The MBP and MB will last the same time, both are good in terms of power. I am also wishing for a Blue-Ray (should be standard) burner in the MacBook and MacBook Pro.

No, they will not last the same time. Physically, probably. But a MBP will run new programs at acceptable speeds further into the future than the MB. Blowing it out of all proportion, a 3Ghz Mac Pro will be able to run more programs in say 5 years than a Mac Mini. Same goes with MB and MBP. MBP has higher specs, and so it will take longer before programs have higher minimum system specs than it does, than it would for the MB.

Think we'll have to wait a couple of years to have Blu-Ray burners in MBP's.

I am waiting at least until Nehalem before buying another Apple laptop.

Uhhh, good luck with that.

Yes, add me to the list, one which I hope only remains relevant through spring or summer.

I'm tempted to wait for Penryn, but Nehalem, I don't think so. I hope you like the laptop you have now, cos you're going to be waiting for another 2 years. Then again, I can't talk, because I've had my cube for well over six years now...

EDIT: Ah. You have a 2Ghz Macbook. Of course you would wait until Nehalem. If you had a MBP, you'd probably wait until Nehalem-C (32nm shrink of Nehalem). And of course expect a 256-core R800 :)

I'm dying for one. I just got a new job that will make it very affordable for me to get one. It will also be my first mac.

Yeah you pick up and leave your old job after convincing me to wait for Santa Rosa, I see how it is. There, joined your thread, bring on Santa Rosa ;-)

This might be a MacBook of everybodys' dreams:

2.16Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
Matte Screen or Glossy Screen option
ATI Radeon X1300
100GB Flash Drive (no need for harddrive)
2GB RAM
Same Price as the Middle MacBook Model

I think we need a sub-forum called the Official Waiters Lounge for all these threads. Sticky the mid-range tower, the iPhone, and each platform, processor on the roadmap.

Isn't it closer to a year and a half? Last I heard, Nehalem would be out in mid-late 2008.

I want a Santa Rosa iMac with Leopard. I've held out for 5 years on my iMac G4 700mhz. I'm getting the itch for something new.

I waiting for new MBs and MBPs, but not because of the hardware. I would buy the current gen, but I would rather wait to get Leopard and iLife 07 preinstalled.

Is this for real?

I am waiting and I am so freaking Pumped. This is the labtop of my dreams.

My biggest problem is if I want the 15 inch or if the come out with a sub 15 inch pro. Literally, I daily switch back in forth from one or the other. As long as I can choose a Matte Screen, I'll be happy with a 15 inch or smaller.

waiting

been waiting for 2 months already, really hope it's a may release with leopard in it hopefully...

I am waiting to see what enhancements will be in the next revision, but it will have to be more than just flash memory, a better graphics card and LED displays for me to upgrade (even though that in itself is tempting).

EXACTLY....They are going to have to do more then SR, 64bit intel before I will buy a new computer sorry but the 17" 1.5 is smoking.:p

I:rolleyes: hope you are wrong, but it does make sense to me too.

Apple already is waiting awhile longer than they used to with the "in stores now" computers, so if they aren't ready to ship don't expect Apple to say much on the notebooks.

With the expanded market, it would take Apple a long time to get over an initial 250-500k notebook backlog for an all new platform.

However, waiting on the Mac Pros or mentioning them as they go into production wouldn't be too far out of the equation -- and there should be enough new software to make people happy.

Still waiting for Apple to "break people of the habit" of expecting machines at the shows.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think you can get a 2.16Ghz second gen Merom. They all use a 800Mhz FSB now and the new socket P chips (the santa rosa ones) go 2.0, 2.2, 2.4 and 2.6Ghz (with a 2.8 extreme version due in Q3).

So hopefully the MacBooks will be updraged to 2.0 and 2.2 while the MBPs get the 2.4 and 2.6Ghz C2Ds. I think there is a 1.8Ghz socket P Merom though, so they may not.

I've been looking into getting a Mac ever since they announced the Intel transition and I think that when Santa Rosa, Leopard and iLife/iWork 07 are released is the perfect time to buy.

Hopefully we'll see a resolution bump accross the line along with the LED displays.

I can't wait!

EDIT: And since it's the trend here is what I'm looking for/expecting:

MID MacBook
13.3' 1440*900 LED display
2.2Ghz C2D
1Gb RAM
80Gb (maybe 120 if we're lucky) HDD
X3000 integrated graphics

Anyone think this is unreasonable? I'll BTO to 2Gb of RAM and a 160Gb HDD, obviously...

in the past does anyone know how long it took apple from announcement of macs to pre-order and then to actual shipping?
becaus ei could absolutely wait for SR until around june or so, but if thats hwne it's going to be announced and not be shipped until september or somethign like that i don't know that may change a lot of things...

I'm sorry to inject a note of stupidity into this thread, but I have a question about Santa Rosa and the mini. I know that Santa Rosa is intended as for portables, but since the MacBook and minis have shared the same processor in the past--and I sure wish the mini would be updated to C2D already!--does anyone expect the mini to get an immediate Santa Rosa update as well?

Yes, Mac Mini will get the Santa Rosa platform.

I don't think so. It seems to me that Apple uses the Mac Mini to run through their stock of old motherboards and processors.

When the laptops / iMac move to Santa Rosa, then Apple will put all their remaining C2D stocks into the Mac Mini.

There are even some suggestions that Apple may discontinue the Mac Mini, hence the lack of recent updates.

Apple have a history of replacing their bestselling models and terminating the stragglers.
