OK Your new MP just arrived. What will you be using as a display for this bad boy?

I plan on sticking with the TB for at least a little while until more options are presented.
 
like a dumb ass I sold my TB display convinced they would at least update it with 3.0 and TB2 for Mac Pro release.

Im going to wait till I have nMP in hand and then see whats out.

If that were today Id pick up two of the new Dell 4k UP2414Q
 
my dual Dell 24" monitors that have been humming along for the past several years.

Next year might get the Dell 28 4k, IF the reviews on it are good.

This is exactly what I have and what I plan on doing. Or wait another year to see how much cheaper the 4k market gets. But I think a 28" 4k monitor would be really nice eventually.
 
Just a run of a mill 24" Dell display. The machine will be used for post production, so the actual computer display isn't the main event, it just shows the application interface. All critical judgement of footage happens from external video monitoring (courtesy of an UltraStudio 4K), in this case an HP Dreamcolor as an up-close monitor on the desk, and a cinema projector throwing a 16 foot image on the screen at the front of the room.

Yep, need to see how those new Dells are. Really happy with the ones that I have now though.
 
ugg, i was going to buy a tb display but forgot it is glossy??. Does that work ok for most people, and what is it like on location for digi tech work? that nec looks sweet
 
well since it's not shipping till at least february :rolleyes: I have some time to decide. Hopefully we will see a new TB display

I can't speak to on-location digi tech work, but I also use a 2013 27" iMac with basically the same glossy screen as the TB display and I can vouch that it is beautiful to look at. Reflections aren't really an issue unless light is shining directly on your screen and if that was the case, you would have a location problem.

Matte vs. glossy is probably more of a personal preference. Glossy could have some issues with distracting reflections, but images may also feel brighter/more vibrant. I know that I can sit in front of a matte screen for 16+ hours a day without much eye fatigue, but I don't know that I could say the same about a glossy screen.
 
Do all Dells have the AG coating, don't want to have the screen door effect on the text

Yes I am in same boat you are in .... I'm gonna stick with my 2 30in apple displays until something GOOD comes out.

Won't you have a HDCP issues using the 30" ACD with the nMP? (Not be able to watch HD videos, for example?)

I do already with my 30" ACD and my Mac Pro 3,1...

I suppose that's theoretically possible. I never encounter any HDCP protected content in real life, but I suppose if I ever did it might be an issue. I watch BluRays and iTunes movies on my television, not on my computer. Is that what you're doing that poses problems?
 
I'm planning to keep using my display port Apple Cinema Display.

My nMP delivering in February.

I also will be watching for the shake out after the 4k wars.

Ditto (close anyway). I recently purchased an NEC 271 at closeout prices when the PA272 came out. My current iMac doesn't support 2560x1440, so I am really excited to see it at full resolution.

Same here. I really don't want an ugly monitor on my desk.

And while I have two monitors, I think I'll only upgrade one for now. One of my monitors is for viewing video and it's all 1080p at best right now.
 
I would like a new Apple display too - but

I currently have an older iMac so I'm stuck in the middle.

Can't bring myself to buy the current Thunderbolt.

I would be kicking myself if I jump on a new Dell and 2 moths down the road they pop a new Apple display.
