Just installed the beta on an external drive without logging in to iCloud or anything.

Oh my god. Has nobody mentioned the Spotlight Search? Absolutely terrible. Big blank bar in the center of the screen? Really?

And how did it manage to find webpages right off the bat before I even opened Safari & I didn't log in to any of Apples systems?

Uh, because it just opened it in a webkit layer?

I prefer it on the centre and I think it's one of the greatest features in Yosemite.

I tend to agree, but I'm not a fan of how large the initial Spotlight box. It's kinda big, kinda ugly being so big. I like where it is, I like the look, and I understand why it is as big as it is, but I wish it was kinda smaller, sleeker...

Well, it's the first beta. Let's wait and see how it develops.

Dictation languages

iOS 8 dictation will support 24 new languages. Can any one check whether Yosemite will also increase the languages supported in dictation from the 8 supported in Mavericks? Thanks!

Some 3rd party apps have a blurred title bar. The one in the picture is called Wallpaper Wizard. I don't think it was updated for Yosemite or anything.

I dont think the small stuff get added in the first DP (wallpapers, system sounds, screensavers).

From what I can tell from past OS X releases (except Mavericks) wallpapers don't get added til the last DP or even GM. However don't sure if that's the case with system sounds or screen savers.

From what I remember new screen savers are added fairly early in the process (Mac OS X Tiger, OS X Lion). But you're right about desktop pictures. The only recent reference to new system sounds is iOS 7. New sounds there didn't arrive until the very last moment.

Dashboard returns if selected in Mission Control, system preferences as 'as space'. Same swipe to left motion.

weird finder networking

In finder sidebar I see my macbook listed 4 times, and none of the printers, linux pc's or windows pc's appear? anyone else having this issue?

Lion was never *marketed* as 10.7, just as Yosemite isn't *marketed* as 10.10.

Apple have answered this.
OS X is the product name. We are all using OS X. And the version of it we are all using is version 10.9 or 10.10. Just like any App you have a product/app name and a version number. OS X is not the brand, it's just the product/app name.

So the next major OS could "OS XI" or "OS Whatever". That doesn't matter the name of it. The version will be 11.0.0 irrespective of the name.

You could call it OS X version 10.0 and not 10.10.0 as OS X is really a different product when compared to the classic OSes 1-9. But I think Apple left the initial 10 there so they can have the 1983-2014 attached to it.

I don't know if someone already posted this here, but this is what shows up when you click on "About This Mac"

It sort of has to, much as iOS 7 saw a lot of fleshing out in developer previews.

Sorry to say but barely anything changed for iOS 7 between DP1 and GM. Especially things that really needed a change.
