....and people laugh at me when I say I always wait until the .2 or .3 release to upgrade my version of OS X

This seems to be caused by a corrupt legacy plist file.

Is anyone having this problem with a fresh install?

I later used ONYX 2.9 which discovered that the sharing plist was damaged.

"/Library/com.apple.preferences.sharing.plist"

I deleted the plist and enabled all of the "Services" under "Sharing" in the OS X Control Panel.

So far that seems to have fixed the problem. Still testing.

Note: I did not need to use any of the other solutions in this thread.

Please let us know if this holds...

I have updated Titanium's software, ran Onyx, same result, deleted p-file...

Let the waiting begin...

"/Library/com.apple.preferences.sharing.plist"

Do you know exactly which file you mean? This isn't a location where preferences would be. I'm not finding a com.apple.preferences.sharing.plist on any Mac running 10.10.

This is caused by your computer seeing a ghost of itself on your network. You can make it stop by turning off Wake for Network Access in the Energy Saver pref pane. Once off, rename your machine to finish.

This worked for me. Been over a week now with multiple backups and it's still working!!

Yes, I have this problem with a fresh install.

I have "fixed" it with disable 'Wake for network access'

Its in the root /Library not the user ~/Library.

I still have that setting on.

Its not "fixed" unless you can run everything normally.

I only ran Onyx to find the bad preference file, nothing else... under Verifying > Preferences. This is not part of the automated Onyx routine. So just running Onyx will not help.

I didn't update Titanium software.

I left Wake for Network Access On. I have Wifi running 2.4 and 5 Ghz channels too.

I didn't use any fix on this thread.

Yes, but plists do not go into the root of /Library. The computers I have do not have any file with that name anywhere.

Sorry...

almost 10 days later, this is still holding for me (the problem hasn't re-occurred once yet)...

The problem isn't the Energy Saver. you get the same result by turning off all of the services in the Sharing control panel (screen sharing, file sharing, etc,.)

The services are the problem.

I don't have that file on either machine which renames itself. I suspect this is just a temporary, coincidental fix like all the others.

Rebooted everything then changed name again in Sharing. Now this morning its holding the change in Develop menu and Terminal. Waiting to see...

Doing everything possible to make this problem go away. I got a 36 hour reprive by deleting the aforementioned plist files.

The only way I've found to make the change permanent is to power off the computer, and never turn it on again!

Sorry...

Onyx must be version 2.9.0 to run on Yosemite. The Mavericks version will not even run on Yosemite... How did you run Onyx without updating it?

Are you on Mavericks studntx?

The only solution that worked for now, was disabling all the services in the "Sharing" pane of Preferences.

This might be the reason, why my MacBook Air did not experience any problems. None of these services were enabled.
On my iMac Sharing Printers was enabled.

Sadly, that wasn't a permeant fix for me. It seems no matter what I do it comes back. Seriously considering going back to Mavericks.

The minute I wrote this posting, the (2) came back.
What a total failure.
In future releases, I will not be an early adopter...

I just noticed an Edit Button in Sharing preference: Computers on your local network can access your computer at username iMac-3.local ( have not had the nerve to try it yet though )

Now the (2) has changed to (3) on my system.

What worked for me was turning off wake for network access under Energy Saver in System Preferences.

Then I edited that field and removed the numbers and such. Everything has been fine since I did that a couple of weeks ago. Before I had about 5 or 6 MacBook Pro (2), or (3) etc... Showing in Finder.
