Re:

I don't know about SR. Lookin at some reviews on the internet there hasn't been too much performance gain on the PC side. The only real benefits are, standard 802.11n which the the macbook/pro already have, and the marginally better integrated vid processor.

I have yet to take the Apple plunge but it looks more and more likely. I'll admit, just to try something new. However. If I've waited this long without a MacBook I think I'll wait just a little longer to get one that is really a step above what is available today. I'll be waiting for Penryn, the new ATI HD video card, and Leopard. I think of all these Leopard would be the most tempting as a stand alone upgrade but as a package what would be really enticing. Montevina is about a year away and I doubt Apple would wait that long for a refresh but if all they are going to do is refresh the MacBook to SR then I would rather wait until then.

If Leopard is released in October/November that would mean that Montevina would just be around the corner. So, until Apple releases these things in a new MacBook I'll be waiting just a little bit longer to take the Apple plunge.

So it's looking like SR in the MB/P will probably be around WWDC then (or so the majority is saying). though I wouldn't mind it sooner!:D Though I'll probably go with an MBP if the MB doesn't get SR around WWDC.

BTW- thx for the help grandmaster, but I believe the subtitle on my name would beg to differ :D

A new MBP is what I'm holding out for at the WWDC as well, with SR and a DX10 graphics card, then I'll be happy. :D

Forgot about the subtitles lol, I didn't even know mine had changed from newbie to member, need to pay more attention!

For those interested, I have found a HD 2600XT M bench here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=122090

They say the 2600XT got 4000 in 3Dmark 06, while the Geforce 8600M GS got 2500. But chances are, if Apple does use one of the new GPUs, it will be the regular 2600 model (which has lower clocks than the XT version). This is because, from looking at ATI's site, the regular 2600 seems to be aimed at more compact notebooks (like the MBP), while the XT version is aimed at those big gaming laptops.

As a comparison, the X1600 gets 1800 in 3Dmark 06.

The thread linked is also claiming that the HDX model had the card clocked to near desktop speeds. Which we know Apple won't be able to do.

How long will the wait between Rev.A to Rev.B be for the SR MBPs? I want a MBP asap, but if its only a week between the two then It might be worth the wait to avoid RevA problems....

IS there that big of a difference?

Since the Intel switch, Apple isn't really doing the same revision things as they did with the Powerbooks. The last few powerbooks were just minor revisions because IBM never came out with anything new. Intel is releasing new stuff every 6-9 months so Apple is updating to that stuff. Once they put that newest chip in, there's no more revisions to make until the next chip is out. Some people have been bitching because the Macbook Pros havent been updated since October with the Core 2 Duos, but Intel hasn't released any new hardware for them to update it to, so they can't update it.

Disappointed!, the speed of the HD2900XT isnt even enough to beat the 8800gts in some tests, like 3dmark06. But now we might get the MBP on tuesday, and hopefully the mobile hd2600 is better then the 8600m:) .

Is Hiro Nakamura on the board? You can't predict these things - there's too much luck & random factors involved. With the original MacBook Pro they went through five revisions in just a few months. If you had waited for Rev D, you still would have gotten screwed. Other computer models had no problems at all.

I personally like to see the product in a store before I purchase (although I always buy online). You take a little risk when you're first in line to buy, but you're also the first guy on your block with the new product. How important is that to you? It's a tradeoff.

But if you get a lemon, at least Apple has the best service in the industry.

My MBP was stolen two weeks ago. Insurance check is in the mail and needs to be spent soon. I doubt this laptop comes out tomorrow. But next week would be nice...

Does AppleCare cover stolen products? if not what type of insurance did you put on your MBP that pays if its stolen?

I can't wait. Soon I will be all over these board asking all kinds of noob questions about my new laptop.

yeah I'm with all you guys I can't take it any more, the sooner I can get my MBP the better. I found out last night that I'll have no need to boot windows b/c some great people released mac programs for everything I need! (I have a Creative Zen Vision M player and previously I would have had to boot windows solely for that player, but now iDon't have to!!(sorry for the bad pun I couldn't help myself:p )) needless to say I'm ordering an updated MBP as soon as it comes out! PLEASE be before WWDC (as if that makes it get here any sooner... :) )

Doesn't look like that will happen as I just stated here.

if they do actually release a new MBP tomorrow...will it go on at midnight? or at some point during the day?

No the store is usually updated between 10 and 12 AM PT, so depends where you are.
And on the other note why do you whant high end graphic card in MBP?? Its not gaming machine! And even with card that now is in (1600) diablo is pretty decent

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

So, 10-12 PM "PT"...what is PT? PST (GMT -8)?

Just throwing this out there. Best buy online looks as thought they are sold out on Macbooks except for the 17"MBP. Could that be another clue to an iminent refresh?
