went to the apple store today and they said there is no diffrence between the 15" and the 17" screens. They are both LED backlights. So my question is... is this the screen that everyone was hoping for? Everyone was talking about LED screens... and this mysterious order of 15 inch LED screens. I am confused. I am getting the 17" with the higher res screen anyway... Can't wait.

17" MBP are NOT LED...It's just the 15" that got the LED.

There is no difference between the screens. Screens are still LCD. The backlighting on the 15" was changed to LED.

Then i was misinformed at the apple store. I was told that the backlighting was the same for the 17" and the 15 inch. Hmmm... I hate when sales people are unsure of things and just tell you what you want to hear.

A few months back, I was in the local Apple store with a friend, and we ended up discussing the MBP case. I commented it was aluminum. Shortly after, a member of staff came over and was resetting various machines back to their display state, quitting programs, etc. My friend asked if the case on the MBP was aluminum and the staffer replied "no". My friend asked what it was made of and the response he got was "I don't know but it's not aluminum."

This was a saturday, so I guess it's possible it was just some college kid with a Saturday job, but it's still not terribly impressive, given it's a specialist store.

umpf, that would be me.

to my defense, a lot is going on in my life right now so i had no time to care about a new mac. i have still a G4 Powerbook and a G4 emac. all office and ilife stuff works great so there is no real need to upgrade right now. i finally decided to hold off from buying a new macbook/macbook pro till end 2008 unless something earth shattering happens (like a quad core penryn solid state HD 13inch macbook pro). but that would be not before 2009 anyway:D.

anyway, buy end 2008 the macbook (pro) will be about 8 times faster than my powerbook. at that time little increases in speed by montevina or whatever won't matter to me. and leopard should be rock solid and superfast.

the people who have been waiting for the Penryn in January will be taken over again on June

and the June buyers will be taken over again in the coming jan 2009 MWSF

and so on and so on ...

:p:D
