My 11” departed ANC almost 24 hours ago. Still hasn’t landed. Maybe it’s in a holding pattern somewhere :)
I’m pretty sure they’ve landed and just haven’t been scanned. Mine is on the same plane.

Pencil has been in Louisville for a couple days now. 12.9 IPP and ASK departed Alaska at 3:04 pm today :p:D so excited for Wednesday!

I have a 5 year old iPad Air that I love. This is such a nice upgrade for me :D

My theory on this is that your tracking number is associate to a pallet (spelling?) and we get our tracking numbers once a serial number is actually assigned to us. This helps with customs clearance and any other delays. That way, if a pallet (again, spelling?) has a delay, you can be assigned to another pallet in the grouping to ensure same delivery date without alarming a customer.

While this may be very far off, I think there is a very logical reason as to why they dont display shipped right away otherwise they would do it.
As someone who works pretty closely with the supply chain org in my company, this seems totally plausible to me.

Something wrong here I ordered on 10/30/2018 my account charged the Apple site say prepare for shipping since 11/2/2018 still PFS called Apple to cancel told me it shipped I said buy it say PFS her answer was in our side it say shipped

I think it has more to do with 'one day shipping.' If they say it shipped on Saturday then everyone wonders why it wasn't there on Sunday or Monday. We've all probably seen the online meltdowns "well then if you say it's one day I should get it in one day now give me a credit" or some such nonsense.

We have a device assigned and addressed to us right from the location it's manufactured. That's Apple's supply chain genius at work. They don't ship it to an Apple warehouse in the country of destination and then package it for delivery to you. They minimize handling right at the beginning. We know this because the moment a label is created for delivery to us in China we can see it immediately on a shipping website.

We'll all probably see emails late tonight/early a.m. that our devices have shipped because we'll be in that one day window starting tomorrow.

This sounds logical. However, before my iPad left Asia I received my AppleCare confirmation email, which contains the serial number. There may be some truth to your explaination, but it may not be what triggers the “Shipped” status change.

Yeah I am thinking this is similar to a classic cross dock situation. A pallet label is associated with X number of cartons, each with their own carrier label. The cartons are palletized in China, shipped by the pallet (the pallet/UCC128 scan updates each carton-level status), then once in Louisville the pallet is broken down, and moved cross-dock to their respective destinations.

I could be wrong, but I’ve made a lot of pre-order Apple purchases and I don’t recall seeing 1-day shipping. For pre-orders it typically just says the date of delivery. My order confirmation email for this iPad says “Delivers: Wed, Nov 7 by Standard Delivery.”

To find more detailed information, regarding where your package is RIGHT NOW... use your UPS Tracking Number on the following website: https://www.packagemapping.com -- You can also use other reference numbers: order number, or phone number on file with the shipper

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Good catch. I always remember seeing overnight delivery but it was understood that 'overnight' meant from when it was shipped, not ordered. You're right that it just says Free Delivery now with a date. I still think they hold off on alerting it's shipped until the day before it arrives to avoid people believing it's just a day or two away.

Could be. Could also be that if Apple changed the status and gave out tracking numbers when the products actually shipped, they would get too many phone calls with concerned folks complaining that their iPad has been sitting in Hong Kong for 2 days without any movement, or their pencil has been sitting in Louisville for 3 days when it could have been delivered by now. Eh...who knows.

Yeah who knows how they determine it. Even though I got my shipping notice early a.m. on 9/20 for my phone it still didn't leave Louisville until 2 a.m. on the 21st. I'm in Denver so it was a short flight. The email did sort of coincide with the import scan in Louisville though... hmmmmm

Yeesh we know waaaaaay too much about this process to not be getting paid.

My iPad pro is still showing as preparing for shipment, but I was able to go to ups.com and search by reference number (my phone number) and found out it shipped from Shenzhen, China on 11/2, departed Anchorage, AK this afternoon at 3:04pm.

Looks like my Apple pencil came from Nanjing, China on 11/1 and arrived in Kentucky on 11/3.

Missouri, USA here. My 12.9” 256GB and Pencil are in Louisville, but my keyboard folio is still showing in Chep Lap Kok, Hong Kong.

I’ve been an Apple customer with a LOT of devices over the years but this is the first time I’ve ordered something for release day. I’m excited! In my excitement, I failed to consider that there’s a 50/50 chance nobody will be home to sign for my shipment. My past delivery range is 10am-5pm with UPS and I won’t be able to get home until around 1pm on Wednesday.

Any advice? There is a UPS store in town but I’ve heard mixed reviews about changing my delivery location. Roll the dice at home or try to get it delivered to the store?

Keyboard left Anchorage 11/5 3/13pm
iPad left Anchorage 11/4 8:09pm
Pencil Louisville since 11/2

Do you have UPS MyChoice? Most of the time you can specify a 2-hour delivery window. I’m not sure if the UPS Store counts for holding at a UPS location, and the only other delivery location change I’ve seen available says it has to be walking distance/next door to the original address.

Doesn’t Apple still let you pre-sign, and printout the page and put it on your door?

You can, but it’s ultimately up to the driver if they’ll leave the package. It’s not binding.

Sign up for MyChoice if you haven’t already, and have it delivered to the store. In my experience, it looks very scary when you do it, but if you do it today, you’ll be fine, no delay in delivery.

You are assigned your iPad from a factory in China, the tracking info is different than it used to be to prevent thousands and thousands of calls to Apple and UPS about shipping.

I would suggest, leave it alone. If you aren’t home for the first delivery, THEN have them hold it at the store.
