I don't see how 1GB is really helpful. I mean, the OS probably won't even fit! So what happens if you want to stick commonly used applications on it?
So, firstly, does anyone know if it is possible to have more than one? I mean, is it possible that the MBP could have two 1 GB Flash memory cards? Or more?
1GB flash card today. 128GB flash card tomorrow. I've noticed that new computer technologies are always slightly disappointing when first introduced and take a few years to get going.
I remember when a DX 486 120mhz was faster than a Pentium 586 90mhz, and people were saying the pentiums were *****. Look how far the Pentium came since then.
And secondly, off topic, but does anyone know if you can do a RAM disk in OSX like you could in 9? Because that is the kind of thing I see Robson being used for. User picks a commonly used app, sticks it in the flash memory, and it loads and runs at a much higher speed.
No. OS X manages the memory far better than you could. If you want an app to open quickly, leave it open in the background/ in the Dock. The OS will take care of all the RAM / Flash shuffling.
Even when RAM disks were around, with OS9's primitive memory management, there was some debate over their disadvantage of taking away valuable main memory space.
