I actually modified my order after a bit of reflection and reading. I now have upgraded to an i7 too, ha. I do photo editing, but nothing too crazy, however, I do a decent amount of FCP 1080p film editing, and that will likely soon become 4k, so it seemed worth the paltry increase in money for a 6-8 year machine. (I've been using a 21" iMac since 2011).

27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display
• 4.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.5GHz
• 16GB 2400MHz DDR4
• 3TB Fusion Drive
• Radeon Pro 580 with 8GB video memory

Now delivering one day later, so Jun 17 - Jun 21 (Ships: 4–6 business days). Probably arriving the same as my original order would have.

Yea. It's tough sometimes ordering a new machine. All the excitement and such. Still IMO the $200 is worth it for the i7. It's not like you're ordering a MBP and battery life is important. :apple:

I had a pretty good ETA originally, then I noticed they had a new magic keyboard (with the 10-key this time).

Getting them to make the change killed my ETA. It's basically considered a cancel and a new order.

lol, Im reading this thread and I could not figure out where the buy button was. Then it dawned on me this thread is for the non Pro iMac version.

Hey guys. I am still trying to decide where I should buy the latest iMac from.

Does anyone of you in the United States know when will the B&H have stock in the latest iMac? so I can get it for tax-free.

Thanks!

Good question. I didn't a quick Google search from the original 2014 Retina iMac release and it seemed b&h had the iMacs on their website for order 4 days after shipping started from Apple. You might see them pop up this weekend but maybe someone else knows better than I. I got my iMac from b&h back in 2014.

Mine says it should be here tomorrow. Does that sound right? Anyone else getting there’s tomorrow?

Yes, but are you going to get 2 sets of this? hardly worth just for 16.

B & H has a good bit of it in different sizes. Just search there on sodimm 2400. Free ship and no tax.

Thanks!

Just ordered my new iMac 27" 5k, shipping June 14-16 to Portland, Oregon

• 4.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.5GHz
• 16GB 2400MHz DDR4
• 3TB Fusion Drive
• Radeon Pro 580 with 8GB video memory

I was going to upgrade the ram myself from 8gb, but when I looked online, Apple notes it is 204 pin RAM...and no one seems to have 2400MHz DDR4 in 204 pin. So, I'll go with 16gb for now and upgrade later. If anyone knows where the 204 pin stuff is, let me know!

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201191

Looks like I will be retiring my 2009 iMac. She's had a good run.

I confirmed with Apple support that utilizing the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, I will be able to use my 2012 iMac as a second display.

We're getting the exact same config, very cool. I'm shocked yours is shipping so early. I guess apple is slow to ship to NYC.

Just ordered mine to update my mid 2011 27".... I think I will be in for a surprise!

  • 3.5GHz QC I5, TB up to 4.1GHz
  • 8GB 2400MHz DDR4 - 2x4GB
  • 1TB FUSION DRIVE (32GB FLASH)
  • AMD Radeon Pro 575 w/4GB VRAM
  • Apple Magic Mouse 2-ZA
  • MAGIC KYBD NUM KEYPAD
I'll chuck 2x16GB sticks in it in a month or so and an external SSD to boot from.

Plus I thought id sneak in a 42mm Black Aluminium series 2 watch. Should have everything June 9th here in little old NZ, but I am getting conflicting dates from my order page and the online help desk.

My order seen attached. I ordered 16gb since I will upgrade RAM only 1 year later but I still need a good functioning Imac now. Hopefully I can have 48GB by then (16x2 + 8x2). FYI, I ordered from Hong Kong. Full cost is HK$23,808 (Educational price).

DDR4 is SO-DIMM 260pin, DDR3 is 204pin. I think they just messed this up on the support page.

Taking your word for it Maetzle...I cancelled and reordered (same delivery dates) but this time with 8gb of RAM. Ordered some RAM from amazon, 32gb (16x2)

That's a hell of a thing to mess up...noting an incorrect component!

I order mine 24hr ago. Status still processing items. My only changes was the trackpad 2 instead of the Magic Mouse 2. Don't make sense if this upgrade cause any delay.

I have quite a few Amazon gift vouchers so would prefer to order through Amazon.co.uk

Any ideas how long it will be before the new iMacs start appearing on Amazon?

In the manual it states the correct SO DIMM:
https://help.apple.com/imac/mid-2017/#/apde7d36b188

But in the manual they use the wrong PC4. Should say 19200 and not 2400.

Maybe they wanna confuse customers to get them to upgrade their Macs through Apple. ^^

Thanks for your screen shot as it states definitely that the 16GB choice would give 2x8 instead of the scam of 4x4 which Apple used to do. For some reasons this information is not available until the order is placed. I may go the same route as yours, putting in 16x2 at a later date but still want the Mac to come with a functional pair which I can use instead of binning straight away.

I may go the Imac route. Also with the video card. Will you able to play games. I will load windows on an external HDD with bootcamp. Not a heavy game player. I am average player. I will not be buying this year until next year. Also I may jus sale my 4k monitor when I buy the Imac. Will see what happens next year as off now my current workstation is my MacBook pro 2013.

Just pulled the trigger on the new 27"
ETA Jun 15-19
  • 4.2 GHz Core i7
  • Radeon Pro 580
  • 16 GB RAM
  • 512 GB HD
  • Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad
  • Magic Trackpad 2
  • Magic Mouse 2
I'm coming from a Late 2013 iMac so I'm really looking forward to the Retina upgrade!

Me too-Getting the same as yours (except I went with a 8gb RAM, and will use third party RAM to upgrade to 32gb). I am on a late 2012 iMac, so really looking forward to retina. I plan to use my 2012 iMac as a second display....we will see how long that lasts with the retina vs non-retina next to each other ;)
