If Samsung make Z fold 6 wider like one plus open and make it thinner I’m sure people will think it’s perfect certainly if they get S pen inside the device or at least working on front display
Forget the S-Pen inside the Fold. They want to make it thinner.

I do alot of things.

1. I own a construction company and am on jobsites quite frequently.
2. I spend alot of my time on my boat and have got my phone wet plenty of times.
3. I have a pool that I spend alot of time in, even in winter.
4. I have kids. Kids are known to spill things and mess things up that are around.
5. I like to drink beer. That tends to mess things up as well.
6. I go to the beach a few times a year
7. I coach kids' sports teams. I've had the ole gatorade shower a time or two.
8. I hunt alot and spend alot of time outdoor. Occasionally I have got caught out in the rain.
9. I ski alot in the winter. Nice to have peace of mind there as well.

I could go on and on. There's a reason water resistance became mainstream on flagship devices. Not everyone needs it but quite a few people do. The wireless charging is not necessarily a deal breaker but I have wireless chargers everywhere. In my truck, office, just about every room in my house. It sure is convenient to have.
Thanks! I was just checking. I was curious why IPX ratings were such a big deal for lot of the people on here.

As much as I desire a silo for the S-Pen... if it sacrifices battery performance, I'd rather Samsung scrap the idea entirely.

I think Samsung Ultra series with the silo are already intertwined and it will be pointless for Samsung to go against the grain by removing the silo, but it's a whole new situation for the Galaxy Fold. I'm perfectly content with carrying the S-Pen separately.

Forget the S-Pen inside the Fold. They want to make it thinner.
Completely agree... that's one of the biggest issues with foldables, the bulkiness of it.

I believe it's the peace of mind when going out to the beach or water park... they can carry their device and not worry about water damage.

And on the topic of wireless charging... it's the convenience factor. Being able to just place their phone on the wireless charger and go about their way.
Thank you.

Just last week I was at the beach with my foldable phone. I didn't think twice about water or sand getting in it. Of course I wasn't in the actual water with it, just hanging out in the sand. I guess I didn't realize how dangerous that could be.

Wireless charging terrible on iOS? Exactly the opposite situation. Stop in an Apple store and there’s magsafe pucks on every single table and magsafe multidevice charging stands all over from partners like Belkin, Otterbox and Mophie. All the phones are displayed on what are essentially magsafe stands. The magsafe charging accessories they discontinued the magsafe battery and magsafe duo, but only because they both used lightning cables. I’ll wager you see usb-C versions out sometime in the next year.

Wireless charging would be a deal breaker for me. I have magsafe or standard Qi chargers all over the house. My wife’s car has a wireless charging area. Heck, I stuck a magsafe style metal ring to my Pixel Fold case so that I could charge it wirelessly using any of my magsafe style wireless chargers.

Only time I ever plug in my phone is when I’m in my car (no wireless charger) and don’t even do that much of the time on short trips as I have wireless Apple CarPlay.
Thank you for the explanation!

Yeah, he’s definitely the go-to person when it comes to foldable experience since he daily drives them. And I’m really thrilled about the foldable market currently... the OnePlus Open is an awesome device then there’s the Pixel Fold which is impressive in its own right.

Both have done pretty good on their first attempt and according to his vid... He plans to make the OnePlus Open his next foldable, looking forward to more vids from him documenting his experience.

Cancelled my order and decided to stick with Z fold 5. Think it would be a bad investment at this stage for me. It's great though and a good step forward for foldables in main markets. I will wait to see what fold 6 brings to see if i will upgrade that in august.

To be fair though i don't think this foldable is targeted really towards current Z fold 5 owners

Yeah seen that report. certainly disappointing that they are going same cameras yet again.

That said if they can make it lighter and thinner with a wider front display i think people will see that as a success.
Count me part of that group… give me a lighter, thinner and wider front display that would be good enough for me.

In this current cycle that we are in… companies are not going to go all out on a next generation device, but I do hope there’s more to the Fold 6 especially if they not going to improve on the camera tech. Perhaps, eliminating the crease… um brighter display.

I agree, heck… you can place Pixel Fold users in that group as well. OpenPlus Open is a worthy competitor, but I think Fold 5 and Pixel Fold users are content where they are at.

I think it’s targeted toward those who are out to get their 1st foldable experience. Well, maybe not first… but they might think the Pixel Fold outer (cover) display is too wide and not feeling the inner bezels. And obviously, some don’t like the narrow outer display on Galaxy Fold.

Basically, those who are not into a Galaxy Fold or Pixel Fold… then yeah it’s for them.

I personally like the height of my Pixel Fold but I can definitely adjust to a normal phone size like the OnePlus...lighter phone and wider than Samsung most definitely..

Hypothetically speaking, if Pixel Fold kept it’s same form factor for next generation and Fold 6 redesigned their form factor similar to OnePlus Open… which one would you gravitate toward? Because I was under the impression Pixel users care more about the software aesthetics… it’s not necessarily hardware dependent.

That's a tough decision for me haha .. I totally prefer the pixel UI with all Google magic... using the P8P just hammered home how much I enjoy the experience..I've enjoyed Samsung too though and love all the tweaks and options but if I had to choose one I'd take a Pixel if the upgrade was worth it.. But if you know me I will probably jump on the next Samsung foldable lol.. especially since I plan on keeping the regular Pixel phone in my rotation..

if this year is anything to go by it may have same screen brightness as the S24 line so maybe 2500 nits.

i don't know why i dislike the front display so much as my usage is open anyway i think it's just because i used the pixel fold. I would use the front display more where currently i never use it really.

I find the GPF way too short when open. I fully expect it to be taller in the next generation. However I do think the width of the GPF's cover screen is best because it gives you the best sized keyboard. Just keep that wide cover screen and make it taller. I wish the OPO's cover screen was as wide as the GPF's. One of my favorite things about my iPhone 15 Plus is how wide it is. Makes typing a pleasure. Even more so than my previous iPhone, the 14 Pro.

And that's what I'm trying to explain... people claim it's a bogus take. But the way Samsung approached the Galaxy Fold... they want foldable users to use the inner display more. But the problem with their approach they need to provide a sense of balance... the outer display is just too narrow.

But If I had a regular size phone as a foldable... then psychologically I would stay more on that side of the fence. Obviously, I'll get a bigger display when I unfold it.. but I'll grow content with using the outside display. And again, there's nothing wrong with wanting it regularly size... but Samsung method was the outer (cover) display was a means for quick interaction.

Personally, I like GPF the way it is.. i like that 5.8 inch display. Making it taller... you then lose the landscape orientation when unfolded.

If Samsung had to copy either the OPO or GPF... I'd say the GPF, primarily for multitasking since two windows (apps) side by side looks better in landscape orientation. In addition to that, tablet apps look better in landscape orientation (two column layout).

Starting price in the US is $1,499 for this phone. OnePlus support confirmed that you can trade in any device for the $200...phone can get cracked, old, etc....basically anything. I asked if I could trade in my old Nexus 5, and they said yes. So, this makes this deal even better.

Fold5 - $1,799
GPF - $1,799
OnePlus Open - $1,499

1,266.05 with Pixel 7 Pro trade-in. That's so crazy to me. You're in like in the standard flagship ballpark here with the same 512GB. I wasn't seriously considering this but that deal is something. Only thing is deliver slipped from October 31 to December 3 now.

Seems only downside cod the open is lack of carrier being involved so it's certainly paying out .

Shame more places won't sell it. Here it's certainly one plus site only

I see a few problems with it but one might be regional.

One is the thickness, that camera bump really makes the phone thicker than rivals. No wireless charging is annoying especially when using Android Auto, using it wirelessly drains the battery quite a bit if you aren’t charging and normally I wouldn’t even have cables in the car.

The (maybe) regional problem is price and price of insurance. The Fold 5 can be had with or without 1 years insurance for about 25% less than the similar option for the OnePlus Open because of availability of a variety of discounts (student, alumni, company, benefit portals).

You know what, just cause my signature no longer doesn't say I have an iPhone, you could at least search my previous posts of the early half of the year and KNOW I'm a former Apple iPhone, iPad and Mac user for several years.

I've owned iphones since the 3GS and most recently the iPhone mind's BOTH the 12 and 13 and back tot he 12 before switching in late August.

I know all too well about Apple's MagSafe first hand. Using going into a store and seeing iphones on display or their partners list for this accessory in no way is a good rebuttal to what I stated:

Apple's MagSafe is terrible for charging as three is a LOT of energy leakage that overheats non-pro models especially the minis!!

Take a look by searching the threads for 12/13 mini 's and MagSafe charging. Go'head I'll wait and you'll see a multiple set of owners and previous owners using various brands (non-official, stronger magnets than official, and official 1st party/2nd party- partner magsafe chargers and how it affects their batteries in less than a year dropping form 100% down to 83-88% in under 7 months!!

This isn't conjecture nor is it falsehoods or folly I'm stating.

The fact Apple came out with their own branded MagSafe charger and in just under 15mths roughly its discontinued with no replacement. I cannot even remember if any other Apple product was axed so quickly (G4 Cube even lasted longer in sales I think). Can you recall any dropped with no replacement faster by Apple?

Lastly recall during announcement if MagSafe Apple claimed to have released a 3 device charger intended to spare the industry partners in accessories to make tbeie own products. That product had been reported so often as having issues with heat for over a year before reports of it. Wing canceled indefinitely. Yet a smaller accessory partner, belkin got it fone
