Has anyone loaded Yosemite or Mavericks onto a 17" iMac 4,1 w/Radeon X1600? Was it acceptable or did the lack of OpenGL acceleration effectively make the system useless for everything but basic tasks (browsing, etc)?

I don't expect to be playing modern games or using photoshop, even if acceleration was working, but I really need QE / OpenGL Acceleration to be working on this system.

For now I guess I'm going to install ML, but if anyone has had good experiences with Yosemite or Mavericks on a C2D mac with a Radeon, let me know.

Thanks!

We tried Yosemite and Mavericks with your Model. It actually worked reasonably well considering the lack of OpenGL Acceleration. It can run most of the basic tasks except Maps, iMovie, and some video formats in Quicktime/Safari. The final update for OSXH will include a script to disable unnecessary animations that could make your Mac unresponsive.
If graphical glitches are a problem for you. I would suggest you use Wayne's MacPostFactor or MLPostFactor for Mountain Lion.

Yeah that's probably going to be what I do, until someday if someone finds a way to get OGL Acceleration working (not that I would fault anyone if it never happened; even getting 10.9/10.10 to boot on systems this old borders on miraculous as is...)

TMRJIJ - in your recent posts about OSXH you mention "OpenGL patches" - does this mean that your team is working on adding OpenGL acceleration, or has OpenGL Acceleration been written off for cards as old as the X1600, due to the new OpenGL framework in 10.9/10.10?

The audio next is in the patch files folder in your applications. You can use the Kexts utility to install it.

Yes, we are looking into graphics acceleration. We are releasing the beta frameworks privately to developers to test it and help work out the issues we have. It is also an available option in MCPF.

How to get graphics working?

Does anyone know how to get the graphics working on my 24 in late 2006 iMac? The graphics card is a 7300gt.

Normal System Updates will likely read the default PlatformSupport.plist leaving your Mac unable to boot. To install the update

1. Download Latest Combo Update (10.10.2): http://swcdn.apple.com/content/down...o3ngbrowjwncdhet8ssiim/OSXUpdCombo10.10.2.pkg

2. Delete the PlatformSupport.plist as stated in post 1.

Hi,

Probably a dumb question. How do you delete the PlatformSupport.plist from the pkg ? Pacifist does not allow it.
Also, it seems that 10.10.2 kills SFOTT installation, is it worth removing the Boot.efi file included in the pkg too ?

Thanks

Hi,

You must remove the PlatformSupport.plist from your Mac after the installation finishes. You should not need make those changes to the pkg. As for SFOTT, we will contact Oem about this issue. I don't know exactly how his patch works when involving Software Updates.

Ati Radeon X1600 support for Yosemite?

Hello,

Your model is supported for our guide. The kexts are in the latest Yosemite only Patch Files and OSXH update in post 1. It won't have Graphics Acceleration yet.

Hi,

We would like to express our sincere apologizes for the inactive server errors that occurred today causing hundreds of users to not have access to the OSXH patches. We will work on this issue throughout the entire weekend.

Sorry

Update: We have changed hosting providers. Downloads may be slow for a while.

Thanks for the directions. Actually, I did not need to remove the PlatformSupport.List. Installation went smoothly. The only change needed was to put the right Pike's boot.efi in their folders again, went well thanks to PeterHolbrook's post.

Finally, 10.10.2 overwrites the Graphic Kexts (it seems), also there, I needed to put the corrected ones back in /Library/Extensions.

Stuck on black screen with apple logo

Hi all, I really hope someone can help me with this. I'm sure I am late on this thread, but I only got around to do this now, so I count on your kindness and help to give a hand.

I created the Yosemite flash Drive using SFOTT and it seems to be working fine, but when I try to boot from it I got stuck for a minute in a black screen with the white Apple logo, and when the loading bar appears and starts to load some text runs on my screen for a second and then the Mac reboots. It is a 2.1 MacPro, with SFOTT for Maverick installed on it, and with the Mavericks mode just runs flawlessly.

I don't know what to do, and I never arranged kernel extensions before, so I'm really stuck. I need Yosemite for work because I use Pro Tools and now I'm unable to even attend my clients. Anyway, any help will be very much appreciated, from the bottom of my heart! Thank you in advance!

Sleep or Hibernate

Good day I wonder if someone has already managed to make the Yosemite go back and forth a hibernation totalmete erasing the screen and the external mace and opening the cover waking him or pressing the button? Thought is that changing the kext the power manager do not get results?

 Which version of Pro Tools? The latest (11.3.1) runs on 10.8, 10.9 and 10.10. You don't need Yosemite to run Pro Tools 11 (assuming it's the version you're using). I'm using PT11 right now with Mavericks 10.9.5 - which works even better with PT than Yosemite fwiw. I'm not telling you shouldn't upgrade, but it's certainly not a requirement.

Hi.

I tried and failed multiple times to use SFOTT with a MacBookAir1,1 to no avail. If you complete the process manually using the guide and tools available in the first post of this thread, you'll be able to boot the installer and get the Air running Yosemite.

One thing I should point out though... if you do install Yosemite onto a MacBookAir1,1, it will be useless for streaming video. This may change if OSXH and MPF are able to patch OpenGL/CL support for older GPUs. It will be perfectly capable of doing everything else though.

I put a SSD into it and it runs almost as fast as my MBP for general usage and even Photoshop CS6.

To all developers and awesome members subscribed to this thread:

Yes, we are aware that some people are still having issues with downloading OSXH patches or using the site. We hope this issue gets fixed soon but our new hosting provider has issues with our code right now.

We are looking for people who are willing to test and work on the OpenGL.framework patches. It will be available in the next update.

To any developers with OS X 10.10.3, we want your input on how the Photos app is working on your macs. Hopefully it'll work great on all models.

OSXH v1.2

Here is the new OSXH update v1.2 Beta 1. It is for Developers and people who can diagnose their Macs if something goes wrong.

The update will include:
  • OpenGL Beta Patches for Developers Only (You have been warned if you decide to use these).
  • Users can now choose which version of OS X they want patches for (Yosemite or Mavericks)
  • Supports French Language.
  • Now better detects whether your Mac meets the requirements as stated in Post 1.

Coming soon in the next Build(s):
  • Mountain Lion Patch
  • LeopardAssist for 10.5
  • BootCamp Patch for Windows 8

Developer Focus Areas:
  • Photos for Mac if installing 10.10.3
  • OpenGL Framework
  • MacPostFactor Bug Fixes since apparently Wayne is done.

When this is done testing, it might be the last significant update to this manual OSXH installer. We are working on an alternative to MacPostFactor that will allow OS X 10.9, 10.10, and soon 10.11 installation for all models.
