Apple creating foldable devices, whether they want to or not.
oh well - people said that about my 2018 iPP as well and here we are almost six years later - used a straightedge recently to check the mechanical linearity - after traveling probably 3 .. 4x around the globe with me in harsh conditions and lots of meetings it's still as flat as a light beam in the gravitational field of the earth 🤣🤣
Not that these are deal breakers but it would have been nice if instead of going thin they got rid of the camera bump, that way you can lie it flat and use the pencil on it.

Plus, 3 pin connector still there - I know a while ago there had been rumours of more connectors to increase the functionality of a new MK - seems not this time.
ah well - cant have it all - the cameras inside the iPads are almost never used by me and I guess from many others too. But it's there in case you'll have to scan a document or document any topic and your smartphone is empty or on your desk 5 minutes away.
What wold have been the increase in functional that can't be done via BT or WiFi ( 7 ) ?

There will be no new iPP within the upcoming 1 ½ .. 2 years

uhm... looks so sexy! I wanted to replace my old iPad this year, but I think oled's will be out of my what-i-consider-reasonable-for-a-tablet budget.

Looks like speaker holes on the long side now, and a UBS - C port in the middle of the long side. Maybe the Apple Pencil interface is now on the short side ? Surprised no comments on that apparent change.
The CAD drawings are still showing the speakers and USB port on the short side. That's why there haven't been comments.

then the plans are wrong as the orientation clearly shows the rear camera in upper left corner, and thus a "long side view"
Learn to read technical drawings if you're going to comment on them. the speaker ports and usb port are very clearly shown on the short edge, just like where it is now on all ipads.

As impressive as this is, part of me wishes they would just make up the difference with increased battery capacity. I love my M1 iPad Pro, but wish it went a little longer on a single charge.

The only reason for it to be so thin is to make it closer to the weight of a lid of a laptop when you connect the iPad to a keyboard case. This way it's not so top heavy and better balanced.

Besides that, there are definite compromises with being super thin. Less space for battery and easier to bend comes to mind. And believe me, the bending is a real thing. My iPad Pro 11" is in a thick Logitech combo touch case 24/7 and it still has slight curve if I remove the case to check it.

If these new iPads keep aluminum casing of the same composition as current iPad Pro models then they will twist and bend like hell since Apple couldnt care less in making structurally more sound and durable devices that dont come pre-warped from factory.
Oh and that big ugly camera bump is just horrible, its bad and useless enough on current crop of iPad Pro's, now imagine how ugly will it look on even thinner iPads!

will it be the same shape just thinner? Trying to decide if I should get one now... can get some referb ones or maybe even a galaxy plus tab for 500..

If they can fit Face ID in such a thin device they better add it to the MacBook pros this fall.
The MacBook Pro's lid is half the depth of the iPad, even with this reduction in thickness. The FaceID dot projector already takes up prettymuch the entire depth of an iPhone or iPad's thickness because it relies on casting the dots through a prism. FaceID would work in an iMac but a MacBook Air/Pro's lid is just too thin for the optics necessary.

I love thin. Hopefully this rumour pans out as the OLED Samsung tabs are thinner than the current iPads so I’m sure this all adds up. Anyways, they better use 7000 series aluminum (we know they won’t) lest a new warp gate ensues. Best to keep it in your Magic Keyboard either way.

I could justify spending iPad Pro money on yet another iPad if it had MacOS on it, but after all these years of ipads and kluges moving work between them & Macs, it's probably the only thing Apple has left to do that's exciting enough to make my bank account involuntarily puke up money. Oh well.

iPads have a surface area approaching that of a MacBook, yet needs to be comfortably held in the hands for extended periods—that's its big differentiator from the clamshell that's supported by a desk or lap. (And also why the philosophy of the Magic Keyboard bugs me a little, but that's another story.) The "thicc with batteries" approach just doesn't work for iPads.

I also have doubts about it being easier to bend (as happened with the 2018 one). I hope it is better reinforced or uses a stronger aluminum.

Other than that, aesthetically it looks very similar. I was expecting perhaps a slightly bigger change, slightly more rounded corners (like on the iPhone). The connector is still in the same place, so I don't think there will be MagSafe (for that it would have to be glass on the back). The camera gives the feeling of being somewhat larger than in the current model.

However, I'm curious about the front screen: will it have smaller bezels?, will it use a notch, like the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra?, will it be the first to incorporate FaceID under the screen? and, will it be the first to incorporate FaceID under the screen?

What gaming changing AI features would you expect? Look at Siri and comparison of AI features between Google and Apple. Chances are, you won't be missing out on much.
There are rumours on this site about specific AI features on the iPhone 16 will get due to hardware. I’ve no idea what they will be, or even if it’s true (this is a rumours site after all) but it is at least logical and in line with apple’s history. They are likely to want as many selling points/features to make the iPhone 16 be as strong a reason to upgrade as possible; therefore at least claiming only it’s hardware can do something amazing is very likely. This would then logically mean that this amazing thing WONT be possible on the 2024 iPad Pro which was only just released that year and yet top of the line.
Hence my now nerves about getting one. Naturally tech always moves forward and you buy what you have in that moment, but this does seem more risky than normal.

It looks exactly the same as the current 6 year old design...

Just thinner.

Sometimes I wonder how Apple keeps selling the same tired designs year after year, then I come on here and see these comments and understand how.

I happen to have an iPad Pro 2018 and it's in pristine condition with no bending. I almost abused it over the past 5 ½ years traveling a lot - it has been my workhorse for this time. I can see to excessive bending in forums and all people that posted here about the 2018 iPP confirmed my observation.
This was ( again ) a hoax in the internet. Of course you can bend everything - even light rays - provided the gravity is strong enough 🤣

Yes - of course - it's macRUMORS.com - let's see how this will work out?

Apple marketing is not stupid - they would upset many people in case 2024 sold products would not be compatible to 2024 software upgrades and Apple is selling older iPhones normally alongside the new ones - just have a look at their website - even the iPhone 13 and SE are still being sold by Apple - I guess most of the recent iPhones will get the fully fledged ML features

therefore at least claiming only it’s hardware can do something amazing is very likely. This would then logically mean that this amazing thing WONT be possible on the 2024 iPad Pro which was only just released that year and yet top of the line.

Normally the iPP is being sold for several years with almost identical design - look at the iPP 2018 and 2020 - which are virtually identical with the A12X and A12Z µICs

It would be totally enological if the iPP would not get the feature and the MBPs of the similar generation.
The neural engine gets stronger and stronger from generation to generation.

I see no reason to exclude older hardware - BUT I am sure the camera and video compartment will be different. Apple is anyway concentrating on enhancing the image and video segment - which is completely different on tablets.

I am fine in case Apple adds to the imaging and video segment features that are only relevant for the latest models - this has always been the case. I don't use the camera on a tablet for things where ML could make a lot of sense - I mainly photograph ( aka scan ) documents that I need for travel cost reimbursement or similar things.

Yes - the iPhone will get new ML features for that department older will will not get - the rest of the ML features will probably applied for all devices that have a neural engine on board - even the iPP 2018 will get it since it has roughly ¼ of the neural engine power as the M3 - still very nice after almost six years of using it - and the iPP 2018 will get the new iPadOS

A spade still looks the same way as 50 years ago - some tried to make it look different like a ball or a triangle - yet it did not work very well to be honest 🤣

Some things have after a wild evolutionary journey an almost perfect shape - the initial iPad was a milestone but bulky and heavy and not very powerful - luckily things have changed to the better and I for one are extremely happy with my iPP 2018 - thinner and lighter are the only things I'd want from a new design beside the inner values of battery life and of course computational power and display - exactly what we're about to get in a few weeks.

I am a day one buyer of the 4 TB option ( in case we'll get one )
