Hi! I have a Mac from 3 years ago, so rather new to this world, and besides 95% of the time I use it as a *nix development workstation.

I just got registered into this forum to thumbs up a response that helped me (this one btw, as I had issues connecting my phone to my Mac with one of my very best lightning cables), but I plan to stay around and, if I can, put my two cents in any discussion I might be able to.

Hi

Bit of an experiment for me this.

Having got thoroughly and heartily sick of the constant updates with Windows 10, and it's need to update almost daily, I've started to look around for an alternative system.

I've previously used my brother in laws iMac, and liked it. But always reluctant to break away from Windows because I've always used it.
But this being totally unable to USE Windows when I switch on, because of updating or 'configuring' is now unacceptable.

So enter a 2007 Mini Mac that I've picked up, that runs OS 10-7-5, rebuilt with a new 320GB hard drive, and Libre Office, I am once again enjoying being able to switch on, and USE a PC again.

This little gizmo is awesome. I only use it for basic computing, so security isn't an issue for me. But it works... Every single time.

Transition to a newer Apple system is affordable and possible, but I'm very happy, nay, ecstatic about this little beauty.
My intro to Apple, and so far, impressed. I don't need all the bells and whistles of a high powered do it all computer, so hope you can guide me as to what sort of Apple would suit me.

I always said that Windows XP was the best system for Windows computers. Constant upgrades killed Windows for many home users. So is this little Mac perfect for me.....?

Hi, all.

New to both the forums and the Mac world, having only just acquired my first Mac (a Macbook Air) in February of this year.

My background as far as operating systems are concerned consists mainly of Unix-likes, such as various flavours of Linux and BSD.

I also have quite a bit of experience with Windows. I started with 3.1 when I was around 9 or 10, but I found it so unwieldy and bug-prone that I ended up opting to use MSDOS as my daily driver instead. It was probably around Windows 95 or 98 when I started using Linux, and since that time I have really only used Windows to run games (I'm mainly a console gamer, so this has been a very intermittent thing)---well apart from two or three years on Windows 8/10 where I *tried* to use Windows for work.

The aforementioned attempting-to-use-Windows-for-work period led to frustration which in turn led to a short-lived return to Linux; short-lived because the days when I could happily fritter away hours on building a (temporarily) working OS, and not really caring if I could run this or that work-related application, are over. I wanted an OS with a solid Unix foundation that allowed me to use a *functional* command line if I wanted to, but which also had the 'it just works [without me having to spend days configuring it]' ease that I had heard about, but which was never really a feature of any of the operating systems I had ever used. I came to realise that the only real candidate that ticked these boxes was macOS, and so here I am.

I'm glad that I finally have an OS that works for me, and not the other way around. :)

I'm wondering what's the purpose of replying to this thread. Will there be a prize?

good morning
My name is Daniele and I am a Mac user since 2004.
I study graphic arts with Adobe CC.
I opened this account yesterday to follow a specific discussion on Mac Pro and its failed video cards as being the owner of this computer.
I apologize again for my modality of expressing myself in English. (I use google translate).
Thank you
