For Delivery LUXEMBOURG, LU, LU" - at least it's out of HK!

I also got an email today about my second order, the one where I decided I wanted the ACD and Soundsticks. Despite using exactly the same details, the order was on hold as my address didn't match. I rang them up, explained that I already had one order with them with the same details, and they removed the hold :D It's still saying Not Yet Shiped despite having the email confirmation, but I should still receive it before the mini...

Macheaven.co.uk should have delivered my EyeTV today... but their site still says Processing. I added a ticket earlier in the day but have had no response as yet :( I was hoping to be able to rave about their good service, but my £6 delivery charge doesn't seem to be very good value for money just now!

WRT jameskk and the 1.5 Core Duo... if the speed was correct then I'd say you've snagged a free upgrade, but there isn't a 1.5 AFAIK so I guess the software is just wrong... can you see the load on both processor cores? :S

if you want to be sure open Activity Monitor and turn on the CPU Usage meter from the Window menu. if you have a dual core it will show as two columns, solo as one.

well you're in for a treat then! my Core Duo mini SMOKES in GarageBand. i mentioned it in an earlier post in this thread but i've trying to push it by loading up the max 64 tracks and effects and the CPU usage never goes above 50%. amazing. 32 software instruments at once is seriously impressive.

my mini finally arrived yesterday and i've been moving my files over a little bit at a time. I've been thoroughly impressed with the mini so far and don't regret my purchase.

This thing beats my leaf blower MDD 867 any day.

liketom,

If its with TNT, on their tracking page select "no" to the question " Was your consignment sent from or to a location outside of the United Kingdom?"

Gave me some more specific local details.

Pete.

Mine is just sitting in Hong Kong at the minute :( Sadly the original 17th March delivery date may be right!

EDIT: it's moved to amsterdam! I guess it won't arrive before monday though. Must try not to get my hopes up.

Wow. Mine arrived today and its simply lovely. I'm really loving some of the basic things like using DVI instead of VGA, the fact its so small and of course Frontrow. On my headless eMac I was never able to get avi files playing in Quicktime and I was slightly worried because I've got over half a terrabyte of video content on a server of which 95% is in AVI format and I really wanted to use Frontrow with these files and re-encoding was not an option. After about fifteen minutes of finding the right version of the DivX codec quicktime now plays my files wonderfully!

Now I wonder if this whole Bonjour thing can or will be able to share any (read avi) video files from a Windows PC.

I've still got to install Office, iWork and Photoshop but that can all wait for another time. Its time to watch Lost!!

Sorry i have not reported back i've been playing all day with the new mini!

i got all the computers in the house including the mini encoding all my DVD collection at the moment

so far : Trading Places - mp4 1500k bit rate
Only Fools and Horses series 1 1500k bit rate
Only Fools and Horses series 2 1500k Bit Rate
Back To The Future part 1 - 1800k bit rate
Back To The Future part 2 - 1800k bit rate

over night i'm batch encoding OFAH series 3,4 and 5

i must say Trading Places was my first and WOW mini is perfect in the front room with front row  still playing with the wi-fi part of front row but have noticed a slight delay on the start of a movie like 10-20 sec's so for now i'm playing these off the Mini's HDD

overall i'm really pleased with the mini - well apart from the 20 gig that apple filled with there image of Mac OS and office and games and what not's ;)

Ah finally my Mini has shipped!

Although one odd thing is that it's currently in Prague . . . I thought Apple computers usually shipped from China via Luxembourg (at least they have for me in the past). The first line on the shipment details say Prague, there's not even a mention of it leaving China.

Has anyone else had this?

How bizzare! Mine went HK to LU and was scheduled for delivery on Wednesday.

My 23" ACD and Soundsticks were scheduled for Tuesday.

This morning at 8:30AM my ACD and Soundsticks showed up! Hurrah :D The great news is that that my mini is now apparently with the carrier and should be delivered on Monday.

Good question...There have been other reports of this...'twould be nice if they did screw up, but it's probably just a bug in the software. :(

What are people getting Mac Minis for. I have thought about this a lot and can't see any advantage of the thing.
Is it just for poor people who want a mac and have a beat up ugly old monitor and grubby keyboard to attach to it?

I'm not joking, just wondered how they are being used.
