If the Magic Keyboard could also lose quite a bit of heft, there might actually be some argument against just getting a laptop — and I say this as someone who has a current 12.9 + Magic Keyboard instead of a laptop. But I do recognize there's not much of a logical reason to get this setup over a MacBook.

But OLED + substantially thinned down could help.

BUT also, like, I already get worried enough as it is my iPad is going to get bent.

I was at the Apple store and I told them I didn't like it and the rep said "you're right, our stuff is crap" and then everyone clapped. That rep's name? Steve Jobs.
Thought you’d go for the old Norm Macdonald line…

”And who was this rep? You guessed it… Frank Stallone.”

Looks like speaker holes on the long side now, and a UBS - C port in the middle of the long side. Maybe the Apple Pencil interface is now on the short side ? Surprised no comments on that apparent change.
Nice catch! Landscape iPad 😍😍

With this level of aggressive innovation, one can only imagine what iPad Pro v43 will be like!

How thick will the camera tumor be by then I wonder?

There have been rumors that there will be a hardware change in the A-series chip for the next iPhone, dramatically increasing the Neural Engine core count. That will eventually percolate over to the M-series chips—too late for the hypothetical Early 2024 iPad release.
Maybe, maybe not. Apple tends to incorporate the features it wants into its hardware early on, but may not expose it in the OS until it's ready to expose it.

One example of this was HEVC support in the iPhone 6 with A8. They did actually expose it in FaceTime and then suddenly stopped talking about it, and I wonder if it was because of licensing issues. Then they reintroduced it with A9, but not until years later. A9 was introduced in 2015, but HEVC support on A9 wasn't introduced until 2017.

I am guessing my Magic Keyboard will be rendered useless ??
It will work great with the existing models. However, I'd say there is a 99% chance the current Magic Keyboard won't fit the OLED iPad Pro.

What? That doesn't look like that to me. The speaker grills remain on the short sides, where they should be for landscape mode.

the plans of the side view show the rear camera on the left at the front edge, so either the plans are wrong or my observation is accurate

I don't know what you're talking about. The rear camera position hasn't moved.

So the camera hasn't been moved to landscape? 😢😢
#1 there is absolutely nothing in this render that indicates that, one way or the other.
#2 while the 10th gen iPad indicates that Apple agrees that the front camera should be placed on the long side so that it is center-top for landscape use...the 10th iPad also doesn't have the Apple Pencil magnetic attachment/charging in the same location. It remains to be seen if its even possible for those things to coexist.

Chassis looks the same. Speakers and port still on short side but can’t tell if the port is still on the right side or not because you would see the rear camera bulge either way in pics like this

Is that even what that is? It's just a pill shaped outline. More than likely it's just the Apple Pencil spot.

Really looking forward to it. I’ve always disliked this narrative of making the iPad a boring Mac-like device. I like that the iPad evolves in its own iPad way, which is what has made it a great success. And thinness and lightness is a big factor of that.
Well many people seem to want a boring Mac-like device...

Microsoft came along with surface... and 5 or so years later Apple released their own take on it.

Sometimes the most boring of devices gets the job done... what I do on a device is way more exciting than the device itself.. which I just want to be simple, functional and reliable.

Sure, some people like and therefore buy the Surface, but magnitudes of order more prefer the iPad. The iPad-like concept was successful against the tablet-PC concept. And even the iPad Pro remains a very different device compared to the Surface (I wouldn’t say it’s a take on it). I’d say the iPad is Apple’s device that better fits your definition of “simple, functional and reliable”.

The Surface as a general windows device has way more functionality than an iPad... and just as reliable. Ive had both in the past 10 years.

The larger iPad Pro already has durability concerns... unless they are reinforcing the design by making changes internally, or changes to the materials composition, I don't think this is going to do too well if not handled very carefully.

I actually bought an iPad Air 5 a couple years ago and returned it as it was actually creaking when I picked it up and moved it... the Apple rep didn't seem surprised when I mentioned it and my iPad Air 4 by comparison was rock solid and has never creaked, even now.

And those are smaller than the larger iPad Pro

I guess people would prefer they keep the current design and fill with more battery if possible.. as iPads have actually lagged MacBooks now for quite some time on the battery life metric.
Not sure what durability concerns. My iPad 13 Pro has been rock solid for durability and it is going on three years with constant usage.

Excited they are making it thinner. Totally awesome!

Your iPad Pro might have a bend, but it's not a defect. Its a feature :)

Im glad, I hope you will buy the new model when it releases. There is likely to be a new Magic Keyboard too.

Never had it bend either. Rock solid. 🙂

I am an instant buy on the new iPad Pro 13 and the Magic Keyboard. Since my Pro 12.9 is 3 years old, it is time for a real upgrade! Excited!

Strange that the 11" gets taller but narrower - kinda thought it would be the other way if they are moving the camera. I really hope they aren't changing the aspect ratio. It is one reason why I returned my Samsung Galaxy Tab 9. Even though it was 11" as was slightly better for viewing video everything else suffered.
Two words: Dynamic Island 😅
