New GetInfo window, new filesystem, drop support for x86 apps and make it completely 64 bit only.
I don't think we would get very far with our work, if we didn't have x86 support.. :p

Personally:
• Siri
• Zoom function as default for the green button
• iTunes 11. Lets have a seperate syncing app again, and make Apple Music seperate.
• A fix for sleep issues, ink. sleeping Firewire drives again (Gone since Lion!).
• Better networking support in Finder. It just keeps ****ing up.
• All the features in 10.11 Spotlight working outside of a few countries.

Please Apple, pretty, pretty please, give me the option to scale the system font. I'd really love to use my 4K TV as a monitor and be able to actually see the menu/system bar text.

On that note, I'd like a font size about three times bigger in the Mac App Store, the iTunes Store and the iBook Store.

A bigger font in Mail. Even though I can customise, I still get small fonts sent to me in emails.

Also, video previews in the Mac App Store.

The option to demo software in the Mac App Store. There's so much stuff I might potentially buy, but don't, because I can't demo it.

Touch ID supported.

Bring back colour highlights for folders!

Why oh why did you remove this, Apple?!?!?

Automatic sorting of categories in Launchpad.

Quicklook for EVERY SINGLE TYPE OF FILE.

The ability to search for text in the content of every single document. It's so incomplete at the moment.

I can't think of any features Im afraid. What id really like would be a Snow El Capitan.

A maintenance release on the maintenance release. There are still a bunch of things not working so well.

What about fixed network code? Sharing drives over the network on our systems in the studio is the worst that its ever been. Since Leopard. Permissions related to some degree. Lots of various problems with many of our macs hanging on power down as well

Oh, and a resizable disk utility window FFS. Cant see the names if you have large icons in the sidebar. Did anyone properly test the thing.

Lol, anyways.

Return colour label functionality
Smoother progress bars
Im sick of blue folders- lets get a different colour system working

EDIT:

Oh, and any visual and usability tweaks that would get me exited by OS X again.

I know this thread was started a long time ago, but it's still getting a few posts, so...

1. A simple checkbox in Preferences: "Show mounted volumes in dock."

2. An option to bring back the MacOS 9 finder sounds. Hey, I understand they're not everyone's cup of tea, but I liked them. (Like, if you were scrolling down a menu, each item would make a tiny little "tink" sound as you passed it.)

Here's what I want for 10.12: I want it to arrive a year late (and that's no joke) or otherwise a 2016 release with no new features, just bug fixes and polishes.

I think Apple's OS X software quality has really diminished since 10.6 was released. Apple should move back to slower bi-annual desktop updates in my opinion.

What's good for iOS (annual releases in line with annual HW updates) doesn't have to be good for OS X.

I have discussed this before: OS X 10.10 codenamed Syrah (merged)

The following blog entry reminded me of my 2013 post: http://inessential.com/2015/12/06/low-hanging_fruit

Really worth reading. I think this blog entry points to important annoyances that I used to associate with Windows in the past. That's unfortunate. I also hope Apple isn't spreading itself too thin with OS releases lately...

WatchOS
iOS iPhone
iOS iPad (more and more changes needed for devices like the iPad Pro, no longer a close sibling to iOS for iPhone)
Apple TVOS
CarPlay (could become a full OS one day if Apple is indeed working on a car)
OS X

PS: It's not just the OS. The app stores need major improvements (trial versions etc.) as well: http://toucharcade.com/2015/12/07/apple-tv-app-store-games-making-100-dollars-a-day/

OK, after hackintoshing my PC for a while... number 1 request:

OpenGL performance that isn't complete garbage compared to the same hardware under Windows (like, 30% slower by my estimations - GTX760 card under both OS X and Windows). The Mac is becoming more popular again, and gaming is a big thing for computers in general. The hardware is far more capable than OS X enables it to be for gaming.

Sure Apple is trying to push people to Metal which will help, but there's a huge library of software out there running OpenGL, and OpenGL is cross platform.

These things are never going to happen but:

*Support for older machines (MacBook white early 2008) (Never ever going to happen)
*New / better version to iWeb
*Options to install what you want (Don't want GameCenter? Uncheck it!)
*INTRO VIDEO
*Advanced security
*A built in app to see who's on your WiFi
*Kill Dashboard completely
*A selection of beautiful wallpapers as we had with Leopard (10.5) and Snow Leopard (10.6)
*New Screensavers
*Better Xcode (like we had when Lion was released) (Xcode 4)
*Siri
*Dark Mode (that it'd change everything to dark, not like it is now that half of the icons disappear)
*New Quicktime (similar to VLC)
*iTunes to sync with Android phones as well
*Kill Safari and replace it with a new web browser that would have themes and more plugins and more multitask features
*More options for a regular mouse
*More custom themes on your Mac (http://img09.deviantart.net/0df5/i/2011/264/b/9/tron_mac_theme_by_fleek968-d4ajd5b.png) for example and so on
*Instead of Dashboard widgets would go on a desktop
*Battery saver mode (kill all the heavy stuff and if you choose battery saver mode you'd be able to surf the web and write text documents and do light stuff. Also Safari (or the new browser) would kill of themes automatically and be in a "Energy save mode) as well.

Stop releasing new OS every year and do it like before. Leopard and Snow Leopard had 2 years difference.

More support for the OS (longer security updates and so on).
Come out with stuff, when something is really changed and not with minor upgrades.

Why? You don't have to use it, do you? I use it and I'm not the only one. It's disabled by default. Still not good enough? I don't use Safari. Apple, kill Safari completely!

Seriously: I'd like to see options.
– option to increase font size system-wide, in Mail left panel, in Calendar
– option to switch Dock to 3D
– option to have coloured thumbnails in Finder sidebar
– option to put folders on top
– option to change "green light" zoom/full screen behaviour
– option to safely uninstall bloatware and restore it if needed (i.e. Photos)
– plus fixes for all the issues El Capitan has.

I don't need any new features. I need the current features to work as intended.

I used to use Dashboard, but there aren't many widgets anymore and lots of the links on Apple's website are dead. Why keep it if it's dead?
Safari is great, but it needs improvement. Lately I've been thinking on switching back on Windows.

I forgot the option switching the dock back to 3D. I'd like to see it too.

So did Lion and SL, but Lion was the worst OS X release to date.
I disagree.
I looked at the old reviews from Leopard and people said it's the worst release to date, even though Leopard was the first Mac OS X I have ever used and I loved it.
I loved Lion as well and never had problems with it. I don't see why it was the worst release to date.

Since it's all about marketing nowadays and there is now a 10 from a very big competitor, we maybe might never see anything called OS X 10.12.

But my wish is: not just change the name to anything eleven-related (or whatever) because of that reason.

After 16 years it's time for a real new MAJOR version and not just implementing minor changes and new background pictures in what they call major versions since many years.

Okay, there is something really new in 10.11, that doesn't have just a new icon, font or minor whatever change. It's an application that the majority of Mac Users might never ever have used and people who really need it often may wonder why, if there are so many other things and stock applications, they only chose this one to make it completely new and "better" o_O:

Siri for Mac (pressing and holding Fn key, with typing support for no-voice option)

Focus mode (blurs and/or dims space around foremost app)

Improved Dark mode which actually darkens window chrome, buttons

All default Mac apps rewritten in Swift

New Control Center on left side of screen which replaces Apple Menu and relocates some menubar icons like Bluetooth, Volume and Time Machine Bartender style, as well as housing all Notification Center widgets

Clipboard history in Control Center to retrieve text, images or any recently copied file with ease

Simplified UI for Notification Centre, simply showing Notifications like iOS

A dedicated Music app for Mac for Apple Music, iTunes discontinued but remains an option

The News app comes to OS X, syncs content and reading position with iDevices

iSync app for handling all iDevices, Watches and general syncing including between other Macs

3D dock option returns in Appearance Settings, remains frosted/flat but reinstates some depth to UI

Generally refreshed icons across the OS, making them more detailed and rich/deep in colour while still flat (feature parity with iOS 10)

Fl.ux like feature which optimises display at sunset/nighttime so it's less stark, bad for eyes (feature parity with iOS 10)

More control over Do Not Disturb scheduling (feature parity with iOS 10)

Ability to Snooze Mails and Messages to deal with later (feature parity with iOS 10)

Messages app updated to include live previews of content like webpages, large emojis (feature parity with iOS 10)

Per-contact read receipts in Messages (feature parity with iOS 10)

Voicemail for FaceTime (feature parity with iOS 10)

iCloud Backup for Mac for those with paid storage tiers, granular control of what is backed up

Wider iCloud Drive support, ability to choose folders and files to mirror in iCloud Drive for access on other devices

Force Touch support in Launchpad for shortcuts on icons, like iOS home screen

See my iOS 10 wishlist post.

Can icons even get more "rich/deep in colour"? They look as if rainbow threw up all over them (in my humble opinion).
I meant a richer and deeper as in less garish/rainbow like.

More rich in detail while still being flat, and with darker/deeper colours. Hard to explain but I mean a bit more of a marriage between the flat look and the old icons in colour.

I'd make all the icons slightly more detailed on iOS at least, and darker/duller on both platforms. Duller not being truly dull, just not as rainbow like.

Ah, so less of Ive's pastel gradients. Yeah, I would like that. The problem is that apparently it has been psychologically proven that those bright colours are considered most attractive by people (I have no source for that, I read it half a year ago or so) and therefore they are here to stay... until the next fad comes.
