update: last night at 51%, this morning at 43%.
so since it dropped 29% during the day yesterday so I'd expect it to be 10-15% by eo day today.
Optimized charging will be turned off
thinking this thru a bit more, I think I will leave optimized on and see if it charges again to 80%, then contact Apple and see what they have to say about draining below 20% ...

as of right now, battery just dropped to 10% and I got the prompt to turn on low power mode. It’s going on the charger now…

So much for an “optimized” charge limit …

On my Ultra 1 I have never been hitting the 10% threshold, not even close…

Charged to 80% …

My Ultra 2 started limited it charge to 80% for a few days and then quit and went back to charging to 100%. I go to bed and wake about the same time everyday but it will not go back to the 80% charge limit.
Same issue here: mine was charging to 80%, it still shows the restricted charging circle when I put it on the charger but the last 2 nights it has charged to 100% despite that. Assuming it’s a bug so have filed feedback on it.

I appreciate everyone sharing their experiences. As a day one Ultra 2 owner mine still charges to 100% nightly even though I’ve never fallen below 50% since owning it. I’m not sure what it looks for exactly, but I’d have expected it to only go to 80% at this point. Here’s hoping 10.1 fixed it. Anyone in the beta able to confirm?

what's your charging pattern?
It goes on the charger around 10 pm every night and is removed from the charger around 6-7 am. It worked and then it did not work. Last night it even showed the partial charging circle but woke up and it was at 100 %!

Optimized charging remains broken on my Ultra 2 . . . . .

So far I have not had the optimized charge limit come on yet since the 10.1 update, but am wondering if the update basically starts the watch over for having to learn my patterns. Hope someone has some luck and it becomes clear this bug has been fixed.

I would expect a full “learning cycle”…
I might turn it back on at some point to see what happens…

10.1 did not get mine working, still charging to 100%! Hopefully a new “learning cycle” will make a difference. We shall see.

My SE2 still doesn’t have this feature working and I’m on 10.1 now too. It worked ONCE a few weeks ago. Literally one night. Since then it charges 100% immediately. Every. Single. Night. How can Apple devs themselves with Apple Watches not notice this?

My Ultra 1 was stopping charging at 75 or 80% consistently for a long time... I've noticed recently it keeps charging to 100% every night now. Not sure why it has changed, although I had some done some traveling which perhaps changed the consistency of my charge patterns.
Just noticed mine finally went back to charging only up to 75/80% last night. Updated to 10.1 the night before.

My Ultra 2 showed the 80% charge ring exactly one time... and that’s the night when I put it on the charger so it could update to 10.1. Hasn’t done it again since. Charges to 100% immediately every time. Dunno. Not going to worry about it. The battery life on the Ultra is good enough, even with (guesstimated) two or three years worth of degradation, to last more than all day, so I don’t anticipate any issues in the expected lifetime of my upgrade cycle.

That is a good point and I agree with my usage and upgrade cycle too. Just annoying. Especially since the 80% limit just came to the iPhone as a hard setting and it would be nice if the Ultra had that too. Still no luck with my watch not charging to 100%.

They just need to fix this damn bug. My SE2 still won’t do it and like others here has only done the 80% thing ONE time literally before giving up and doing 100% every. Night. Since. 10.1 hasn’t helped.

I too have the same problem, WatchOS 10 has reduced my battery health percentage by 4 points, so I would like to enforce the charging to 80% only on my S7 to extend it's life. But charging with optimized charging seems to be erratic and doesn't do what I want it to do. So I guess I will charge it manually before bed to 80% until charging is more predictable.

Still no luck with optimized charge limit so based on my personal experience and the posts here it seems it is still not working. Disappointing.

I suggest you contact Apple ... and as I posted, it was working for me but only with the effect that it drained to 10% with my usage pattern

I contacted Apple Support and they just had me reboot my watch and toggle Optimized Charge Limit off and back on and told me to give it a few more weeks. We will see.

They won’t fix it until all our batteries are prematurely aged. I am on 10.1.1 now and it STILL doesn’t work!! What are the chances the watchOS team is somehow NOT noticing that this feature is completely broken?

I was very excited for this feature as I read a lot about it with the launch of Apple Watch Ultra last year and so I get the Apple Watch Ultra 2 this year and it is as if the feature does not exist. I am hoping that, with 10.1.1 just releasing, it just means another learning cycle is needed and it will start working again. Apple Support was little help because all they could do is tell me what I already read in the support article. They did run diagnostics and confirm all hardware was working, but the other stuff they had me do I could have done on my own.

I never go to sleep at same time or wakeup at same time so I don't know how it would work if I turn it on and charge my watch at night.

I have my watch on all the time as I use it for sleep tracking, but I always charge it right before bed so my charging time is fairly consistent. Has not seemed to matter. Also, for optimized charge limit, apple support says "Optimized Charge Limit changes dynamically depending on how you use your Apple Watch. Based on your usage patterns, your watch might charge to 100% on some days, and less on others." so it should be driven more by your usage and not your charging pattern. Who knows?
